I almost never like the whip-like weapons, but the weapon of this game had both some interesting movements and a blade at the end, but also dealing with enemies is what made it more interesting, because many games would just use the mechanic of enemies reviving if you don't finish them to put a lot of enemies in a tight space just to give you a sense of artificial difficulty of quanity over quality, but in this game every enemy position is studied in a way that enemies can still be a menace alone, but when there are more that can attack you either in the same place or in an immediate subsequent way when you go forward, it will be in an intellligent and possibly bastard way, some enemies really got me good with some unexpected tricks.
A lot of enemies also surprised me for their relentlesness, because they are placed in spots where they can follow you even until the end of the screen, and they are also immune to almost every type of spike but one, and they can climb on platforms above half the protagonist height, even if they are zombies with only the upper half.
The movements of the protagonist are a bit slow paced yes, but they improve going forward, and honestly, talking about slow paced, it felt better than Blasphemous (that I completed at 100% with C ending) for both movement, platforming and most of the bosses, above all the giant ones were the peak of this game for me, and contrary to Blasphemous, that still has this issue to this day, there were not hitboxes problems during fights or important platforming sections. I mean the reason I died more at Blasphemous than this game is because I wasn't giving that much attention to many of those bosses aside from maybe 2 or 3, while the enemies, obstacles and bosses of this game made me keep my attention almost always and I still got kicked in the ass sometimes. As for the plot, I think I prefer a straightforward revenge story like this to one with an hypocritic man that act like judge, jury and executioner toward poor souls pretending to be the saviour while however vexing and killing them in some painful ways (so yes both the Penitent One and the Cardinal of Blasphemous are quite similar)
Anyway this game was a blast for most of the time, the little issues being for me the lack of a detailed map for the zones and the fact of losing money if you didn't survive until the next checkpoint without having a chance of recovering them, which isn't that much of a problem given of much you can gain, but still bothered me a little, above all for the ones in one time chests, but it's all manageable in the end

Me: i just finished a very hard level with impossible jumps and very accurate evasion, i just reached the mid boss, i died here like a dozen, finally beat the boss, leave the boss room, no checkpoint, no warp gate, u still move along the level with even more impossible jumps.
Me: dies after the mid boss, didn't reach a new checkpoint, so go back to the checkpoint at the beggining of the the level.
Me: ''Hey, game, i killed the mid level boss, shouldn't he still be dead ? shouldn't there be a check point after the mid boss ?''
Game : ''Say what ? since when ? says who?''
And this is my story with the game, insane lack of checkpoints, nothing is kept after death, if u play for a long time and lose, doesn't matter before or after boss, if u didn't reach a checkpoint, badly placed checkpoint, u do it all over again, and all the gold u found on the way is like it never happened.
HATE THIS GAME WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING, buy it now.
