This game is a great example of how to make a boring game. It's too slow, the strategy elements are weak, and it's just not satisfying. It's also very short, I was able to complete it within the 2 hour refund period. Would not recommend.

if you like the first part, don't recommend to play this one. There was so much intence and playfun, but not here, really dissapointed

Not sure if this team actually played the first game ? Mean this is so dumbed-down. Was imagining you where going to play as the hive , building you living defences and trying to break through. The fun was trying to remembered to key combinations. Now it is just 1,2,3,4 aka shields go fast. Should refund this cash grab. But loved the first one so much. Rather just buy the first one

Genuinely disappointed. Protolife, the original, was a real smash with a tense grimy feel, the organic pulsing threat of the foe truly throwing themselves at you, and it felt like it had fire. This Protolife feels... static. The GUI lacks polish, there are no controls for sound save on/off (forcing me to manage the volume of the repetitive 4-second loop of music via my system sound settings), and the gameplay seems a mix of frustrating, lacking any controls or nuance, and bizarrely primitive.
I bought this to playthrough with my partner like we did the first game, but where the first game had me eagerly let her takeover to win when my own skills were lacking for the sheer thrill of the gameplay, this one had her watching and just said "this has far more of a 'first project' feel to it than the first game".
I hope the developer can review their first game and identify the things they did to bring a real spark to it, from the music to the dynamic and evolving feel of the world and enemy, to the nuance and emergent complexity of the gameplay mechanics, and find the drive to craft another experience that captures that same spark. This game, is not it.

sadly, I kind of do not feel like this game has a lot to offer
it build upon the old game in terms of setting, but otherwise is attempting to be an opposite: play the biomass rather than what you were before
the idea of the game is that you try to rescue as much biomass as possible and that every time you rescue biomass, the invader builds new turrets through your old escape route, making you think how to proceed
the problem is it captures none of the charm of the old game and the mechanics are not particularily good, in my opinion:
the music doesn't slap like in the first game, the enemy building after each successful attempt means you want to either get through as many bugs as possible or none at all, since turrets will either need to be destroyed with abilities (which always harm your bugs) or avoided (impossible at some point in time, as turrets increase in count).
there is no growth cycle, there are various towers which do not really differ except that they project what is effectively speaking a kill zone where either you have speed/protection (apparently the only abilities, really, besides ram, which is neccesary for your bugs to attack the enemy because else they just pop when touching them) or need to destroy them. there is little thinking or strategy involved as you cannot try to power through the defenses with enough biomass, tanking the shots. you cannot really decide "I will take out this defence and then use the bugs it was meant to protect against", having only worms. if you destroy any single block the entire structure stops functioning too.
I must admit that the old style had a lot of charm that I realize is missing in this game as well, aside from the music
and one of the other things is, going into the game from having played Protolife, I thought that just ramming my bugs into the enemy would be enough, but the enemies are immune to your bug's attack unless you use the ability. this meant for me that when in the tutorial I suicided my bugs into the turret it was left standing, AND I did not get the ability. this is just one bug (besides a crash), not really here as a review but becuse I have no idea where to report bugs. pun not intended.
all in all, it is just not the game for me, and is basically a game of an entire different genre, style and everything and has little to do in common with protolife besides the devs and setting. maybe there is more as I get deeper into the game, but I do not wish to subject myself to more if this is the core gameplay loop
I wish the devs luck however, and hope that it is just me who does not like the game. even if this review may be a turn off, remember that you can return the game within 2 hours of playtime and 2 weeks of owning it, so you can very much test it out rather than just straight out saying "not worth these bucks"
