Ignore the bad reviews, this software is fine and only has a few hiccups here and there. You will need to be 'savvy' with AI LLM models and how to setup frontends as well as backends. If you can use SillyTavern effectively you shouldn't have too many issues, and if you're patient, you can find guides to help you. Buy the bundle option. Let me tell you why. Desktop Mate is basically the v1.0 version of this app. It has a lot of the same features, but is missing the more advanced features like call tools to control emotions, AI response to 'touch' (clicking the avatar), and multiple character costumes that the AI has control of changing into. Desktop Mate is also less resource intense, and is what I would suggest you use if only on 16GB of RAM, as ChatWaifu's TTS software uses WAY more RAM (like 5 gigs.). Voices are vastly superior in English, on Chat Waifu using SOVITS though. Chat Waifu is actually the most impressive desktop vpet I've seen with options to run local LLMs as well as workshop support for 3rd party APIs such as OpenAI. The main reason you want the bundle when buying this game, is that installing Desktop Mate, then subbing to anything in the Workshop... will cause that content to show up in ChatWaifu as well. This gives you access to well over 1-2k models you can sub to and customize. Install LM Studio and use it to download your models, then import your own LLM into ChatWaifu, giving you access to any LLM that exists. If you have a machine with 32GB of ram, a Video card with at least 8GB (to run a decent 8b model) and are looking for "Anime Virtual Assistants" that handle all of your work.... loads. No updates, it has actually lost ground to Desktop Mate despite neither of them improving via development. If it reliably loaded models, it would be worth thrice the price easily.
