Played this game again after years had passed since the last time I played it with my cousins on the 360. I felt like I traveled time and I was back sitting criss-cross applesauce in the floor getting my ass handed to me. Get your homies to buy the game and play it bro bro.

I've been looking for a good platforming game that gave me the same feeling when I first touched Mario Maker 1 and 2. Which this game delivers with wacky, dumb, fun stuff to play around with. If you haven't played this yet, do yourself a favour and buy this absolute gem.

Played it ever since I owned the Xbox 360, beat it on the Xbox One, and it’s at the top of my favorite platformer video games. It has immaculate teenage humor, an amazing narrator’s voice, a great story that doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay or mechanics, and it perfectly makes sense for you to be in a platformer. The difficulty curve is perfect, and the music fits everything so well that I listen to it all the time in my free time. And the millions of characters you can choose from, being all so incredibly unique, and crazy, I love it all! 10/10!

BattleBlock Theater is a brilliantly crafted platformer that combines quirky humor, inventive level design, and a charming art style to create a unique and memorable gaming experience. Developed by The Behemoth, the same studio behind Castle Crashers, the game stands out with its distinctive narrative voice and challenging gameplay, delivering both laughs and intense platforming challenges in equal measure. From the moment players step into the colorful world of the game, it becomes clear that BattleBlock Theater is not just about precision jumping but also about storytelling and personality. The gameplay centers around guiding a hapless protagonist through a series of creatively designed levels filled with traps, puzzles, and enemies. The core platforming mechanics are tight and responsive, demanding careful timing and quick reflexes. Each stage presents unique challenges that test players' skills in different ways—whether it’s avoiding deadly spikes, navigating moving platforms, or solving clever puzzles that require both brainpower and dexterity. The game rewards exploration, often hiding collectibles and secret paths that encourage replaying levels to achieve 100% completion. One of the game’s most distinctive features is its humor, delivered primarily through the sarcastic and often absurd commentary of the narrator. The narration adds a layer of personality that transforms what could be a standard platformer into an engaging story full of wit and unexpected twists. This narrative style makes the game feel alive and continuously entertaining, with jokes and commentary that play off the player’s successes and failures. The story itself, involving a group of prisoners trying to escape a bizarre and dangerous theater, is both charming and absurd, perfectly matching the game’s visual style. Visually, BattleBlock Theater boasts a colorful and cartoonish art direction that feels fresh and vibrant. The hand-drawn animations give life to the characters and environments, making every movement and action feel fluid and expressive. The design of the levels and enemies is imaginative, full of quirky details that enhance the game’s whimsical tone. Additionally, the soundtrack complements the gameplay perfectly, with upbeat and catchy tunes that keep the energy high throughout the experience. Beyond the single-player campaign, BattleBlock Theater offers a robust multiplayer mode that adds significant replay value. Players can team up cooperatively to tackle the platforming challenges or compete in a variety of competitive minigames that test different skills and strategies. The multiplayer experience enhances the game’s social aspect, turning it into a fantastic party game where laughter and chaos abound. This mode is particularly well-executed, with intuitive controls and gameplay that scales well for different numbers of players. While BattleBlock Theater is widely praised, it’s worth noting that some players might find certain levels frustrating due to their difficulty spikes. The precise platforming required can sometimes lead to repeated failures, which might not appeal to everyone. However, the game’s sense of humor and rewarding level design often soften these moments, encouraging persistence and offering a satisfying sense of accomplishment once overcome. In conclusion, BattleBlock Theater is a standout platformer that combines clever level design, a distinctive sense of humor, and charming aesthetics into a cohesive and engaging package. Its blend of challenging gameplay and witty storytelling creates a unique experience that appeals to both casual and hardcore players alike. Whether playing solo or with friends, the game delivers countless hours of fun, laughter, and platforming excitement, cementing its place as a beloved title in the indie gaming scene. Rating: 9/10

Battleblock Theater is great! Very silly, fun and challenging platforming, and nice co-op mechanics. Playing online can create some weird physics interactions due to lag but it never really ruined the fun. If you like the Behemoth visuals and humor, go for it. Even though I haven't played it for years, I still find myself whistling the main theme every now and then. The game also has a whole Steam shopping integration to get people to trade and sell in-game items with eachother and I have no idea what to think about it. I guess it's cool since you can technically unlock everything in the game without paying extra and maybe make a couple cents selling costumes you find ugly...? But it's still just gambling and I don't really vibe with that...? Anyway, it's interesting, but I never really cared for it.
