I've played a boatload of great detective/mystery games in my life, Daemon Masquerade is among my favourites. Judging from the reviews i was worried it was a little short, but its kinda perfect.
Very funny game with very compelling deductive gameplay that a) doesn't hold your hand, and b) isn't frustratingly difficult or abstract.

Daemon Masquerade is an excellent puzzle game that puts you in the shoes of an isolated detective, locked in their room, akin to a faceless L from Death Note (before his reveal). The game has you using a red thread to make connections between different pieces of evidence, making you truly feel like you're doing the detective work. There's a great level of harmony between the character you play as, the mechanics you use and the intentional deciphering you you must use to solve each linked case.
There's a high level of detail in the game, making reference to many historical figures or events of the past, and tying them all in to the crazy rich, chaotic lore of the game. Which brings the other element that separates this from a typical detective game.. Here, you are thrown into a supernatural masquerade of back-stabbing consequences, where each case involves an enemy or competitor with their very own ante-diluvian daemon whose power ripples through the history of humanity. Now that's a large sentence with a lot of moving parts, but that's how the detail of the game works. And it works astoundingly!
So if you're ready for a hell of a chaotic puzzle game, I highly recommend Daemon Masquerade. It's clearly a labour of love by the solo game dev / illustrator, and any of feelings of rawness are shorn off by the intensity to detail, fun thread mechanics, and unique hand-drawn art.

As other have said, it scratches the Golden Idol/Roottree/Obra Dinn itch!
There is a particular compendium you have to wade through, and I think this would work better in a physical medium where you can splay information out rather than "click entry > read entry > click back > click next entry". It can feel a little overwhelming when it's first dumped on you and you're not 100% sure what information is relevant or not.
I ended up liking the format of "you don't have all the information yet, but there's no pressure to solve everything before the final day", because it made information much more digestible. But initially, I was hesitant to advance to the next day in case I was going to be punished for it.
Overall, I'm really glad I played this, and I hope Callum makes more treats like this!

This is a simply incredible investigation/induction/deduction game, with so much heart poured into it. The art, the design, the music and sound effects, all of it made a deep impression on me. The plot is genuinely gripping, from the first couple seconds I wanted to know more, to solve all of the mysteries (ignore my playtime, I finished the game elsewhere before buying it). The mysteries themselves are deeply clever and simply fun to engage with and learn more about (the Book was a masterstroke). I would recommend this game to everyone looking for this kind of experience: it's simply one of the best.
