I highly recommend giving this game a try. If you want to try it out there is a demo, but honestly this game is worth the money, and the fact it's in early access and there are more changes to come is more than enough for me. From the combat, to the collection of resources, to the night combat, this game excites me and I can see myself playing this a lot more in the future!

Game looks promising but it loses me at "Epic". Get rid of Epic Online Service requirement for multiplayer and I can recommend so far. I play games on Steam for a reason. Bought the game to support the team and to be able to leave this review. Drop Epic.

Honestly, it's just not super fun. I thought it would be after playing the demo, the hoardes every night and what not, but...you have to teleport somewhere safe every night and just chill out or setup the game so you dont have those haordes, i dunno it just wasn't fun.

Pros: Solid gameplay loop, little mix of tower defense and pogo-kiting at night. It's ambitious. Audio and video are fantastic. Although it does have potential, I am putting it down for a while, because of the issues below adding more 'un' than 'fun.' Cons: I had to use autohotkey to remap "unbindable" key functions to play with my non-WASD setup. Combat is pretty janky, AI movement is jankier. I could deal with the issues so far, but what did it for me is the UI... it needs love, you will constantly get stuck in the menus and sub-menus for your tools, at seemingly the worst times. It's just cumbersome and additional tedium that does not add value to the game. Trying to repair stuff is an absolute chore especially during night. Even the sorting and auto-population of chests... you can see the slow loop code they are using. The game needs time to cook, but I think this is gonna be great eventually.

Extremely good bones on this game for an indie dev. I'm a big survival game junkie, and this game has a lot of great systems in place already, and the potential is enormous. On top of that, the devs regularly communicate what they are working on, the timetables, and frequently release big updates. They just did a combat update that makes things pretty okay on that front. It's not super clear from the keybinding page or anywhere else that we can find how to do execution moves, or how certain moves are done. There also doesn't seem to be animation canceling which is a bit on the rough side. The enemies have a lot of variety and are interesting. The fact that we can build a boat and have a floating palace that we can fully customize is pretty awesome too. The quests have nice variety and the crafting and farming systems in place make sense and work well. There are framerate problems on the night battles, even on a Ryzen 9800x3d and RTX4080. However, the traps and walls and defense overall feel really fun. The scaling makes it scary. It's also cool that the systems in place make engaging with certain types of content completely optional and you can still advance without really questing, killing bosses, or having night battles. It feels very sandboxy but content-rich at the same time. A lot of the "jank" that I've come to expect from a small developer in an early access survival game isn't here. There's 20-40 hours of content in the game already, and there's still several large content updates to go. This is one i've been surprised to enjoy and i'm looking forward to and will revisit when big updates happen. This game could potentially be in Abiotic Factor, Grounded, and Enshrouded territory for quality if the devs keep up this pace of content releases and improvement.

The game is a lot of fun and the devs are pretty active in their discord. They have plans to release additional content, but the EA game probably can stretch you through 40 hours if you pace yourself. They still have a lot to tighten up, but I'd say keep an eye on this one. The battle system, crafting, and class systems are as familiar somehow as they are unique. The music is also pretty good - I usually turn off in game music immediately, but this music never became annoying.

I think it's pretty good - Developers have a lot of heart. Let's give them some support - Dude mortgaged his house to keep the light on. Says something.

IfSunSets is KINDA like a distilled version of The Forest where the action and tower defense aspects are at the forefront and even increased to 11 sometimes at the expense of pollish, style, and horror elements. The action in the game plays more like Dynasty Warriors and night feels like Dying Light on crack which is an amazing combination that they manage to pull off far better than I would have expected. I played solo but I assume this would be a BLAST in multiplayer (if it works). The first time you get the alert that the undead are attacking will hit you in the face like a brick if you don't know what's coming. It's a lot of fun BUT I would highly suggest the devs revisit the tutorial so as to better prepare new players for the first raid. It needs to be made clear exactly what to do before first nightfall and should guide you to build sufficient defenses and whatnot. The only other issues with the game for me were some awkward translations which didn't effect my overall enjoyment but would be a huge QOL improvement and make the game feel more pollished and professional in the long-term.

An interesting twist on "7 Days to Die". PROS: * Easy to customize game play to your liking. * Nice graphics and decently optimized for a decent gaming computer. * Gear Upgrades * Loot drop from Bosses * No Mob scaling as you level CONS: *May become repetitive to some after about 20 hours. * Some bugs and quirks - but it is early release so that's to be expected CONCLUSION: If you enjoyed the concept of 7 days to Die you may love this game. I can see some people losing interest in the game after a while to the constant grind of gathering resources. Hopefully there will be ways in the future to automate resource collection. Play the demo first and see if the game is for you. I personally really enjoy it so far.
