It's really great emotional story. Two hours of nice walking knowing tho story. One of the best walking simulators i've ever played. Beautifull graphics... Like those indie games made with love...

Once Alive is a the creation of a one-person team. Cem Boray Yildirim is the writer, the designer, the artist, and the programmer. He has done an amazing job, especially when one considers that he was not a professional game developer, by trade. His work is enhanced with a soothing original music score by Yagiz Oral. The game is walking simulation with some collectibles, some find-and-use inventory items to access new areas, and an abandoned landscape to explore. You play James, a young man in search of his family in a post-pandemic world. He travels to a 'survivor' settlement and discovers that no one is home. The journey then turns into a discovery of what happened to the settlement and to his brother and father. As you explore, the history of the place is revealed by shadowy reenactments and items you find laying about. There is no explicit save function but the game auto-saves at very regular intervals to multiple slots. Thus, when you restart, you can select the latest save or roll back to an earlier point in time. When you resume after time off, you may want to check your collectible count, as some may need to be revisited. This is easy to tell by your physical location when the game reloads. Achievements are story-based, with a couple of exceptions. If you explore every structure, collectibles are easy to find. And, if you find a basketball, practice makes perfect! This is a fairly short game that took me just under 2 1/2 hours to complete. I'm not sure why you would replay unless you were circling back for missed achievements. The story moves along nicely and follows a logical order if you progress through buildings in the order they are encountered. Walking is a bit slow and, as usual, I took full advantage of the 'run' key. I hope that Mr. Yildirim will continue with game development as he has done well on this first effort. Minor improvements might include having more environmental items to interact with and fine-tuning the facial expressions during cut scenes. There are only a couple of scenes with 'real people' conversing (as opposed to shadows people) and the facial movements are a bit disconcerting. If you are up for a long walk with an emotional story, I'd recommend Once Alive.
