I really enjoyed this remake. I never got to play the original, but I did know of the original and really wanted to play it because "wooaahhhhh FMV?? it's like the graphics are REAL PEOPLE!!!". From what I can see, this remake was faithful to the original while improving on it. The characters are lively (a little over the top but it's a flavour choice). The puzzles are satisfying and make you think, but not frustrating. It looks like the puzzles aren't 1-to-1 with the original, but all essentially an homage to the originals with their own VR flavour, which is the best way to do a remake. The atmosphere was really great too. The house isn't "scary" but there are definitely some areas that creeped me out, like the room with the dolls. Also, arachnophobia warning for a couple of the rooms. And I never thought I would be so hesitant to put my hand into some murky water in VR. It was very immersive. I almost embarrassed myself by sitting on a "bed" while reading a puzzle clue (I remembered I was in VR before I sat!!). The controls felt really solid, too. I never felt like I was fumbling to pick things up.
The only real knock is that there were some gamestopper bugs. On the very first gate, I retrieved the key and tried to put it in the lock and it kinda hung in mid air, wiggling a bit but not sliding into the lock. I couldn't pick it up or turn it, and I was like "Am I dumb? What's the puzzle here?" I even blew a hint coin I think and the game was like "Put the key in the lock dumb***". I finally restarted the game and it worked as you would expect. I had a few other puzzles that were a bit buggy and I ended up using autosolve to skip them because I knew WHAT to do, the game just wouldn't let me DO it. That meant I did miss the "solve all puzzles without using autosolve coins" achievement, though...

I have played many VR puzzle games. This is without a doubt my second favorite, second only two humanity. The environment, the Art Deco architecture, the spooky environment, the top-notch, acting and music. And the serious board game clue vibes. Just absolutely love this game worth every penny.

Again, I wish steam had a neutral review, because this game has really great things going for it, but it also has a lot of issues, which are so frustrating it ruins it entirely.
The idea and execution of the game is broadly fantastic, and the puzzles are great. They really vary in difficulty, but are not impossible. The hint system is a nice addition. The story and character animation is extremely done well and engaging. So there's a lot to like, and it's definitely one of the better escape rooms.
BUT there are many bugs. You often get pushed around by the game when stationary, presumably some sort of object collision control, though it goes too far and you often have to hold down forward stick to remain motionless. Or, just reach out of bounds of your play space constantly. Puzzles are often just out of reach. Placing objects is often finicky and difficult, and I found at least one puzzle that would reset itself for no reason, even if the solution was correct. If the fundamental interactivity were solved, it would be an outstanding game instead of a sometimes frustrating one.
The ending. Abysmal. Ruins the entire game. Not only is it a completely random game of chance, but it has nothing to do with VR. It may as well be a flat screen game of snakes and ladders. There's no decent use of VR interactivity here, unlike the entire game that proceeds it. The final game has potential, but it's so random as it stands and the odds appear to be stacked against you. This final game is also entirely at odds with everything that came before, which are all solvable puzzles. Just awful, and I refuse to bother with it.
I can recommend everything up to the ending, so long as you're ready for a bunch of bugs. The ending I strongly do not recommend, unless you're going in ready to play many many games and are willing to wait for luck to be on your side. It is such a shame.

Great overall VR Quality in visual and its mechanics.
All puzzles are good with only one 'stuck box' bug near the end.
about total 7 hours in game-play, playing blind.
Played well with Quest 3 via VD streamer.
Worth it on sale.

If you're a fan of The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour, then you'll absolutely love this! I grew up playing those games, and while I struggled with the puzzles back then, it's fantastic to revisit the Stauf Mansion in VR. The puzzles here are really enjoyable – some are challenging, but nothing too frustrating. This is easily one of my top VR game recommendations!

Definitely worth it for puzzle lovers.
Most of the puzzles are not too challenging, but there are a lot of them.
Works well on my HP Reverb G2.
