before i start I got maybe an hour of gameplay before giving up on this game and must of that was replaying the first world over so i coud move to world two because the menu wouldnt let me select anything but world 1. i left on to get cards and thats the end of this simplest platformer ive ever played. no story par you are turned into a frog and need to save the princess. after exiting the game i couldnt restart or pick up from world two but coud only start from the last level of world 1 which was annoying. i think i paided $0.99 on this and i suggested not paying anything ever for it as its controls, music, gameplay, story, and anything else you could name isnt very good and you could get much more for your money anywhere else.

I played Superfrog on the Amiga back in the day and it was a great game. So I was looking forward to playing this version. However, as much as I'd like to play it, I can't. It's just way too fast moving that it's impossible to focus on where you are jumping to, yet alone trying to avoid things. Maybe it's my setup, but it's superfastfrog!!! I can't see any option to slow it down a little so for me I have to give it a miss. To the developer... Please slow it down so you can react and see what you are doing. It's impossible to play currently which is a real shame.

Finally after years of me bugging Team17 to remake one of my favorite games of all time, they have done it. Of course I'm not going to lie, it's not perfect. The new music it pretty bad, and we don't get the level editor the PS3 version has, but I hyped this up for so long they could of never met my expectations. If you're a fan of the Amiga classic I would highly recommend it. With new levels to keep it fresh and the old ones included too (which has the old music may I add, a big plus) it is definetly worth a look.

Team 17, awesome developers on Amiga and Atari ST (still damn them), authors of monuments like Alien Breed, Project X, Body Blows and still topical Worms, attacks like their colleagues Bitmap Brothers a remake of one of their flagship (and no less unforgettable) game, Superfrog. Cute little platform game endowed at the time (1993) with nice cartoon graphics, superfrog tells the story of a prince transformed into a frog by a witch. This nice guy or rather nice frog (like doodle), goes in search of his sweetheart through several levels, each more beautiful than the other. Not very complicated to take in hand, it is the same controls as in 1993, I move forward, I go back, I jump etc. etc. In short, it is from the oldschool platform. Superfrog is a very successful remake, the levels are slightly different from 1993 but the essence of the game is intact, as a bonus there are the original levels from 1993 with the music of this period magical for us old players. After Speedball 2, it is with joy that we welcome a monument of the 90s. Overall rating: 16/20

I don't think you can buy this game anymore on Steam, but I just thought I'd review it for the sake of having beat the game. It took me about 10 hours to beat the game and get all achievements. The graphics are cartoony, but work for the type of genre this is. This is purely platforming with collecting of coins and golden lillies. The levels aren't horribly designed, but the enemy of this game is the controls more than the creatures that can hurt you. While the controls aren't horrible, I found myself dying all too often for running and jumping off a ledge. It turns out that I needed to jump then run or else I fall and too often I fall on spikes. Maybe it's the issue of framerates, not sure, but in order to solve the game from going way too fast, turn off V-Sync in order to make the game playable. There are 6 worlds with remastered levels, 4 each, and the original levels, 4 each. Each world offers a different scenery and background and does get more and more difficult as you move forward. You can jump and with the right items you can float after jumping and use an item for attacks to get rid of enemies on the level. You get hit by anything you have 5 hits before you die, but if you hit a static spike you lose all 5 lives, same with touching iced water. It's weird, but eventually, the game just isn't that hard so not too annoying. The most difficult aspect of this game is that each level is timed, it didn't happen too often but it definitely occurred where I didn't finish a level because of the time, as I tried to collect everything, or I rushed to the exit while skipping obvious collectables in the level. There are boss battles with the witch that transformed you into a frog, but those boss battles are useless as I barely even had to dodge the witch, just kept attacking her and eventually I won. While this is not a great game, it does offer some old school nostalgia and because of that I would recommend this game if you could find it as it's not a bad remaster of an original game.

The original was my favourite game growing up, this has the original set of levels as well as all new ones based on the same worlds as the previous game. It feels janky when superfrog jumps in comparison to the original. Aside from that, I love it.

Superfrog was my very first computer game, bought along with Amiga 500 back in 1993. I played it several times to the end and I remember it fondly. That's why I purchased Superfrog HD on day one, right when I saw it on Steam. Little did I know that the game has virtually nothing to do with the original and probably wasn't even touched by the old wizards from Team17. :-( The game fails on so many levels that it is beyond comprehension. Instead of starting on a long rant, I'll try tu put it in points: Cons: - you get to play scrambled versions of the original levels, and get the original levels as a bonus; the scrambled levels offer completely nothing apart from standard objects, so I fail too see the point of their existence at all, let alone being put in front; if the standard levels were prominent and the scrambled versions offered as bonuses - it could be forgiven, but the way it is - it's horrible - no original soundtrack, just something that tries to imitate it and fails miserably - eliminated the requirement to collect a given amount of coins to open exit - why? - no Lucozade, just some anonymous potion, at least it's still orange... - flawed steering, making it impossible to shoot diagonally - maybe it's just me, but compared to Amiga original, the screen movement is nauseating - completely pointless "Gamble" section compared to the original - the game was unnecessarily made easier - higher jumping (like in Easy mode in the original), ability to kill hedgehogs and snails by shooting, or "rest-spaces" in the notorious spikes at the end of the last space level; now I know it's a game primarily for kids, but come on... - redundant "boss fights" in each world (shoot-crouch-repeat) - vague scoring system - heck, even the title screen controls are broken - you cannot select level with mouse, have to use arrows instead... - ...and what happened to the notorious Project F level? Pros (yeah, there are some): - the graphics are ok - steam achievements (I love them in every game) - steam trading cards (if you like it) Hm, that'll be it I guess. Sorry, I tried. I finished the whole game, I got all the achievements, I tried the time trial mode (while the concept may be ok, I got bored with it after a few runs) and while the nostalgia is live, I simply don't like the product overall. Many things could have been done better. Heck, if they just took the original, updated the graphics, make it playable on Win/Mac/Linux and left all the rest (music, levels, mechanics) untouched - I would probably rate it 9/10 and buy a copy for every member of my family. But as it is, it was a big disappointment and the only consolation is that my 3-year-old likes to jump around with the froggy, else it would be a major waste of money.

I would possibly go for no for this game. Because I was kinda expecting more additional features and maybe include the original version for young gamers to show what the Original 1993 Amiga version of Superfrog really looked like; maybe add some archives or video footage of it, for this HD Remake game to make it a bit more exicting. The problem I am finding with this game is the spud shooter aiming diagonally. So personally if some gaming industries want to make a remake as well in HD then I think they should include the original version, but most importantly wipe those long-term discovered bugs that came in the original near the 16-bit era. Save states would be useful if the original SF game came too.
25 / 100
Nostalgia is a funny thing; those fond memories captured in time from your long lost past. Superfrog back on the Amiga was one of those games for me, simple and fast platformer that was intuitive to play yet challenging to master that I recall spending many hours replaying to better my high scores. Regrettably, this remake is a shallow shadow of its former glorious self. Sure all the key ingredients return from the original such as the cartoony cutesy monsters to squash, secret passages, fast paced movement, fruit and coins aplenty yet this HD remake lacks any real enjoyment. Your character controls feels slippery (excuse the pun!) which often results in running off edges, misjumps and other such frustrating things. Many of the coin chain pickups cannot be timed at all to get all of them in one go, essentially stopping your momentum through the level and having to re-jump the same part over and over again if you want to get all the coins. Monsters seem to be placed in parts of the level just to frustrate you more rather than adding to the challenge, again slowing down the action. This is contrary to how the original played which felt faster and more fluid like Sonic or other such platformers achieve. The movement in HD when going full speed did give me a nauseated feeling too (something I have felt in FPS but never a platformer!) and the entire game is like it is in a zoomed in mode unless you hit a springboard when it zooms out to more the size of the original. This means you see less on the screen and makes it far harder to time jumps or see ahead. Sound effects and music throughout were incredibly average and uninspired - seemed like it could have been pulled from any generic platformer. To top this all off as well, the game would only recognise my Xbox 360 controller in the menus and not in the game meaning I had to play with the keyboard (yet another let down). Playing this version has tarnished my fond memories of the original. If you are going to rehash a classic game from the past much more effort needs to go in to ensure it captures the same 'feeling' the original game did (or simply do a decent port of the original to modern specs such as the classic Another World). Without this, you just come out of it feeling that this was a money grabbing attempt by Team17 preying on ol' school gamers childhood nostalgia. If this is what we can expect from remakes from Team17 I sincerely hope they never do a Project X HD!
