The game is rough at times but it is improving consistently. One of my main problems are stuns and lack of variety in gameplay, such as lack of characters (for now) and there being high stun at times (there are other things but they will probably be improved upon. For early access and the game being in V0.1.4 as of writing this, it is very playable and I highly consider purchasing to support the game; I see it being a pleasing experience once more content releases.
EDIT: The game is now a lot more fluid! The devs fixed the problem with constant hitstun, while also balancing characters. All new animations look very nice and the game usually runs smoothly in both local and online modes. Problems with profiles for control bindings were also fixed, which was a pain in the ass before. Props to the team!
NOTE: As I said in my original review, the game is updated at least once every week, give or take, and thus is seeing improvements, while simultaneously listening to feedback given by the community. Basically everything will probably be fixed at some point soon.
Cowboy was released about a week ago, and he is probably the most fun character to come out so far, which leaves hype for the inclusion of V1 (ULTRAKILL) in April 2024.
There are still problems with the game, I'll state a few down here in a list;
- Stage from VVVVVV is awful, CPU can SD all of their stocks within 30 seconds just because of how the map is laid out, as well as the map just not being a whole lot of fun to play on due to the platforms. When in the stage select screen, the map appears different and looks WAY better than the current stage.
- Stardrop has a few unfinished animations (its mostly done, he just has no expressions/proper shading), while also having no back air (it is just the same as forward air)
- The CPU are very inconsistent, and even on Level 9 is not that hard to beat.
- Sports mode is unplayable with a CPU, as they just try to hit you instead of going for the volleyball.
- King Paublo boss at the end of arcade mode needs to be updated, as he does not have an animation for when Cowboy lassos him, just turning into a white square.
- A lot of stages lack music, Colosseum only has 1 track
- Not often, but sometimes the trajectories of attacks don't make sense, such as going in the opposite direction of where an opponent was hit
I would still highly recommend this game, as it seems to be going in a really good direction, as well as having an active community for matchmaking and tournaments every Friday! The game is loads of fun, and the developers are consistently making changes to the game.

no easy interface design + the fact you cant see the controls on the pause screen left me confused how to use the move for when my meter got full i had to go to the main menu and see i had to press the controller icon in the char select honestly 7/10 pixel art good not good user design.

This is nowhere near a bad game, in fact, it has a lot of promise. but right now, its very, very unfinished. I get it's early access and all but this feels almost unplayable at times. When or if it gets better, I'll buy it again. I love the character choices and plans, the pixel art is amazing and the stage design is great. But right now it's so unfinished it feels like too much of a hassle to play. Would i recommend this game? in the future; yes! I'm sure this game will get better. right now? I'd hold onto your money for a bit.
(Sorry if I was hard to understand sometimes, I'm not great at words)

Cross Impact was extremely rough when it originally released, which coupled with its incredibly ambition, really threw me off when I tried it out. However, through constant small balancing and animation updates, I think it's slowly coming into its own. I don't recommend if you're trying to get the Super Smash Bros. of indie games (two of the seven currently available characters are from games published by the dev lead, after all), but they managed to get both Alex from YIIK and the PC from Hotline Miami as playable characters somehow, which is definitely an accomplishment from such an unknown team.

I saw someone talking about this game in a tweet, the idea of alex yiik, jumbo josh, and jacket all being in the same fighting game REALLY interested me, I purchased it immediately only to be met with the most lackluster piece of garbage I have ever had the displeasure of spending my hard earned cash on. The fighting feels clunky, the tutorial is broken and even when I've seen it work it still doesn't explain anything, I have NO CLUE how to use my special, NO IDEA how to use these assist that you guys are so hyping up of, absolutely nothing here works correctly. I will say I had some fun matches as alex, he does have some fun combos to try, but there is quite literally nothing here to make it viable at all. No substance no flavor no nothing. This game solely rides off the backs of the indie projects that agreed to be apart of it, and even then half of these characters I have no idea who the hell they are, not to mention how gimmicky and borderline unplayable half of the cast is to the point where you can't tell if it's bugged or an actual genuine gameplay feature, and don't even get me STARTED on them going F2P. I am still so pissed over this fact, they gave us who payed money literally nothing with the sorry excuse of "oh uh well you guys got to play it early so that's why you payed the premium" that is actually so buns. Please get better devs, please get better LIKE EVERYTHING. I can not support this project in the state it is in, and with the direction it is going I HEAVILY doubt I will ever support this project again. Also holy crap can you guys like actually get a working discord server with proper mods, I tried to contact devs over my issues MONTHS AGO and go literally ZERO RESPONSES, not to mention it is IMPOSSIBLE to do anything related to speaking to devs about issues in the DISCORD SERVER. I am fuming as I write this, do better.

I've been playing platform fighters for 15 years, and I've even competed at some major events. So you can believe me when I tell you this: It fails at the one fundamental thing every platform fighter needs to nail, making the movement feel good. The characters in this game are extremely stiff, and the moment you do a move all momentum stops. Many attacks feel like they come out way too slowly, the actual animations are janky with items just popping into existence, and somehow, it feels like every character is trying to walk underwater.
The characters they picked for this game are laughably terrible; one of them is the main dev's OC most likely from their college game design course, and most of the others are a list of D-tier trash nobody would ask for. The most agregious is Alek YIIK, from the notorious dumpster fire YIIK, based on a douchebag who can't take criticism. I should thank the fact that the audio mixing is so terrible that I can't hear him while playing. The only ones worth anything are Jacket from Hotline Miami and V1 from Ultrakill, both of which are wasted on this schlock. An upcoming character is from a FNAF ripoff - they couldn't even get the real deal - created by a studio who made a game about a school shooting and tried to make it "funny." They're also wasting the Pizza Tower license, as well as for some of the other stages.
On top of all that, the game includes music that I'm 90% sure is plagiarized from Ace Attorney on the Aetherian Rhapsody stage. The devs can't handle criticism to save their lives, which is hilarious because they clearly fundamentally do not understand what makes platform fighters fun and are clearly looking to make a quick buck off of what I can describe definitively as "What if Fraymakers looked and played like shit, and also couldn't afford a good roster."
Don't waste your money on this garbage. Don't support these amateurish children masquerading as game devs. If you want a good platform fighter to play on Steam, Fraymakers, Rivals of Aether, Slap City, Nick All-Stars, Rushdown Revolt, hell, even Multiversus and Indie Pogo have all got you covered.
To the devs: You shouldn't be charging money for this. Do better, because this is shameful.

While I understand this is an Early Access game, this game feels way too rough around the edges for even Early Access.
The animations are stiff and clunky, there are optimization issues with the game stuttering every time a match begins, the computer AI is kind of abysmal (In one match, an Alex bot dropped his amp and proceeded to get stuck behind it and just blindly mash until it got unstuck). No one character ever really felt satisfying to play as other than maybe Jacket?
On the subject of the animations, there's a certain lack of distinction? What I mean is, for example, Jacket has an attack where he shoots a pistol but there's no real "shot", I thought it was just a pistol-whip for awhile. Pogo Mode is just Indie Pogo but not nearly as satisfying, Sports Mode is Volleyball but the AI is so abysmal that it can't even hit the ball forward and will just let it continually drop on it's side (And when their last point is depleted the game just keeps going, leaving you in an empty field until you exit out) and Arcade Mode is punishing; one KO and you're kicked back to the CSS with no option for difficulty changes or extra lives
Oh, on the subject of Arcade Mode, I was bewildered when I hit random select and I got a character named "King Paublo". I would later realize this was a mid-boss in the Arcade mode. He hits like a train, but can't jump and moves very slowly. At first I thought maybe this was a nice, hidden little easter egg for people to stumble across until I made it to the end of Arcade Mode and found a platforming stage I couldn't complete because Paublo can't jump.
It wasn't an easter egg, it was just an oversight.
I'm genuinely wondering where the 13k this game raised on Kickstarter went, because it doesn't seem like it's anywhere here to be found. I can barely justify the 9 bucks I paid for this, this should be a FREE EA for the state that it's in.
I truly hope that maybe one day this game can become something great, but... I'm sorry, but no.
