Boring. Took 30 mins to beat 1 run. You need to beat at least 2 to unlock the second character. As you get through waves in a run, they just take longer. Not because of enemy scaling or anything, but they literally just have longer timers. Your damage doesn't really matter outside of boss fights, which are every 10 waves, of 30. So literally 90% of the time it has no real impact; you will end a wave in X seconds doing 1 damage or 1000. Progression mid-run is boring. You just funnel "crystals" into cards which follow a theme; + attack speed, + crystal gain, etc. But you can only equip 4 cards. Of 5. So you just end up with + crystals popping up all the time in the pool, unable to be taken without losing something else, simply making progression less fun. With the cards you can take there's very little decision making; just pick the same type of card whenever its offered. Every X cards you'll get a bonus like "healing now does killing strike", sometimes even a choice between 2. You can't see these in advance to plan around or aim for them. You just sort of get them without any real control. Other than that you dump iron into your weapon for stat padding bonuses and permanent attack increases. One run took a weapon to nearly 100 attack permanently. I think it started at about 10. So the game will simply get more boring and easy to more I play. Cool. The gameplay itself consists of holding X to attack and dashing into blue circles to go into "frenzy". "Frenzy" doesn't actually do much beyond make the screen harder to see unless you get cards for it. It does seem to make enemies completely unable to fight back, so you just bait it in boss fights, whail on them and win. Otherwise the only notable effect is that your character doesn't track enemies nearly as well during frenzy, so you feel worse. You also have an ultimate attack but its only purpose is to proc frenzy... which dash does on demand even if you have 0 stamina. It doesn't do much damage, doesn't synergize with basic attack skills or dash skills and takes ages to charge. Its not very 'ultimate' Your cards will make you crap out projectiles, heal or whatever when holding X, but fundamentally you play exactly the same at the end of a run as at the start; you're just doing more damage v enemies which largely don't care how much damage you do. You unlock some accesories and new weapons post-run but the former you can only use 1 of and the latter basically just change what dash does and otherwise you play exactly the same. Not seeing the appeal here. Runs are far too long, progression is actively fun killing post-run and overly limited and linear mid-run.
