I was looking for a solid racing game for my OLED 1tb Steam Deck after discovering Burnout: Paradise, one of my absolute favorites, had a myriad of issues with the Steam Deck. I took my chances with Wreckfest and it payed off immensely. I am running most graphic settings on high, the text is legible, and most importantly the game runs like butter. I’m averaging 45-60 FPS pushing the higher settings, and it looks realistic. Extremely vibrant, detailed, and the physics engine is insane. You can even choose from several wreck physics to do minimal or “realistic” damage to vehicles in races and derbies. Wreckfest is packed with races, tournaments, and derbies. There are a ton of upgrades for each vehicle, and there are a lot of vehicles to choose from. Even lawn mowers. Wreckfest has dirt, gravel, mud, and asphalt tracks. You can tune the vehicle’s suspension, tires, brakes, ect to help you get more acceleration on shorter tracks, better top speed for straight tracks, grip the track more in gravel and mud, and it’s actually very impressive how helpful and immersive it is. Winning (or losing) races and tournaments give you credits to spend on car parts and customization items, parts unlocks, and XP to level up. The levels you gain are to gain access to better vehicles, parts upgrades, and races. I am glad I gave Wreckfest a test drive, because it is absolutely worth it.

The best derby game out there. The crashes are cool and hilarious. The only issues are the old guys that play that target you because they want to "race clean" in WRECKFEST

I found this game to be surprisingly disappointing given its potential. The handling feels sluggish, the pacing is slow, and most importantly, it lacks fun. Unfortunately, it becomes repetitive and unengaging rather quickly. For a more exciting and enjoyable experience, I would highly recommend playing 'FLATOUT 2' and if you haven't tried it, get it!
Developers how did you fail here ? you already had a winning formula with Flatout 2, you only had to improve on that but instead made a joyless impostor. Lets hope Wreckfest 2 is an improvement, oh and bring back the nitro!

This is the best racing game ever made. It's crunchy, heavy, aggressive, and packed with content. I finished career mode long ago, but I'll never stop popping in for a quick custom race. It just looks, feels, and sounds great to play.

Great variety of vehicles and tracks with nice vehicle customization. Driving feels 6/5 at least on with my G29 steering wheel. One of the best racing games imo.

Great fun very realistic been playing for years. Other players are OK to play with. Keep in mind rub ins racing is what its about. Mostly everybody behaves themselves. But as always if you are lucky enough to take out the winner expect to be taken out. Usually they have their own team with them. But all in all very fun most people are relay nice to play with. An questions just ask. most will explain the rules of any server you are playing on. I would recommend the game give it a 9 out of 10.

Simply put, it's the only non-simulation racing game worth playing those days.
I've tried ALOT of things. Arcade racing is dead, but you still have some twitchy corpses laying about. Most games fall into one or several of those categories :
- Lazy mobile port
- Unpredictable, unreliable physics that make driving random
- Rally stages but they don't even last a minute
- Poorly optimized, make Cyberpunk 2077 look like it runs on a potato, while making Space Invaders look next gen
- It's Forza, or a copy of Forza, or it tries really hard to not be Forza
- Disgusting dollar bin asset flip
- Lies about what it is, like it has a solo tag but must be played online, or says open world but doesn't have open world at all
But then you have Wreckfest. While the handling is definetely arcade-y, it's reliable, predictable. It's a shame this had to be mentionned but nowadays it's something you definetely cannot say about all racing games. Its destruction physics is second only to BeamNG (granted, it is fairly behind, but still). It looks decent, especially considering it's now 7 years old. It runs well on rigs that would have been average when it was released.
And most importantly, it's doing its own thing, and it's doing it right. It's not FlatOut crazy, but it's crazy enough. It has some variety. Cars are rather unremarkable visually, but they all have their own identiy and use on the track. You can drive a motorized couch, or cause mayhem with a harvester.
It's a pretty niche genre, but it's doing everything right in that genre. While there are shit tons of games out there which are all pretentious and "we are the next big thing", use excessive superlative words, and fall short of even being remotely good, like :
- That one rally game with charming retro graphics that is a mobile port and suffers from so much grip it's not fun to drive at all.
- That one rally game where the absolute longest race is less than 4 km, and pretty much every stage can be completed under a minute because apparently devs believe it's fun. If I wanted shit to last less than a minute I'd be watching TikTok.
- That russian-jank clone of FlatOut that also has "out" in the name, but can't even make its interface work, or let a car turn where the wheels are pointing.
- That rally game (yes, again) endorsed by a legendary champion, but driving is ass, interface is ass, car settings are reset each race, and generlly speaking it's really bad.
- That sequel of a sequel of a game that UbiSoft closed (which sparked a worldwide movement against that sort of shit), which tries to copy Forza with its festival thing but also adds playlists that require you to buy a car to enter it but won't let you use YOUR car to play it, and a truckload of other stupid ideas.
But Wreckfest ? Wreckfest delivers. It does exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less. And it's god damn fun.
