i would like the level order to be random instead of static makes it kinda boring. The set order makes all the runs feel the same and you can kind of plan around it. game is somewhat too easy I beat it within the first few hours then just messed around on the harder modes. Weapons do not seem balanced there are some weapons that feel way worse than others.

played through the demo after seeing a streamer i like try it out and my thought was originally that despite me not being super good at soulslike game mechanics i like it and would want to play it! now that i've bought the full thing i'm like, was i gaslit. am i going insane. why is it that it feels like the game doesn't want to be played and i can't get through a room. i keep getting walked into walls and even when i dodge i'm just stuck there. parry window is insane and horrible. got a headache. thanks

Things I liked: * The ps1-inspired graphics are nostalgic and pretty low demand, without looking bad. * I like the different themes of the environments, even if they are fairly predictable. * Runs don't take too long. Things I'm meh on: * All of the bosses except the first one have some unique gimmick or mechanic that makes them a little more than you might expect. However, after you fight them once, the surprise is gone and it becomes a chore to fight them again. Things I disliked: * The game lacks so much content. It only has about 8 enemies not counting bosses, the rooms across areas are largely the same with a different coat of paint, and many weapons share the same moveset and only differ a bit in reach, speed, damage. After a few runs, you'll have seen everything the game basically has. * The combat is extremely simple. Your moveset is like Dark Souls if you stripped away any of the complexity around damage types, status effects, roll speed based on equip weight, etc. This wouldn't be so bad, except enemies are also exceedingly simple; each one only has 2-4 moves, and they are all pretty well telegraphed. This combined with extremely simple map design where there's very little environmental danger, and it feels like a paint-by-number version of a FromSoft masterpiece painting. * There are about 8 different environments, and they have some surface differences, but are largely just squares connected to each other with each room containing one or two enemies. there's rarely any verticality and rooms are simple. There's only one map type with any secrets, there is only one npc (the merchant) with no lines, and the areas, enemies, and random objects in them, are all very basic and predictable. * The level up system and gear unlock system is taken directly from Dead Cells, with basically no alterations. I think this would have been more forgivable if the rest of the game had more to it to distract from it, or if the developer added their own unique twist. But that hasn't happened. * There are 3 difficulty levels. The first one is far too easy, the second is probably about right, and the 3rd sounds like an absolute chore. I think the core idea here is attractive; I really do want a great souls-like rogue-like experience. But this game lacks so much of what makes those games great: - The combination of tight combat and complexity of systems layered on top (status effects, damage types, weapon durability, buffs, equipment weight, single-hand vs two-hand vs dual wield, ranged options, items, spells, etc.) - interesting, unexpected environments to get lost in and fight in - weirdness...especially with bosses and enemies, but also just in general. What's great about fromsoft games is they always have some npcs, enemies, interactions, etc. that are just flat out strange. It makes them more memorable. This game's just so...basic. There's good bones here, but it's a glass of water that's trying to convince you it's a lake. It just needs more everything.

Look, is it the most in-depth and varied roguelike I've ever played? Of course not. Will it provide a solid 15-20 hours of entertainment that ultimately make you better at Dark Souls? Absolutely

It's fun even though it could have more variety in build combos and enemies. The gameplay itself is fun and fast enough to keep you engaged. Recommended for soul fans for sure.

I like the concept, I was actually developing a similar idea for a game, but I was trying to combine Sekiro style combat with Slay the Spire decision making mechanics. Scope was too big for to solo. I've very sympathetic to the genre though, so I have to give this a thumbs up. I beat it on my first run, being very familiar with the genre, and it does seem to have some additional difficulty settings. Things I have to give props for: - Some unique ideas in the boss encounters - Really faithful to DS1 mechanics, albeit no charged heavy attack - Love the PS1 graphics Things that can use a bit of improvement: - More enemy variety - Enemies can also be a bit more thematic to the biomes they're in - I like the level up mechanic but have no idea what's going on with the different categories (greed, rage, something else) I don't know if this was a solo developer, but overall it's a really solid, well rounded, well made package. I encountered no bugs and everything worked as expected.
