This was my first RTS game, and is the game I compare other RTS games to. Company of Heroes is the gold standard of the genre.

Before there were the AOE series, Warcraft/Starcraft and the C&C/RA series, with other titles added. COH came and added a whole new level of immersion, with cover, unit weak points and other aspects to RTS ahead of its time. The storyline, unit balance and different army playstyles makes this a timeless classic, one I'm still playing to this day

Brilliant game with a higher than average risk of crashing in the most unfortunate moment.

This game makes you feel like a tactical genius right up until your squad walks into an ambush and gets obliterated in two seconds. You’ll carefully position your troops, plan the perfect attack… and then a random tank rolls in and crushes both your strategy and your soul.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this game for many years now. One of the best RTS games to date... frustrating, intense, and ridiculously fun.
I will rate this one at a 8/10.

This is my comprehensive review about Company of Heroes:
For a game released in 2006 I was quite impressed with the overall experience. The game is easy to understand but hard to master, not to a degree of frustration but to a fair and rewarding experience. For example: Exposing the rear armor of your vehicle to an AT gun or another vehicle means it will be toast and that would be your own miss micromanagement. Cover, attacking all works flawlessly. And so do the territory style of gameplay. I was always a fan of the history behind both WW and seeing an RTS exploring this concept in such a magnificent way was something I was craving for. Mod support and community support has been amazing so far. Relic went as far as breaking the 3rd wall, offering you not only Allied focused related campaigns but also Axis related campaigns. When many WWII games only focuses on the Allied side of things, Relic gets spectactularly away with some good storytelling about the Axis side of things and what these soldiers might have thought about the war with the Allies. I got this game on sale but what is there to say? Sale or not it is highly recommended for anyone craving both a new RTS and a WWII focused game. It is simply amazing.

i am having a hard time of finding the fun inside the game. i find it often boring and tedious, it feels more like work than playing. the gameplay feels unrewarding. units feel unresponsive. firefights are taking very long, especially when units are in cover.
they invented some mechanics i've not seen in other rts games like directional alignment of units and vulnerable backs of tanks and so on but this alone makes no great game.

The premier WWII experience for me, the vanilla game and campaign itself is spectacular, and the cherry on top is that there are also fan-made, historically accurate mods that enhances that experience even more, (shout-out to Battle of the Bulge, Immersion 1944!), in spite of its age, this game is worth every penny and a legend of the RTS genre.
