Quick and dirty summary for those that, just like me, didn't play Necrosmith 1.
What will you play?
You assemble undead monsters and send them around, collecting resources, getting upgrades and attacking enemy camps or defending your tower, trying to survive as long as possible, with limited time. You have three maps with perhaps unreasonable difficulty spike between each of them, few types of incremental upgrades to purchase (mostly revolving around few spells you have and getting more monster parts to build), and you just keep going at it again and again, with a "story" to tie it all together. On each map, you get a one time objective, and after you finish it, any other consecutive round will just be you trying to survive for as long as possible and grinding for gold for your upgrades. I like Alawar - they make cheap, but quirky and fun games, but some are certainly better than others. Necrosmith 2, for example, I find to be disappointing. The game starts up strong, but ultimately, the gameplay is lackluster, and the only thing that's keeping you in are new unlocks and upgrades to buy, but it's a pointless numbers game - you buy higher tier stuff to keep up with stronger enemies, but the gameplay remains as basic as it was in the first level. You look around the map, you send monsters to collect resources (you can control them, but for the most part, you don't want to do that) and fight, while you try to manage your resources to survive. The game is dirt cheap, and for 3 euros, you will get few hours of fun. But you will quickly get bored of it, and realize there is nothing, absolutely nothing else in there. I could criticize the AI, the simplicity, perhaps even the art, but all of these things are individual parts of a larger problem - the game gets boring fast, and nothing you will unlock will change that. Your monsters are stupid, the enemy is stupid as well (there is zero strategy, "enemies", if you can call the builds that, just send line of enemies straight at you) and this just started bothering me the longer I've played. I don't care about the new monsters, if they pretty much behave similarly to what I already unlocked in the previous map - I'll use whatever had the highest stats I can afford, but I hardly had to change my strategy to "adapt", etc. They might have new effects, but that's about it. The bosses look cool, you have your own powerful creatures to assemble, but again, the gameplay is extremely basic. Compared to something like HOMAM3, completely different game, but I would absolutely care about what kind of troops I would be carrying with me, because they had significantly different abilities. Here, it's really just about numbers, everything else is a facade. Unlike other games like Wall World, I didn't find the gameplay in this one that stimulating - and because it doesn't evolve through every round you play, I have to say, I have lost interest. I had fun with the game, but ultimately, I won't be finishing it.

Good story, gameplay not new but still good, 8/10. Would love to have some autofill feature, or way to unlock secret recipes without looking them up (there are ~400 I think?)

art style looks nice, UI is decent but gameplay is pretty mediocre.

It's a fun concept implemented reasonably well. I had a blast, and really hope more content is added so I can take things a bit further. Really not even a question as to whether it's worth it at the price point. Definitely give it a go.

The game is too short, only three not very large levels and one mixed one larger. The main story and achievements go by quickly, but you're left with grinding for all the artifacts, since you don't need most of them and you can only use 4 and upgrade everything in the tower, but unfortunately it's too expensive and useless. The game is not very difficult compared to the first part and before you have unlocked or upgraded everything you have already gone through the story. And all that remains is mindless grinding. The negative review is that there are bugs and the game often lags or slows down. This problem has been around for a long time and has not been solved. It is worst on the second map. Also, enemy titans appear too often near your base and death on the second level does not occur when you destroy all enemy bases. One of the achievements requires you to die from the hand of a boss on the second level, but if you defeat him once, he doesn't appear again and you can miss the achievement by mistake. Maybe with a discount the game isn't bad but the lag is terrible and there's too much mindless grinding and the last titan you unlock is complete garbage.

To start, Necrosmith 2 feels like the first game on half-time. The movement of in game troops, alongside the slowly animated UI and the requirement to press multiple buttons to make selection choices is increasingly atrocious. For instance, having to press two buttons to confirm building structures: In the first game, resources were gained fast enough that building was actually fun and happened at a quick enough pace that a confirmation button was practically useless. That, alongside the resource collection speed makes this game's building system feel like being stuck in the mud. The movement and in turn resource collection speed of the troops is really the main point of contention for me. However, the progression -- while not as bad, also feels extremely sluggish. There is practically no replay-ability because of how painfully slow the games is -- you find yourself not wanting to play a map more than a few times, yet the progression seems to be reliant on it. Each successful run is 30 minutes long at minimum, and in the first game that was not only enjoyable, but also made the lack of a save option tolerable. I don't want to spend an hour watching slow moving troops and slow spell reset timers tick up only to have to do something else outside of the game and leave my computer running for hours. Necrosmith 2 is simply not as engaging and feels like a serious downgrade from the previous game. I've played this game significantly longer than 2.5 hours -- there's no wifi on car rides.

I love this game so much and really want to recommend it, however after 8 hours of play, the game has become unplayable. It freezes my PC every time I load into a game and nothing has been able to fix it. Since it is now unplayable for me and may also become unplayable for others, I cannot recommend this game until that issue is resolved. If anyone knows how to fix it, I'm all ears. I've already scoured the forums.

Though I saw it in other reviews, I decided that people were overreacting and bought the game. The inability to quit+save mid run is awful, the runs are quite long and you're stuck with the option of quit or be stuck playing for a very long time. If not for that, this game would get a thumbs up, but it's bad enough that by itself it earns a thumbs down. Otherwise a fairly fun game, I suppose. Update. I played a bit more. Apparently if you take too long on a level it sends a reaper that instakills you. This reaper cannot be killed, and can kill anything and everything you have (I checked the forums, it's unbeatable). I have no idea why. Enjoying the progress then unstoppable death seems kind of antifun.
