Glypha: Vintage Reviews
A fast-paced, Egyptian-themed jousting tournament recalls 1980's classic arcade action. Glypha is a rewrite of the classic shareware game from the early B&W Macintosh days. Smoother, faster, and harder than you remember.

Love it... I'm so happy to see a classic Mac game on Steam. This version is very smooth and effectively conjures up the memories.

Great nostalgic blast from the past. Would love to see Glider re-released as well.

I grew up playing Glypha III, so when I stumbled upon Glypha: Vintage, I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough. This version of Glypha looks and plays amazingly, and I concur with other reviews saying that this is the definitive edition of Glypha. I was initially a little off-put by the black and white graphics because I had mainly played Glypha III, and also off-put by the jerkier walking animation and slower walkspeed, but I got used to them all very quickly, and I think the black and white graphics were the perfect choice. And I even enjoy the slower walkspeed because it forces me to rely less on walking and do more short hops to accomplish the same thing, and I enjoy that higher execution requirement.
My only criticism is more of a qualitative one, that it feels like I rack up extra lives a bit quickly. However, in the context of how difficult the game becomes when you get yourself into real trouble, the number of extra lives is more like an HP meter than a number of lives, so I think the difficulty balances out just fine with the extra lives. I also think a Steam high score leaderboard would be a lot of fun, but it doesn't take anything away not having one right now.
Thank you for breathing new life into Glypha, and adding a new chapter. This is not just a nostalgia game - it is legitimately fun to play present day, and is more than deserving of its asking price for the effort that clearly went into it. And see John's post in the discussion page for more details on what went into it. It's a great writeup. Thanks again!

Saw this and nearly screamed outright as I windmill slammed the Add to Cart. I spent HOURS playing this on my Uncle's Mac in 1990, likely not long after it first launched. My sister and I would compete to see who could beat each others' scores, whooping at every victory and groaning at every loss. In many ways, this was my first true computer game, and remains one of my fondest to this day. A gem from an era long passed. Well worth the rock bottom asking price and wonderfully addictive.

Great update of the shareware game which was a unique take on the arcade game Joust

Best Joust clone ever, now no longer confined to classic Macs, though I don't remember it being this hard! Pretty much a perfect port, but one suggestion: ditch the ugly bilinear filter for nearest neighbor, or integer; the blur does a disservice to the pixel art.

Excellent rewrite of one of the most classic old mac games by the same author. You could probably consider this to be the definitive edition. Even has achievements and controller support.
Only thing I'd love to see is a color option as I spent most of my time playing the second title back in the day :)

Excellent game, very smooth. I never played the Mac version, but Joust on the Atari was one of my favourite games, even with those stiff joysticks.
I like how this new version feels and also the AI of the bad birds. They are kinda smart.
I would give this game 7/10 only because of what I missed the most from the old Atari Joust, the multiplayer. This version doesn't have that. I imagine having 4 human players and a couple of AI birds would be a blast!

To be honest, this isn't my favorite game from John Calhoun, but after booting it up I reawakened childhood memories of playing this from a 600-in-one shareware disc, so I probably owe John the $4 from that.

Best version of Glypha of all time. The fluid movement of modern machines takes it to the level it has always deserved, ever since it appeared on our Mac screens in 1990.
