As a huge fan of Conan Exiles, Scum, & 7 days to die I thought this game looked appealing and am glad I gave it a try. I really enjoyed playing it. It surprisingly has a lot of content and does many things really well. Character customization is pretty limited but overall the graphics are pretty cool. You seem to get rewarded for exploring off the beaten path by way of discovering small treasures and such. You can play pretty much anyway you want, including turning off the Hordes at night although I have found its way more beneficial to find a way to survive them due to the XP and Cthugha Stones you receive. If you enjoy single player adventure, crafting & survival games I definitely recommend this game.

This game is so much better and well structured than most pointless survival games. This is a very well designed RPG with crafting, survival, defense elements. Each area is beautifully designed, the dungeons are incredible, and I can’t wait for version 1.0 to be released. Thanks to Devs for the amazing work!

This survival crafting base building game is quite different than the usual "open world" , what I like : - the world is big but not too big that it becomes a walking simulator like most games - I can fast travel as I like throughout the whole place, as long as it has its default tele point or I put bed on it - it doesn't cost time to move around fast travel nodes. - day length is long enough to do whatever or prepare traps for the night waves of enemies. Even if it's not enough I can skip night of the dead by paying cheap tribute and enemies wont spawn. It's also not good to keep skipping them since it has reward and lots of exp - materials have their fixed spawn points that spawn daily, so after playing long enough I will know every nook and cranny where to get most of the stuffs I need to advance. - there is upgrading stuffs to +1 +2 +3 etc, that's rare in survival game, and it feels like mmo. - area is level graded like mmo too by putting enemies at specific level. - despite having enemy waves every night, I can still play at my own pace and never get overpowered by the waves because I level up faster than them and I read they stop leveling at lv 100, I play already at day 17 and reach lv 41, and enemies are still lv 30 ish. Traps are also quite powerful, even at that level I still use wooden and stone traps and can ward them off just fine. - the game has a great sense of progression, a huge skill tree with lots of branches, there is fairy which has level, workbenches that need upgrades, recipes, blueprints and quests. - the farming, animal husbandry, cooking have good mechanics and many different items/animals/recipes - some blueprints need to be gained via farming , animal husbandry and cooking - good item economy (item gathering and item sinking), I can never get too abundant, but I also dont feel too lacking as long as I am not too lazy to farm it. What I don't like : - None so far except for some interface or hotkey used in it, like open chest using F, if I accidently pressing F it will pick up all (imo it should be changed to longpress), it's useful for picking up loots but when opening my own chest and accidently pressing it can be annoying. Just minor but it's there. -edit- At this point, these are mainly what caused me to change my review to not recommended. - After playing for like 40h-ish, I think I'm kinda bored with the game, it's the same thing everyday, it's almost like a list and I kinda lose interest with the game, my daily activity is just : 1. kill crabs for ctugha stones 2. kill trader at desert for lots of loots for monies and 3 kinds of metal bars 3. pet chicken 4. tend to farm 5. farm whatever I need whether it's iron , gold, or whatever else , etc and suddenly I've spent half a day. - The sense of progression is kinda like not there anymore, I can make the best weapon in the game as long as I know where it is, just by diving down into water (there is a guide on youtube that pinpoint the location) and pick up the blueprint and that's IT. (WEIRD, why is it designed like that ??) - I haven't even killed any boss, and I dont know what bosses will drop, but I am kinda not interested anymore. - I can skip a few tiers of weapons and just go to the best ones after COPPER. - the same with armors, once I know what's the best one is , I can just skip other lower tiers and aim at the best. So the game kinda fails to tier its progress in order, what should be locked behind to what , what level requirements, etc. - leveling is too fast thx to horde night. Imo horde night shouldn't be there, it's repetitive and tedious and wasting day's length. - After knowing the pattern of the game, it's not that interesting anymore. Imo progression should be locked behind bosses, and beating bosses should be balanced after a certain progression and stop getting stronger before that point, but the game wants to have a horde night that boost levels and everything crumbles, character getting too strong and there isn't any point to play the game anymore. At least that's what I feel and I lose interest. The thing is when I was still copper, I have wandered around freely getting mats randomly visiting places, by the time I upgrade my weapon workbenches, I suddenly have every mats for maxing my weapon workbench to max tier 6 from copper tier. The game is too loose and no locking progression behind something difficult.

have to use the stupid epic games store bullshit. i shouldn't have to log in to that garbage to play this when it is already linked to steam.

I love the game so far, but I have 1 single major complaint about the game, and that is the zombies on horde night. To elaborate, if you build in a cave and line the path with traps, the zombies seem to not spawn if you build to large of a radius from where you are. Zombies need to be set to spawn at the same rate across the entire map, regardless of the radius away from the player. Set the zombies to spawn in the same ratio to the closest active spawn nodes nearest the player, and eliminate the fact that if there is a large radius of buildings that fewer zombies spawn. I WANT MORE ZOMBIES. Also please fix pathing. The developer needs to use 7 Days to die as an example for spawns and potentially for pathing. There needs to be a constant intensity on horde night, and traps need to be damaged along with the base. If I build a base with a choke point to combat the threat of a massive horde of zombies and only a dozen zombies spawn instead of 500 or 1000 then I feel completely defeated and I feel as if all of my effort was for nothing, essentially pointless. I will give this game 5 stars when this is fixed, but until then this game will receive 2 stars. You cannot have such an integral part of your game concept, this broken, and expect a good rating. Make the zombies spawn baby, spawn baby.

There has been a lot of random survival games from unknown developers hitting the market in an early access state over the last 2 or 3 years, there's been a survival game bandwagon and a lot of indie developers jumped on it. Most of them have been clunky, light on content, and frankly, sub par games with underwhelming gameplay loops. I fully expected IfSunSets to be another half ass effort to cash in on that market. Well.. It has blown my expectations out of the water!! Its an incredibly fun and enjoyable game, its also challenging enough to keep me engrossed but not too much to be frustrating, way more biome and boss fight variation than i expected from a game at its price point and stage in development. Graphics and gameplay mechanics are also good. I'm 45 hours in and still have plenty to do. I was also pleasantly surprised with the scope of the games progression in terms of skill tree, abilities, craft-able items and building tiers etc. This Game is a hidden Gem and deserves way more attention than it gets as its frankly superior to most of the higher profile releases recently. I would 100% say its worth picking up if you even have a passing interest in the genre. Its not without its criticisms though, for example :- if you press F while in a chest (the general use key in the game) the chest empties into your inventory, This is incredibly frustrating and the default controls definitely need this patching out as it happens too often to be dismissed. Progression can feel a little unbalanced at times as its not clear which area meets your current level and ability scale. Tutorial and some in game prompts/instructions could be a little clearer, for example, took me way longer than it should have to figure out the 'fairy' mechanics and abilities. certain elements of the game are very unfinished, like the boats, but this isn't obvious until you persue them. The single background musical score just doesn't feel like it fits the game, and lack of variation makes it grow tedious. Overall, the above negatives will hopefully be addressed as development continues. This game is well worth anyone's money in my opinion, considering the deluge of survival games prevalent on steam at the moment, this one definitely sits head and shoulders above the average level of quality of the others and i will watch its development with great interest. Keep up the good work!
