MIDGAME REVIEW
I somewhat like this game. The different settup, another aproach of the LEGO style game. As a Horizon franchise fan, it is a cool concept. It is none the less sad that they changed the story a bit. One thing they for sure need to change is the respawning. I play on the hardest gamemode, bc i feel that is the way its ment to be played. So with that, of course u die. BUT every time i die, the game sets me back too far. With an endboss EVERYTIME u get the cinematics again. and Yes you can skip them, but it is just annoying. I just want to jump right in again and retry it. So I got mixed feelings about it. So I dont know. Dont buy at full price. In a sale I would suggest.
For now I will go with a suggest this game to play. Ill come back when finished.

There are elements here that could have made a great Lego game. The story is fantastic and quirky, as a Lego adaptation should be. It doesn't stick to the Zero Dawn entirely but the major narrative strokes are there.
The combat is well put together, incorporating a version of the Zero Dawn system that is familiar but fits the play style of a Lego game.
But so much else is lacking. If we set aside that it is a Lego title, and the expectations for the formula that comes with that, this is a fine $30 pickup. But it IS a Lego game, as full AAA price.
There is no exploration element at all. Every level is a linear path from one enemy arena/gauntlet to the next with the most token elements of puzzle solving involved occasionally. The platforming is wafer thin, there is no meaningful building elements to it, and the character dynamic of switching between multiple characters with different skill sets to complete puzzles is entirely absent. You can play as four different characters, but who you choose is dependent on play style only, it seems to have no impact on progression at all (the one exception being that some of the side quests require you to complete levels as different characters, however those same levels do not require a specific character to complete).
The base building element of recreating Mothers Heart is cute but entirely fluff, and much of the customization options are entirely disconnected from the Horizon motif.
I finished the story because that was the one overall redeeming feature, but even then, I would say spend the $90 on Zero Dawn itself, or replay the series, itll be a more productive use of your time and money.

Pros: Beautiful lego diorama sort of experience, beautiful graphics
Cons:
-Rampant reuse of assets throughout the game
-Destroyable lego items are over simplified aftertought
-Nothing like previous lego games, clearly Sony has erased years of development forged by TT Games and WB games in favor for a simplified, mobile game-esque "engine".

Definitely don't recommend playing it if you haven't played the real game (or if you plan to eventually). SPOILERS! Fun game though, all things considered. Far too easy on Story Mode, so don't be afraid to bump up the difficulty even on your first run.

This feels and plays more like a tech demo than an actual game.
I can't even finish it because the gameplay and level designs are so bland. You "play" a level by simply walking from point a to point b, maybe jump up a few small ledges or over a gap as needed, do that for several screens, then fight a few bad guys, then fight a few machines that change depending on the level, and that's all you do. And that is EVERY level. The story loosely follows the first Horizon game, and the dialog is cute, but that is where the fun ends. I wish I could refund this, what a waste of money.
To Summarize:
All style, no substance.
All sizzle, no sausage.
All hat, no cattle.

Boring, repetitive and annoying gameplay. My wife and I are hardcore fans of the Lego game franchise and we have played and completed all the Lego games to 100%. Love them. However, this game is by far the worst of all the Lego games by far. Doesn't belong in the classic Lego game genre. About all I can say good about this game is it looks pretty. Coop multiplayer is quite frankly horrific. Doesn't have the traditional split screen of other Lego games (apart from the very old ones) and actually impacts the gameplay. The play area is extremely restrictive for 2 players and if one player wanders a little too far from the "primary" player you disintegrate and get dragged to the other players location. You could be in the middle of a large combat section and just about to fire a shot or kill something, then zap you are suddenly pulled from where you are and ruins what you were doing. The overall gameplay is boring and repetitive and has no puzzles, no red bricks, no large character sets to collect, no unique finds or lots of items to smash to collect lego pips. You run along a pre-detemined path with no chance to explore far and all the path does is take you to the next fighting arena. Rinse/repeat. The game also feels very much targeted towards very young kids unlike other Lego games which have a wider appeal.
My wife and I were really looking forward to a new Lego game to play together and this has been a huge disappointment for us both. Give this one a miss as this isn't a real Lego game. Should have realised that when seeing Tt games wasn't the Publisher. Sony developers clearly don't know the franchise and have poisoned it with this trash. Avoid!
