First off, taste in games — especially indie horror — varies wildly from person to person. You made design choices I personally wouldn’t have made, but hey, I’m not a developer. I’m just a player, and my standards are shaped by my experiences. I’m super passionate about indie horror games and have played dozens of them. That said, it's entirely possible that i lost my fun when it comes to unique quirks games in this genre often offer.
That said, one big issue I feel strongly about, and I think a lot of experienced players do too, is the (over) usage of AI-generated assets. It's something that’s often seen as a red flag in indie horror these days. I want to be honest here: while the atmosphere in your game is seriously well done — intense and genuinely scary — the use of obviously AI-generated imagery on the walls really pulls people out of the experience IF it is used excessively. If you are easily bothered by AI generated imagery then you can still enjoy the game greatly if you manage to ignore it. I ignored the images after the second chapter and i am really glad i did because beneath the surface of the game lie a lot of nice and creative horror moments like jumpscared or sounds.
Secondly, the choice to give players infinite resources. I can see the logic behind it, to let everyone play at their own pace and style. But if I remember correctly, this isn’t really communicated in the game. Having an endless supply of light effectively disables the shadow mechanics, which I found to be one of the most intriguing features early on. Once I realized I couldn’t run out of resources, a lot of the tension was gone. BUT. And this is a big BUT: The shadow still appears even with infinite resources but less on random occasions and more on scripted ones, but the same tension is still achieved by that.
So here’s a more constructive suggestion: consider adding a difficulty setting. Want to just enjoy the story? Give players infinite resources. Want a tense, nerve-wracking experience? Limit pickups and make them count. Sure, implementing this would take extra development time, but it would also make the design choices feel intentional rather than like a bug or oversight.
Lastly, regarding the Japanese character and the butchery scene — you were right to call that out. I criticized something without knowing how it actually plays out. That was my mistake, and i gave the game a second chance, didnt regret it at all and at the end understood all of this. So please, even if its confusing in the first chapters, just continue, it will all "click" later.
I changed my recommendation up because the dev explained his goals and after learning what he wanted to achieve and actually playing the game with that in mind, it changed a lot for me. Yes the game has its quirks and its by far not perfect. But you can clearly tell that a lot of work and love went into it and its story. Yes there are AI voices and AI images but if you manage to ingore that you have a truely nice experience which lasted me a whopping 10 hours. Fr. Almost no indie horror game (or other horror games for that matter) offer that much playtime. Heads up Daniele. Good job.
