Towerborne is a nice arcade-style game that fulfilled a niche for me.
It is a reasonable fun game where you get to play in a 2D side scroller. In this world, the biggest feature is a tower that serves as the center piece of society, and the world.
The game a has a lot going for it.
A nice world where the world is kinda pretty and yet, possess stylish graphics. Music serves as a superb backdrop for immersion in the world.
Character customization is quite spectacularly detailed. I was blown away by the varied choices there are. Skin tones are varied. Different hairstyles that seem to cover people’s tastes across vairous groups of differing society. Plus, I get to dye my hair various colours.
The class system are very different and have their own traits. There is very little overlap, and each are very intuitive, a very good thing as it shows that developers have put enormous amount of thought.
Game seemingly avoided the pitfalls of a live service games, at least that is wah the vibe wa slike. It feels like, there is already loads of content to enjoy and play in.
Music is beatufiul. It has a nice soulful, and relaxing tone to it. And it really has a feeling of being soothing, and a festive mood, that kept the positivity flowing. And It really my experience t be acomfortable and fun mood, that really wanted me to do more. Lots of respect to them.
tization is expected for a free game. It has micro-transactions where the in-game store sells cosmetics in exchange for real-life money. This method is perfectly fine for a free-to-play game. I would even be more willing to pay for items if they gave massive boosts, super upgrades to weapons, shields, and buffs, even if permanent.
Since the game is still in early access, are there places that need improvement?
In my humble opinion, there are some things I could change for the better.
Tutorial feels a bit barebones, and could be improved for players.
There could be voice acting for some of the content, as it would help with making the world feel richer and more fulfilling.
Overall, I feel like they could expand some of the content a little more.
A few other words.
Stoic, the developer, produced a very good game, and it brings back memories of 2D slider games I’ve played, sucha s Adventure Quest I’ve played years ago. It was a fun time and I appreciate the experience.
Eventually, the game will be free, and I am glad I’ve contributed to its success when I paid money, the $25 supporter pack. The game will be a success when it comes to consoles in the 1.0 version.
I had played the game and while on gamepass, before a data wipe in April 2025. Even though it is on gamepass, the saves do not cross over. That is a bummer since it is published by Xbox Game Studios. In the end, I do hope the final game is an amazing experience.
I paid for the game, so that the price can go free eventually, and you the reader now can play a perfect game.
In the end, here is my verdict:
Score 90%.
Recommendation: yes.
Achievements: no in early access. After 1.0 release, yes
Replay value: yes There is some repay value if you choose different class

A fun co-op beat'em up with polished gameplay and an easygoing gameplay loop. The menus are a little cumbersome, especially when trying to upgrade/dismantle gear, the map is more confusing than it needs to be; and I would like to see more classes unlock; but overall I've enjoyed putting time into this and look forward to the full release.

I like the game and it can be fun but that lack of UltraWide support is annoying!
