The game is super fun so far. Classes with different weapons make it fresh to redo runs that you have already finished and challenges give you something to do even if you have finished everything else.

There are better survivor games on Steam. This game is pretty fun at first but it's flaws become glaring the more you play. It does look pretty though.

Underwhelming gameplay that boils entirely down to "grind" and "run in a circle to avoid the enemies" - all with clunky and aggravating controls to match them. There is no real means of skill expression. I do not foresee any of my issues being addressed. Content is limited and what exists so far is not worth it for the price. There's not much else to say about this game because there's not that much to talk about. I do not recommend this game.

Difficult to recommend. It's pretty, a nice variation of the genre and I'm a big fan of Deep Rock Galactic. But it feel like the game constantly try to keep you at an acceptable power level and to slow your progress, and it's frustrating. You're always in a hurry. The wave timer is too short leading some maps to be a constant fight with one wave hitting you the moment the first end so you have little time to pick resources, and the boss timer at the end makes you miss half of the minerals. Combined with the stage system and a really grindy unlock system, you rarely end up feeling powerful and when it happen, it's quickly over, which is a big fail for this kind of game. Meta upgrades don't feel exciting (a few percents here and there), cool synergies rarely happen so you're left with a pretty, but bland game that constantly blue balls your average Vampire Survivors player. I want to like the game but I can't. It's pretty but graphics were never important.

I really wish Steam had a neutral option for recommendation because this game for me sits firmly there right now. The game is fun, and for early access it’s very polished but there are annoyances; mainly in reference to shooting/mining. There’s no aiming in this game, it’s all automated, as is firing and reloading. Mining is done by just moving towards the rocks/minerals. This gameplay is okay for the first hour or two but as soon as you unlock the “Gunner” class and use the minigun you start to see the flaws more. The minigun only fires at something in front of your character, so if you have a boss enemy chasing you, you need to stop and face them and it makes you unable to maintain your distance which results in cheap hits / deaths being sustained. The game NEEDS an option for Twin Stick Shooter controls. Because how it currently is, not being able to move and rotate your character at the same time feels cheap and clunky, and detracts from the overall experience, especially since there are weapons like the minigun that are reliant upon where your character is looking in reference to the enemies. Mining has a similar problem of you mine anything within a 180 view in front of your character. This becomes somewhat of a problem trying to make a train of enemies an funnel them into certain areas as the character often gets stuck deciding to mine when you just want to hug a wall - a symptom of the automatic nature of all the characters functions. Levelling up / unlocks that carry over is also a chore of an experience because the same currency/materials you use for levelling up during a run, is also used for the passive increases that you can unlock that carries over for all of your playing sessions. This means you often have to actively choose between leveling up during your run to be able to potentially beat it, or to save it for if you die or on the off chance you win, so you can then level up your passives. It’s idiotic. Overall the game is a fun experience but it’s definitely got its blemishes. I also haven’t seen if there is one yet since unlocking content is locked to arbitrary objectives in each level but this game is in desperate need of a “unlimited” / “horde” mode. If there isn’t one (and I haven’t found anything to indicate there is) it would be extremely disappointing.

Mid survivors. Gets stale pretty quickly, all it has going for it is the ip and digging which isn't even that fun after a while.

Absolutely need to thumbs up this game, it's a single stick shooter, which there seems to be no shortage of, but there's much more strategy and polish in this one. Plays excellent on the deck, with no crashes or tinkering to get it to work.

It's like playing Vampire Survivors with much nicer graphics and way less varied gameplay. Fun game though, very easy to control, just a tiny bit repetitive. I have only played like an hour of Deep Rock Galactic, so I don't really care that it's from that universe and I would still recommend it.

The re-play-ability on this top down horde shooter genre of a game is ridiculous! Despite only have a couple hundred hours, i binged this game so much when it first came out and you know a game is great when you go to bed and you keep thinking about how keen you are to play it the next day :) The updates have been amazing and this game is far too cheap for how good it is - It doesn't even need to be discounted - worth every penny. If you love the horde shooter genre then you're going to eat this up.

While I do enjoy DRG Survivor quite a bit, there are massive issues holding the game back and I feel the price increase was absolutely NOT justified. This negative rating is due to a variety of factors: 1. No multiplayer. The original DRG game is fully centered around cooperative play, working together as a team to clear missions... or goof off and "do a little bit of trolling". DRG Survivor has no multiplayer whatsoever, and the game feels like it'd be perfectly suited towards that, as the 4 different classes seme to synergize off each other well. Vampire Survivors offers 4 player local co-op and that game is an absolute blast. I love playing games with friends and I'd love to play this game with multiple people! But alas, solo only. 2. Grindy and repetitive. There is no variety in the gamemodes present, it is the same experience every time with various stat modifiers. Weapon masteries feel weird, you should start with the weapon already maxed out in power instead of needing to grind for stat boosts as a source of "content". 3. Lacking class identity. The 4 classes don't feel unique from one another and don't stand out like they did compared to the source game. Gunner and Scout feel nowhere near as cool or fun to play compared to Driller or Engineer; where the latter 2 classes support a unique pool of weapons, Gunner and Scout are just "stat boosts" for a class. Scout moves faster and has a chance to dodge enemy attacks, Gunner moves slower but wields a "heavy" weapon and has extra defense. Compared to the original DRG game, this is very disappointing considering all 4 classes in DRG felt super unique from one another and had their own playstyles. Grappling around as Scout was a blast, tossing a shield as Gunner felt amazing, but there's no real depth to Scout or Gunner in this game. Weirdly enough Gunner constantly gets weapons from other classes instead of using his own selection from the original game? Scout feels especially bland since all he is as a class is "move faster", no grappling hook, flare guns, or unique support / movement tool of any kind. Engineer is decently better as he has sentry guns to sport a more defensive lock-down playstle, and Driller has the best design for living up to his name and actually Drilling terrain quickly, which is what he did in the original DRG game. The lacking class identity hurts the replayability of this game and makes the grinding worse overall. 4. Poor weapon balance. There have been many complaints that some weapons underperform severely compared to the competition, making their weapon masteries way harder as a result. Game balance is important as good balance improves the difficulty curve and expands upon replayability and variety. The updates haven't really addressed balancing issues that much, so I doubt this will be addressed anytime soon. 5. No real skill expression. The strategy is just "run around by kiting the bugs in circles and cross your fingers you get good RNG." While that is the case for a good amount of roguelikes, it feels like the only way I ever win on decently challenging runs is to just kite the bugs and run away and hope I get good enough rolls and terrain generation to survive; there's no real planning or interesting setup to increase your chances at winning. A friend of mine brought this up as their main source for disliking this game and like what they said, these issues don't seem to be addressed for the foreseeable future. 6. The biggest one of all and the catalyst for me to make a negative review: The price increase. $10 USD was already a little steep in my opinion since there wasn't too much content to start with, and other roguelikes exists for around the same price with more content. Also, the lack of multiplayer was a big red flag for me since the original DRG game fully embraces coop. Now, the price has gone up from $10 to $13 USD, and the reason was "we added a lot of content". I fully disagree that they added enough content to justify the price going up, as there were only 4 content updates over the span of 11 months, and each update varied in how much content they brought to the table. Probably the biggest update was update 3, which gave us anomaly dives and weapon mastery, but that was just more grindy content added on top of an already grindy core gameplay loop. Even still, this is extra content at the end of the day, but no other developer I've seen has increased the price of their game because they "released a decent amount of content". Not even a year later and the game gets a 33% price increase, and this is on top of the game not being out of Early Access AND still lacking any multiplayer whatsoever. Why should I support a game and company when they decide they are "justified" in increasing the price of their games solely because they added content that matched the content output of other games? If you felt the need to charge your players more, why not release cosmetic DLC to have your most passionate fanbase pay you more money to support your team? Many games have this system where their revenue comes from paid cosmetics and I think that's fine! This is especially scummy because you praised your community for nominating your game for the steam awards and also slipped in the price increase in the same announcement post. You're essentially hiding the fact that you are increasing the price of your games to those who planned on buying it at the $10 price point. Sure, the game goes on sale back to $10, but my point is that they developers were essentially trying to hide the fact they are increasing the cost of a game that didn't feel earned in its price going up, especially compared to other games in the survivor / rougelike genre. As it stands, when games go on sale, DRG and DRG Survivor are both just under $10, to which your money is much better spent on DRG, as that game has 4 player coop, modding support, less grindy content, way better class identity, and doesn't feel the need to upcharge the price of their base game because they added more content over time. If you want a top down survivor roguelike, just play Vampire Survivors instead, as that game has actual multiplayer in the form of 4 player local coop, is priced for only $5, is better balanced, has a better variety of weapons, and has amazing DLC content! DRG Survivor just screams incompetency, as a huge fan of Deep Rock Galactic and as an avid enjoyer of Vampire Survivors I am very dissapointed this game lacks multiplayer AND feels the need to upcharge the price not even a year later after it's release. Who's to say they won't upcharge it even more to something like $20 or even $30 after 2 years? At this rate that very well might be true. I cannot recommend this game in good faith because the price increase only tells me the developers care about their profits instead of their playerbase and community.
