You go from Grandpa Kiryu to Agent Kiryu and from the get-go the story is fire. Kiryu is somehow gets even more badass as he sheds his name and become the Nameless Kin- ah fuck myb wrong game.

The amount of forced filler missions is more than the actual story missions.
Its not a bad game at all, there's just too much filler content and I'd rather watch the cutscenes instead.

Such a wonderful story rich game! I never wrote any single Steam review but this game deserves it!
The ending brought tears in my eyes. Thank you SEGA & Ryu Ga Gotoku!

This game is easily my second favorite Yakuza title. The gameplay is IS ABSOLUTELY PEAK, smooth, polished, and finally lets you switch between two fighting styles depending on who you’re up against with one being fast paced like the rush style in Yakuza 0 and the other being the legendary dragon style. The story has it all from PEAK aura moments, emotional scenes that hit hard, and a cinematic feel thanks to the amazing graphics on max settings.
The ending is without a doubt the best in the whole series so far, and it sets up the next game perfectly. The mini-games were amazingly engaging and are super fun and the Coliseum addition fits in perfectly getting those builds down was definitely something to look forward to.
From The Man Who Sold the World to The Man Who Erased His Name, both carry that top tier aura that’s simply is unmatched.

Amazing game, shame it's so short. Probably because it's a side story of Like A Dragon (Y7 from different perspective). Because of how short it is, I recommend it to get it on discount, but if you're a die hard fan full price also worth it. The immersive club is *chef's kiss.

This answered none of the questions I had between 7 and 8. Kiryu's new fighting style as Agent is fun but I found myself stuck to his classic Yakuza style more often.
Sorry, not Kiryu - just some nobody in a stylish suit beating up hundreds of people in Red Light districts to get enough cash to race pocket cars and succinctly says "A." all the time.
Don't buy special editions, it's really not worth it. You'll get max level gold rank allies and cash idly by spamming light attack in the arena for an hour, which you have to do anyways to level the crew up and get reliable cash.

Short review: good game overall, almost great for a "spin-off". Biggest issue were the graphics. On a 4070 Ti Super with everything at max & FPS limit at 120, was getting frame drops to the 90's in some areas. Worse, enabling DLSS crashes the game, although there might be some work arounds found on the internet.
As an aside, I found Joryu's Clark Kent disguise unironically hilarious. A pair of sunglasses literally masks his identity, except that everyone seems to already know who he is.

A love letter to the people who have been following kiryu's journey since the beginning and gives another side of the story of yakuza 7
Still recovering from the ending so I don't have much to say but after seeing it...this series means something to me man..
left me bawling my eyes out
Thank you.

Melancholic and short, but still delivers some hues of the classic Yakuza experience. Like a Dragon Gaiden goes back to the series' roots with the Beat 'em up genre after going full turn based in Yakuza 7, and I have to say its been one hell of a journey beginning this series from Yakuza 0. The story is short and the cast of characters really carried the game, Just like any Yakuza game, Gaiden features fun side content that would keep you away from the story. Substories were weak compared to other titles, but the combat has been smoother than ever.
The story features an emotional conclusion to a part of Kiruy's journey, and I recommend this game to anyone that followed the series from the start.
