This game has been pretty awesome. Its like an Traditional ATB RPG. But it is also an MMORPG, and has some elements of Monster Rancher, Pokemon, Digimon, Final Fantasy, and Jade Cacoon rolled into one game.

It's been quite a long time since I've been involved with a project of such humble origins, or at least have managed to be present for those origins. Fantasy World Souls is nothing if not raw potential being gradually shaped; right now, it's loosely a fairly standard RPG Maker game, but online and with a small monster tamer component-- you'll find Souls scattered throughout the world to add to your team and modify. The rest of it is a fairly standard RPG: progress between towns and dungeons, solving problems and getting stronger as you go. You'll choose from one of nine classes to start but be witnessing the story as though it's from only one of those class' perspectives. It's... I mean, look, I specified humble beginnings.
It's definitely... using standard RPG Maker assets. I think at this point in my gaming career, it's almost refreshing to see something so candid. Most things are constantly trying to hide shortcomings, but Fantasy World Souls is somehow unabashed about what it is, both good and bad. This makes me feel almost poorly for criticising it; this is very much somebody shaping their idea piece by piece, so the art is an ongoing process. And the dev is active on their Discord and listens to suggestions, I've had my own acknowledged and implemented so I'm pretty content to have invested at this stage of the game's growth.
It's still hungry for a lot of features. And a polished sheen on the script. And some unique spritework. And a lot of things, really, not the least of which will be-- at some point, I imagine-- a totally new coat of paint and even a possible rebrand. But where we are now are the humble roots of something greater, and so I can heartily stamp this with a recommendation for its very modest price point and the at-least-worth-playing RPG here. Then again, online turn-based RPGs are always a soft spot for me.

Needs some more time in the oven, might be gas. Thought I could play through it with my friend but I really couldn't figure out how, even beat the first dungeon but I thought we could play together we could really just be next to eachother. Idk.
Maybe im just bad.

Harsh entry requirement for what it is, but is actively updated and supported.
Also, don't let Steam fool you, controller *IS* usable !
EDIT: There is now a free version of the game on GOG. This retracts my statement about the harsh entry price, as now the price is another way to support the creator..!

More of a slot machine than a video game.
Insanely P2W if you don't want to spend literal thousands of hours grinding out fights for "diamonds". There's a reason the game is being given out for free: whale hunting.
People play what looks to be a great concept of a game (multiplayer jrpg, sounds amazing!). But you don't find out till you're some ways in that if you want to get your character as strong as possible, you're looking at spending several HUNDREDS of dollars or several THOUSAND hours of grinding out the premium currency needed for upgrades. No exaggeration. If any doubt about what I say, just look into the premium currencies/services for sale through in game or discord.
I don't know exactly what game could get me to drop several hundred dollars, but this ain't the one. It's a shame that it looks so promising but becomes indistinguishable from a typical mobile gatcha game.
And to anyone that disagrees with ANYTHING posted above, please say what exactly you find to be false. I find it ludicrous that anyone can describe the game as "not at all p2w" when you are literally given the choice of grinding 1,000+ hours or simply paying $200 if you wish to fully upgrade a character...not p2w my @$$.

I've always been a big fan of classic JRPG's, especially Final Fantasy. This game hits home with nostalgia - the old school turn-based level grind, story, exploration - it's there. The Souls system has a nice spin on it too where it feels like Pokemon in a way and although many are obtained through the gatcha system, "P2W" doesn't really exist here, as diamonds can be farmed and generated while you're AFK in a meditation room.
The community on Discord is helpful and talkative, especially the games creator, who frequents the chat daily. There are new enhancements on what seem like a weekly basis, such as the upcoming evolution system revamp, migrating to a new server, and more. Loving it presently and looking forward to seeing it evolve!

Ok, I'm very impressed that this ended up being a solid good game. It's kinda of a crossbreed between the classic Final Fantasy... maybe IV and a monster taming game. You have multiple characters you can use called Leaders and they can wield souls (the monsters you use) as your party. The game has an action house of sorts where players can sell stuff to each other, and the game has a premium currency that you can get just by playing (but you can also pay for it) to use for summoning new souls, leaders and cards which are... items, I guess? Anyway to story is ok, the game is charming, the ideas are solid, and the price is fair. I give this one 8/10 for whats being proposed. Gonna keep playing for the time being, you can find me online as Tife.

I don't know why the indie games always have the most delusional reviews but this game has very glaring issues.
Firstly, the new player experience is horrendous if you want to co-op. Every low level area is a ghost town, with most players being hundreds or even a thousand levels above you. But even when they invite you, there's a 50% chance the invite won't pop up on your screen, forcing one or both players to relog.
Don't let the $5 price tag fool you, this game is pay to win. The best summons are pay ONLY. You can pay for double item drop chance, double gem regain, exp(level cap is 1500 lol). You can even pay $150 for a starting character with custom abilities..... Even most mobile gacha games aren't this bad.
