As a certified Gorgon Appreciator, I really loved this game. Most everything looks great; in particular, the cute art-style lends itself to some really fun character designs. The level design is solid, and the puzzles make you think without being too frustrating (usually). The voice acting, which I wasn't expecting this game to have at all, is surprisingly good. The soundtrack was jarring at first, but quickly grew on me; it's not at all what I expected going into the game, but it's weirdly killer?? Overall the game feels very polished... except for when it doesn't. The main offender is the camera movement, which struggles with one of the game's core mechanics and as a result ends up feeling janky and jittery. Mostly it's pretty okay; some sections are worse than others, but when it's bad, it's bad. I wouldn't say it makes the game unplayable by any means — I still thoroughly enjoyed it, but ymmv, especially if you're prone to motion sickness. If only one of this game's issues ever gets patched, it needs to be that one; any other criticisms I have are nitpicks at worst. I am still going to list them, however. I think the story would benefit from some more cutscenes and dialogue showcasing
Molinike's loneliness and desperation.
I wish the snakes in her hair had a bit more personality and characterization. I wish she could
talk to her friends and family in the village upon returning home at the end of the game.
I wish the
Sea of Solitude had just a little bit more going on, while still feeling like a barren wasteland.
I think the petrifying gaze would feel more impactful and immersive if the victims had a (brief) animation, or at least a sound effect, when turning to stone. Also, I'm not sure why the game is subtitled "Queen of Spit"? Just "Molly Medusa" would have been fine. There is never a venom/spit mechanic (although I think that would be fun), and Molly isn't really a queen of anything. Maybe in a sequel? I'd love to see more of this world and these characters, so I hope this game gets the love it deserves and the improvements it needs.
