It's more difficult than American Truck Driver because of the amount of Metal fencing along the roads. Miss a turnoff and you have to drive to the next town and that could be as much as one and a half hours away. You cant just do a U-turn across the highway like you can in American Trucker because of the fencing. I have become very adept at reversing if I miss a turnoff. Also you can't make huge profits in this game and wherever you go there are toll booth everywhere.

I haven't put many hours into this, but I've logged a decent amount of hours in the American version. I imagine it's very similar in gameplay, except I would drive on the other side of the road and dodge oncoming traffic a lot more.

I put 11 hours on this game within the first day of purchasing this game, my friends and family worry for me but they don't know what my purpose is, I myself have only a faulty grasp upon it, yet the truck gods above will guide me just as my GPS does during a storm and they will keep me going just as my tires do.

I used to think that only action-packed games like GTA could bring me joy, but this game proved that I don't know myself as well as I thought.

Got the demo for this game over a decade ago because I thought it would be funny to laugh at a game where you follow traffic laws It ended up being really fun, so when i got a better PC I bought the full game A few years later American Truck Simulator came out, and I IMMEDIATELY got it so I could drive in my country fast forward SEVERAL years and with almost 600 hours between both games, I decided to get my CDL this game that I downloaded for the lols literally was what kickstarted me to becoming an actual trucker (this is a little better than real life though because I can turn off getting speeding tickets and if I get in a head on collision at 150kmph I just reload my last autosave)

You either love or hate ETS2, but it's a great choice for a relaxing gaming experience where you can simply follow navigation. The game's base map may be limited, and DLCs can be pricey, but they don't cover everything you might expect. The extra Trucks and Trailers still have to be bought seperately. Overall I would say this doesn't limit you much and you can still enjoy the game with just the base version. And I even still have the original Retail-Version with the Disc... I don't have a Discdrive anymore though...

🛣️ Introduction At first glance, Euro Truck Simulator 2 might seem like a niche title. After all, it's “just a truck driving game,” right? But after hundreds of hours on the road — hauling freight through the mountains of Switzerland, navigating the rain-slicked autobahns of Germany, and cruising past the rolling fields of Poland at sunrise — I can confidently say that ETS2 is one of the most relaxing, immersive, and oddly therapeutic games I've ever played. 🌍 World Design and Map Expansion ETS2’s base map already gives you a large slice of Europe, but with map DLCs (like Going East, Scandinavia, Iberia, Road to the Black Sea, and Beyond the Baltic Sea), the continent becomes a sprawling playground of highways, small towns, country roads, ferries, and border crossings. Every country has its own driving culture, road layout, toll systems, and scenery. What blew me away is the attention to regional detail. You can feel the difference between driving in the UK (left-hand roads!) and driving in Romania. Border crossings into countries like Russia or Turkey have long inspection gates that add immersion. It’s not just scenery — it’s a real transport experience. 🚛 Driving Mechanics The driving in ETS2 is not arcade-like at all. It’s slow, deliberate, and incredibly satisfying once you get used to it. From navigating tight intersections with a 53-foot trailer, to mastering the use of mirrors and avoiding speeding fines or collisions, there’s a rewarding learning curve. Gear shifting, speed limiters, fatigue simulation, cargo damage, and real-time deliveries make this game feel more like a logistics simulator than just a driving game. Whether you’re using a keyboard, controller, or full steering wheel setup, the responsiveness is excellent — and highly customizable. 💼 Career & Business Management You start as a contract driver, taking jobs across Europe. Over time, you can buy your own trucks, hire AI drivers, and build your own fleet across multiple garages. It’s surprisingly addictive to watch your tiny operation grow into a multinational company. You can micro-manage: Fuel efficiency Maintenance costs Which cities to expand into Driver skill progression This layer turns ETS2 into a hybrid between a simulator and a light business tycoon game. 🌧️ Atmosphere, Graphics & Sound ETS2 has had multiple graphics and lighting overhauls over the years. The current version (as of 2025) looks fantastic, especially when: Driving through dense fog in the UK Watching the sun rise behind the Alps Navigating nighttime highways lit by soft street lamps The weather effects are beautiful. Rain streaks across your windshield, and your wipers actually matter. The sound design is underrated — each engine type sounds distinct, and you’ll hear everything from the roar of your turbo to the rumble of the pavement. Mods take it further, letting you use real truck engines, traffic sounds, weather, and even Spotify integration for in-cab music. 👥 Multiplayer (TruckersMP) If you're looking for a more social experience, TruckersMP adds online multiplayer — where you can convoy with friends or strangers. While there’s no AI traffic, driving with real people adds chaos, realism, and fun. You’ll witness everything from careful professionals to reckless drivers trying to drift a 20-ton trailer. It’s hilarious and intense. There are also private servers, events, and VTC (Virtual Trucking Company) communities where players roleplay logistics companies together. 🧩 Modding Community ETS2 has one of the most active modding communities on PC. You can download: Realistic trucks (Scania, Volvo, MAN, etc.) Traffic packs New paint jobs Real company logos Entire map overhauls like ProMods Mods can completely change the feel of the game — from ultra-realistic setups to silly add-ons (like anime skin packs or meme horns). The Steam Workshop and external sites like modland.net or ets2.lt offer thousands of options. 📦 DLC & Value While ETS2's base game is already great, the DLCs add massive value: Map DLCs: Must-have for long-term players. Cabin Accessories & Tuning Packs: Fun for customizing your truck’s interior or exterior. Heavy Cargo & Special Transport: Add challenging new delivery types and road obstacles. Sales happen often, and bundle deals make it easy to slowly expand your game piece by piece. 🧠 Who Is This Game For? ✅ Love long, chill drives while listening to podcasts or music ✅ Enjoy slow-paced management and simulation games ✅ Want a realistic driving experience ✅ Prefer immersive solo experiences or casual multiplayer convoys ✅ Need a game that helps relax your brain ❌ Not for people expecting racing, fast-paced action, or instant gratification ❌ May feel repetitive if you don’t enjoy the zen of long-haul trucking ⭐ Final Verdict Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a masterpiece of quiet excellence. It’s not flashy, not loud, and not competitive — and that’s exactly why it stands out. In a gaming world filled with chaos, explosions, and stress, ETS2 offers peace, purpose, and progress — mile by mile, country by country.

After spending over 100+ hours in American Truck Simulator,I wasn’t sure if Euro Truck Simulator 2 would hook me the same way - but it totally did, just in a different vibe.ATS gives you that classic open-road,wide-America feel-big highways and massive rigs built for power. It feels like you're living that "trucker dream" through the Southwest and West Coast. The sense of scale and freedom is incredible! When I jumped into ETS2, it felt more grounded and intricate. The roads are tighter, the cities more dense, and the driving requires a bit more finesse - especially with all the roundabouts and border crossings. It’s less about long, lonely highways and more about navigating a constantly changing, richly detailed Europe. Both games offer top-tier realism and a satisfying truck sim experience, but ETS2 feels more technical and varied in scenery, while ATS leans into that wide-open, relaxed haul kind of vibe. If you’ve enjoyed one, you’ll probably love the other - they complement each other really well.
