MGR:R is supposed to be my jam, but the camera system is truly broken and I ended up getting frustrated with it. Furthermore, there's a bug that caps the fps to 30 if playing fullscreen, and you need to download a mod to fix it --this kind of things shouldn't pass a quality control to publish the game on PC--.
When the combat works, it is very enjoyable, but most of the time it doesn't work. The camera shouldn't rotate to the character's direction, it should be the other way around. This fact, in combination with the directional parry mechanic, makes me wonder if they just wanted to make the game worse on purpose.

can't play on fullscreen because my screen resolution is too high for this game
why is this an issue when its not for any other game even before 2013?

One hell of a great time! All the characters are memorable and the game is incredible. The mechanics are easy to learn but hard to master. If you're on the fence about this game, just get it. You won't regret it.

This game is just a fever dream, adrenaline junkie, meme generator that pumps adrenaline straight into your veins and is the embodiment of the phrase "F*** YEAH". This game is probably also one of the easier hack-and-slash type games out there, since the mechanics are quite simple: Light attack, heavy attack, dash light, dash heavy, items, and a block/parry. (Quick note about the parry for anyone wondering, you have to press forward on the control stick AND the light attack button AT THE SAME TIME. Forward on the control stick is also in the direction of the enemy, and parrying is doing that right as the enemy hits you, not before). Also, there is a bullet time mode called Blade Mode, which, once an enemy is flashing blue, allows you to cut the enemy to pieces (also another quick tip, you can use the right analogue stick to aim your cuts if you're having a hard time cutting the target areas for the Zandatsu, or the way you recover Blade Mode gauge and health).
Neither of us have the time to cover the story, but just know it's amazing, and the Codec calls add a ton to the story (another note is if you're going for the Codec achievement, use the Codec while close to an enemy to get a special Codec conversation. This is why I missed the achievement on my first playthrough even though I was actively looking for more Codec conversations).
Last is the extra content: The VR missions, and the DLC missions. First, the VR missions are fun.... So long you aren't going for gold. Going for gold can slingshot you through half the store, so it's not worthless, but IT IS NOT FUN. The times are so strict, you have to use guides on the internet if you want to keep your sanity. Or, you know, just do them for fun and not gold. That works too. One more thing about the VR missions is that there are 70 missions total, 20 you find hidden through the campaign, and 50 that are DLC missions. You have access to the DLC missions straight away, but the main 20 you will need to find in the main campaign missions on laptops. They aren't that hard to find, I managed to find like 17 by myself, only a few I had to use a guide for.
As for the two DLC missions, one has you play as Blade Wolf, the other as Jetstream Sam. Unfortunately, these missions are kinda lackluster. The story for them are fine, but the gameplay, and more importantly, the content, are kind of lacking with them. First, with Blade Wolf's story, it's really short. There are three sections to it; the start, which is an introduction to the gameplay changes in Blade Wolf's moveset, showing this is more of a stealth mission rather than a combat themed one, which can be fun at times, the second part, where Blade Wolf attempts an escape, which is the meat of the game, and then the end when you fight the boss. The boss is the best part of the story, since it's a very well done boss, but aside from that, there isn't too much with it.
Next is Jetstream Sam's story, and hoo boy, I might get people mad with this, but I don't really like it. It has the same problem with Blade Wolf's story, in that it's short, with again, three sections, the sewers, the main building, and then the Armstrong fight, but the gameplay is more like Raiden's, as an all out combat style rather than stealth. However, this is where the problems come in with two minor changes: One is that his block doesn't block all damage, meaning anytime you get hit while blocking, you will take some chip damage, which is somewhat fine, since at this point, he doesn't have his augmentations yet, so of course he won't be as strong, and this encourages players to learn the game more by perfecting their skill in parrying instead of blocking, but this is where the second problem emerges: The Taunt. Jetstream Sam has a unique move where he taunts the enemy, making them mad for a short while. When this happens, the enemies take and deal more damage. The problem? THE DLC IS BALLANCED AROUND THIS. If you don't taunt the enemies, the game will come to a crawl since the enemies are REALLY tanky, meaning you have to use the taunt to make them take any substantial damage, but since this also makes them more agressive, and the taunt animation takes a while, though I can't remember if you can cancel it. In summary, you either play while knocking on death's door, or by playing at an incredibly slow pace.
While I would say more, I realize I said more about the DLC than I did about the main game. Point is, it's good. Really good. Get it if you're a fan of Hack-and-Slash games, a Metal Gear fan, or just curious about the MEMES, THE DNA OF THE SOUL. You'll have fun with it.

Metal Gear Rising ironically used Memes effectively to make sure it would live on forever. Truly rising to beyond human level of entertainment and ascending to MEME-like omnipresence!
