this game is very fun and all around never empty of suprises. Wether it be from a bricktron flying across your screen or they simply wanna break on you. its still very fun nonetheless.

So here's the short TLDR:
The game is okay, but so many things could be WAY better! Don't buy it at full price. It's not worth it.
Long version:
Tutorial barely covers anything in the game up to equipping your guys with weapons. It doesn't cover the important parts like capturing other crystals so you can advance or some of the finer points.
The text is so small you have to play the game on a SUPER low resolution just so you can read it. I'm talking like 1028x768 resolution. The devs said 6 years ago it was on their to-do list to fix it but from what I understand based on updates it's not receiving anymore that the development is dead and it's never going to improve.
Next, the modes of play. There's Sandbox, a mode that has NO enemies. Kinda pointless to do anything really cause there's no challenge, though it's good to practice on.
Next is Invasion, a mode where you get hit with wave after wave of enemies increasing in difficulty each time.
Then there's conquest, a version where your objective is basically to capture every crystal which if you let the enemy get the majority of them because you don't have a clue how to capture them yourself, then you're screwed with again, wave after wave of each one increasing in difficulty.
Next, you can't pause and select anything. So no strategic stuff. If you make a mistake you have to figure out how to fix it. Next, you have to micromanage everything, setting up a task to clean up, repair, and do anything except stand by your heart crystal. In addition to this, you have to have like 600 storages cause each one only holds 4 items and, even if you set it to keep it empty or put something else on it, they don't listen. Then there's the fact that the ONLY way to get stone bricks is to let them autoconvert, which of course blocks your stone storage. If you want to clear it you can, one brick at a time and you have to do it manually.
Lastly, the building items are inside a scrollable window which, when you scroll, zooms your screen in and out in addition to scrolling (extremely slowly) through the list of buildables. Of course, you could drag the scroll bar down, if it wasn't so paper thin that you can barely select it instead of building something you don't want to build because you have to left click.
All in all, the game isn't worth it's full price. I'm sorry I didn't wait for a sale.

i wanted to love the game and really bought it for all my friends because the game was on sale so we can play together only to find out it has no online multiplayer anymore, like why do you have online pvp and online coop when is is no more online like its been years and its not taken out the online category, other than that i think the game was fun but the fact i spent a decent amount of money for me and my friends to get this game for it to be basically single-player, and I`ve tried finding solutions to it using Radmin vpn and tried using Hamachi and it still doesn't work

Sauropod studios seemed to shut down somewhere in 2019, but they also shut down Mirador around 2022, so they still exist, despite laying off their entire team. (Mirador was their second game, made around 2019 and continued service [not updates] until 2022, when all the servers were shut down and the game was taken off the steam store page.) When they made that announcement however, they mentioned that Castle Story would still be available to play, online and offline, which is strange, they clearly do remember that this game exists, but as a two man team they likely cant do anything, cant afford it, or just don't care, of them all, nobody can say for sure.
All I really know is that this game did have something really special about it, I miss it. But these things happen and there is not a lot we can do, they got a lot of money on Kickstarter to make this game, and it still ended up tumbling away. If you want to know more, read the Wikipedia page about this game. (yes it has one)
