Quick review here, just to add up a positive note on Nikoderiko. It's basically "we have DKC at home", but as PC doesn't have many alternatives (Marsupilami would be another one I can recall right now), this is good enough. The challenge is very good while not being overwhelming, and the levels are visually fun most of the time. Could same a few more "Crash" sections, but oh well. I have had 14 fun hours for a fair price (got it on sale).

This game is beautiful, challenging, accessible and in some ways, as good or better than Donkey Kong games. The soundtrack is exceptional and the colors and art direction make me feel like a kid in an eye candy store. It's not often that I like a game enough to take screen shots and practice drawing the characters and environments. I'm not a young gamer, but this game makes me feel young!

I like this game. From the first moments of having the game open it scratched at my childhood platformer itch perfectly. Aesthetically it's gorgeous, and it runs really well on my laptop - though i would say the loading times are a little long. (probably a me issue there though.)
The characters handle ok, though things do feel a little floaty due to the double press jump and glide. The game would benefit massively from a double jump as i feel it runs into "Crash 1" territory with some rather tight jumps and subsequent cheap deaths.
Continuing the comparison to Crash (specifically It's About Time). I hugely appreciate that they don't hide collectables in such a way that they're totally impossible to find without either a ritual sacrifice (or looking them up.)
There's a general logic to the secrets that are subtly telegraphed which is genuinely excellent level design.
The music is cute, atmospheric and generally joyous but not overloaded. David Wise though, so there's no surprise there.
I do have gripes, but only a couple. My first- and this is a gripe i have with 90% of games - is that, rather than someone trying to do their best Scottish accent, just get one of us to do it! There's plenty of us Scots floating around.
(Orlius, i'm talking about Orlius, and while i will commend the actor for a passable attempt compared to the usual pirate we get, it claws at my soul regardless.) lmao
Ok ok, now to a genuine gripe. I'm not a fan of the random loot chest mechanic - it feels like you're training kids for later gambling which genuinely sucks. Yeah i know there's no premium currency or anything like that, and in this case i'd imagine it's for grinding's sake and nothing nefarious - and unlocking models and music is cool - but there are better ways to facilitate that that don't strafe into luck based rubbish.
Otherwise i absolutely recommend this game! Those mongooses are adorable!

Very bummed. The game actually seems really fun. I adore Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot and think the two games blend really well in this game. Unfortunately, it stutters almost constantly. I'm on an RX 9070 and a 5700X3D, so it's not a problem with not having enough computational resources. It's an Unreal Engine problem. They should precompile the shaders, as that would at least help considerably. Unfortunately the game is basically unplayable IMO,

It's been a while since I've been this frustrated with a game that is soooo close to being fun but just isn't. It looks great, it has that "feel", you see the references to Crash and DKC, and it should all click - and it does on paper. And yet it doesn't in practice.
The movement is somewhere between sluggish and only what I can call weird , and the hitboxes are wonky. Pair that with the slide you use to attack many enemies which lasts for a certain amount of time in such a way that you're not sure if the slide will go through the next enemy or if you'll exit your slide and walk right into them and take damage.
Infinity Master did the developers a real solid and listed every issue I got with this game to a tee.
I only made it through the first world before I realized I didn't have to do this anymore - I could refund it in time: And that is the happiest this game has made me.

As a lover of couch co-op, a game like this was an awesome treat to find. Just a smooth and wonderful experience, through and through. Very colourful, lovely art design, and some very memorable music in places. And just a great smashing of all the familiar platformers you've played before and grown up with, real good stuff.
