Great game by a great evolving developer, definitely worth your while for the price alone

It sucks. The map is way too big and open, every location looks the same so it's really easy to get lost. Remembering where you have been is also way too hard.

I didn't play long, but I really enjoyed the beautiful environment and the pleasant music. The game is exactly what it claims to be. If you're a fan of walking sims it's an in expensive way to escape the dreary winter for a few hours.

Alright. **Hike Valley** is done and dusted. This is the second game I've played in the *Hike* walking simulator series, **Hike Isle** being the first. This entry was far more enjoyable in my opinion. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2997103581 Where *Hike Isle* could be counter intuitive and too wide open for me to personally allow myself to give in to the tedium of finding all the locations on a map where everything more or less looked the same geographically, *Hike Valley* mediated this by being a lot more linear and eliminating the need to traipse too far off the trail to find everything, and even when you do have to leave the trail, the map design encourages you to get back on track without getting lost. I haven't looked to see which came first, but Valley seems like the developers evolution from Isle. It's just a more cogent experience in my opinion. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2997103545 Graphically, **Hike Valley** is a very pretty game. While I'd say there isn't necessarily a lot of variation in the environment, what's there is visually pleasing. A lot of soft tones with good lighting and comfortable color palette. There are some different assets used to denote special (achievement) locations, such as buildings, firepits, and so on. There was also some interesting prints on some of the rocks, which I assume has some meaning to the developer. The audio is basically two tracks. Guitar pieces that I assume were actually played on a keyboard, but who knows. While pleasing, they do start to wear on you after a while. If I'm not mistaken, they're shared with *Hike Isle*, which means if you've played both, you've probably heard the same two tracks on repeat for two to three hours lol. Anyway, there's not really much else to the game other than to note that you do need to visit all eleven achievement locations in one playthrough in order to complete the game. It was Steam Deck compatible with no tweaks necessary other than to force Proton using the dev tools in order to open the game and one instance in the beginning where it explains the k/m controls and asks you to hit 'H' to close said instructions (Deck keyboard is brought up with 'Steam + X'). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2997103514 For under or around a buck (it's regularly 74 cents during sales), I see no reason not to give it a go. **Hike Valley** is a nice, casual way to spend an hour or two. Hike Valley is a walking sim with 11 points of interest to find and an exit point to locate. It is a chill experience of following paths through the woods and around the lake. Some places require a bit of 'bush-whacking' to access. The landscape is beautiful and the instrumental sound track adds to the sense of a peaceful trek. There are no objects to interact with and nothing to carry around. You just walk and discover. You can either use the keyboard and mouse (walk/run/turn) or the controller. To help the traveler along, an objective list is provided to track the locations that you've discovered. A word of warning. The game has no save and completionists will need to find all points of interest and exit the game in a single session. This is not a big stretch, as your hike is not apt to take more than a couple of hours (at most). However, I would have liked to see a warning when exiting prior to completion. I made the mistake of logging off in the middle and was mildly annoyed when I came back to a 'new game.' I should know better... I recommend this to those who like a pure walking sim and are looking for a couple of hours of respite.
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
This is the fourth of five games released by this developer in under 3 months. This game in particular was released ONE WEEK (!?) after their previous one. That should give you some idea about the quality. In this game, you walk around a forest looking for 10 different landmarks. ...That's it. There are no interactions, no gameplay, no narration, no story, nothing. This game suffers from a bug that their previous games did not. As you walk around, tons of annoying bright spots flash in and out all over the screen for single frames. Here is an example. It appears to be a lighting bug caused by small holes between leaves on the trees, and small imperfections between polygon seams in the rocks. It's extremely annoying and obvious, giving me the impression that the developer didn't even try their own game before releasing it, because I cannot imagine being okay with releasing it in this state. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE EPILEPSY because this is the most epilepsy-triggering thing I've seen since Pokemon. As I was walking down the path looking for the landmarks, I suddenly ran into an impassible invisible wall in the middle of the path. I turned around and walked along the path in the other direction for a while, and after a few minutes the same thing happened in a different spot on the path. Okay? If you don't want us walking past the edge of the map, put an obstacle there or something, not an invisible wall. The music that loops in the background is the same few (public domain?) tracks that the developer puts into all of their games. Overall the only nice thing I have to say about this game is that it looks pretty. Aside from that, there's not much to do or see here.
