A fun little game. Now, a caveat first: Don't expect to manage any movie sets or stage design as in... other games of the movie management type. The Executive is more abstract, but that makes gameplay smoother and more focussed and was IMHO a good design decision. It is a brilliant game that keeps you engaged, has enough choices to be interesting and an interesting progression mechanic. I really love the idea of meta-progress. (fun fact: I've been working on a new game myself for a few months with a similar progression idea). The game focusses on what matters - the tycoon and movie aspects. And it does so very well. I've played one game until the end now and I loved going from small to blockbuster studio, establishing franchises, buying and selling IP, etc. All thumbs up, if you like movies and/or tycoon games, give this one a try.

The game is fun at first, but it gets boring quickly. The developers should add more features to keep it interesting. An advantage of this game is the Steam Workshop. There may be only a few mods now, but I hope there will be more in the future. In my opinion, the developers should add a feature for film sponsorships. This way, we could get sponsors for our films, but it would come with consequences — for example, the film might be less interesting or result in a loss of prestige. They could also add special events where we could announce the cast, the director, or the premiere date to the public."

Great if you love management If management is not your genre, this isn't ground breaking, so give it a miss.

Great game in itself and for nostalgics of Game Dev Tycoon like myself!

Really wanted to like this game as the concept is exactly the type of movie game I was looking for. In essence, this is a clone of Game Dev Tycoon with a tad more complexity. In execution, I ground on the small office cycle for 10 in game years, won two "Romy" awards for best picture of the year, and still couldn't make enough money to be net positive. The grind of this game feels like it was meant to be a free pay2win cell phone game with no resources available to actually improve. I was also playing on easy mode too. If you have infinite time, I may recommend it because the concept is there. However, in two hours I was net negative $10m following the tutorial perfectly with not one rotten movie produced. Asked for a refund since I don't have infinite time.

I played Blockbuster inc when it first came out and it was a pile of slop. This game is one of my favorites it's worth the price, The research tab is super easy to understand everything is easy to understand I didn't know how this game worked when I did my first play through about the time it released but I have come to understand it and it makes it even better. Great game easy to understand and fun to learn and fun to play.

Where to begin.... This is a good game, a solid 5 out of 10. I bought this game because I've had a desire to play a hollywood movie sim that is similar to the play style of the game Software Inc. If you haven't played Software Inc. go try it, you'll enjoy it. I'm going to share a few good and bad things that I have found based on my game play over the last 16 hours. I caveat what I am about to say but stating this, I don't typically write reviews for games, I think I have written out maybe 4 out of the few hundred I have played on my account. Here is the good in my opinion. The game flows well, very simple but enjoyable content. It looks good given there is no movement associated with you office screen and there really isn't much of anything going on except for when you select your different menus and options when creating your movies. The fact this game is open to workshop mods is great. Here are the things I don't really like about the game. Its too short in its play thru. The time moves by too quickly, I would rather see a calendar that is broken down to days and an actual clock to and realistic pace to the game. I understand some may not want that, but having the option for a fast game compared to a I want to grind out 500 hours over the next 5 months of creating a movie production empire starting in the 1950's going into the 1960's. I've played 16 hours and have already basically beat the game on a mid level difficulty. It honestly takes way too long to get a real production studio going. By the time you really establish you company you're hitting the early to mid 90's and you're still way behind the curve compared to all the other companies out there. I want to be competing in the 60's and 70's in this game and I'm okay only releasing a couple films in those early years. But If I want to have all the employees I need to run a studio, I can't pack my company with 20 producers and just make whatever I want in the amount that I want. If this game starts in the 70's, why can't I have a crew of up to 100 and be producing 20 films a year. I hate to compare games but if this game was anything like Software Inc. it would be amazing. The ability to physically build studios, sets, send crews out to location shoots, interview directors and actors. Hire on actors for multi-picture deals or do the same for directors. Maybe expand your studio and hire a full time company to support your sound development. Collaborate with other studios on major projects like you would in real life. There is so much you could do with a game like this I just don't quite understand why it hasn't been done yet with so many independent developers out there along with development studios. Give me an actual sandbox to build structures and offices and sets and create schedules around projects to make sure the large sets are switched in time for different builds for films. Like I said, this is a good game, but it could be so so much better in so many ways. I bought the game in hopes that my support will lead so maybe more coming from this game, and I honestly hope it does. If not I will chalk this game up to so many others that are good ideas turned into "I don't have the time" or "I just wanted money" developers. There are more than enough reasons to purchase this game and challenge yourself in different ways either financially or to limit yourself to only producing very specific genres of films. Role play in whatever way you want with this and it would be enough to enjoy for a few hours. But as it stands this is not a 100+ hour game in its current state....honestly its probably not even a 50+ hour game unless some great mods start to make their way to the workshop. I would recommend buying this game but beware it won't take long before you're asking for more and realizing its not there and you end up walking away from it. 5/10 would recommend

The game is very fun but I really dislike the way IPs are implemented. Instead of being able to have multiple franchises inside of each IP à la MCU or DCU, you can only put one franchise inside of each IP. I really don't see the point of the IP feature and it seems to only serve as an extra title for your franchise. It would be much cooler if you could house multiple franchises inside of each IP, allowing you to create multiple movie series that exist under the same IP and universe. I'm also unable to create Spinoffs even though I've fulfilled all the requirements for it.

It's enjoyable enough and I got some solid hours out of it, but it really felt a bit lacking after the first two hours or so. Once you unlock the ability to re-distribute films from your archive, you don't really have to worry about money anymore and you find yourself basically just doing the same thing over and over by releasing films without much thought behind them. The unlockables become a bit pointless because at some point, you're basically just printing money. There is no satisfaction in adding expensive features to your films because ultimately, you can still achieve the same ratings by releasing a small or medium budget film that hits on the right formula with the right trends. I went into this expecting a bit more depth because I'm a fan of Game Dev Tycoon, but that game seems to have a bit more depth (eg. having to adapt to new technologies as time progresses). Here, the process of releasing a movie in the 70s is virtually no different than releasing a movie in the end game (2010s). It feels pretty lifeless in the end game and I had no desire to continue playing by the time I got to 2020. There's no real incentive to grow as a studio unless you really care about a high score, ultimately. Winning an Oscar (or the equivalent award in the game) is nothing but a pop-up that says congrats. It doesn't give you a sense of accomplishment or prestige. There's a lot of potential here, but I just don't see how they'll add that kind of depth between now and final release. For the price, I don't recommend this game. I bought it on sale for $9.74 and I guess for the amount of hours I got out of it, I can't complain, but I wouldn't say I was satisfied by the time I was done with it.

I wanted to like this game. I like Game Dev Tycoon and a big fan of the Movie Games (2006). I feel like its lacking content and the grind is more frustrating than rewarding. I would get it on sale but not full price.
