First of all: I love Zombiepede. I have to admit that I only played it once with a mouse and keyboard, and it was more a frustrating experience after playing it always with controllers. However, playing it with controllers and friends makes it incredibly addictive. I've also played it a lot during the alpha phase for many hours. And why? It's a relaxing game, but definitely not too easy. Especially in the early game, you have to focus on aiming so you don't waste your expensive ammunition. If things aren't going well, you might have to focus on dodging enemies. You weigh whether to destroy graves to make more space, although it doesn't yield resources to buy ammunition, or to focus on the enemies. Different weapons are recommended for different enemies, so it's even more helpful when you don't go into battle alone. Having a sniper with you has often been very helpful. But you can play multiple weapons alone too. The levels get progressively more difficult, so it's essential to regularly visit the shop to upgrade your weapons (or preferably just one). You spend a noticeable amount of time in the shop during a round. There are often moments when you feel overwhelmed, then you get a crucial upgrade – even if it's just a bit more attack speed or bullet penetration – and slowly clear the field and catch your breath again. This feels greeeeat! Once you've achieved a bronze medal, you can call a rescue ship, which takes you out of the level with your high score and medal. After that, your weapons are reset. However, you can unlock new weapons, profiles, badges, and levels. You can also stay in a level longer and try to master the late game. Without the right build, you're usually in trouble here. Different types of enemies or levels pose new challenges, so there's always a reason to keep playing. Once you've collected enough medals, you're released from prison, and you can now play the levels with additional challenges. There aren't many of them currently, but the developer regularly produces new content. The feeling of having a beautifully upgraded weapon and casually taking out everything is just fantastic. One-shotting a fed golem with a sniper rifle... a dream.

I've been playing Zombiepede in the alpha version for a while now, and it's quite addictive. The beginning was a bit complicated for me, but after playing the first level following the tutorial, I slowly grasped the concept. It might seem a bit dull at first, but it has more depth than meets the eye. The shop's interface wasn't particularly intuitive, and it takes some time to understand the difference between upgrades and ammunition. However, each player has their own shop and can level up their own weapons. The levels consistently incorporate various small challenges and introduce new types of enemies. Now that it's on Steam, you can also use the Remote Play feature, and only one out of four players needs to own the game. I would definitely give it a try.
