Pretty underrated game. Has some RNG nonsense and brightness could be improved, but good quality all the same.

The light mechanic durin' Dream 1 turned me off the game. If it was a straight up story about a kid and his killer toy then fine but of course they add a bit of nonsense (light mechanic) to the gameplay. I'm mid thumb to this one.

I have to start with stating, "Not my kind of game" Try it yourself and see if you like it.
The Good:
-Pretty game Graphically
-Great audio quality
-Good story
The Bad:
-*Monotonous*
-Repetitive
-Keybindings are not my style
-Disdain motion blur (I understand why the Dev kept it as it contributes to the atmosphere)
-Audio cues and quick time events can be a little much (repetitive)
I would consider it a game that is tedious. Time limited puzzles with a tight window to complete the challenge, (memorize the timings and paths) do it over and over until you complete. I would say if you like to practice speed running, finding the most efficient route, this game is for you, never stop running, no need for walking! I made it to level 3 part 2, and saw what it would take to memorize the pattern for completion of that part of the game. Looked like it would take about an hour to prefect the run. Decided not to proceed with the game, and went for the refund. Not my kind of game, but don't let that stop you from trying it to see for yourself.

Finally got round to live streaming! I had a lot of fun with this one. It has unique moments. Certain parts of each dream had it's own difficulty. My favourite was Grandma's House & last part of St Anthony's even though both took me goodness how many attempts.
I am glad to see Into the darkness! I'll be keeping an eye on that one too. You have my full support! Here is my playthrough

It's a good game and all that, I enjoyed it for the most part and the puzzles were "ok" I guess.
Night 1's decent, everything's understandable and pretty simple to understand on what you're supposed to do, though for a first mission I feel that where I found the cheese was a bit of an awkward spot, as it was never really mentioned you could walk up areas like that prior.
Night 2 was fun, though the drowning part seemed a bit "yikes" as there's no room for failure (despite it being a simple colour code puzzle). The game still managed to fail me despite me completing the puzzle, as the water fills the room quite quickly for the space in the room.
Night 3 I actually despised, the concepts simple, burn the fuel in the fireplace, close the blinds on the other entity. Though seeing as you spend quite a lot of time doing both of those, you never really get much time to look for fuels in different areas, and by the time you find something you run out of time to get to the papers/wood in the fireplace, let alone get the key to get to the attic.
Night 4 was borderline tedious. Starts off with a pretty decent idea, Find out where the squirrel is by listening to the doors and scare off the smaller ones, but inside the building is where I decided I'm keeping the "No" for this game. Multiple small enemies coming from different areas and if a single one touches the middle you lose. Not only that but you have to press the light to make sure Chester doesn't get in, when there's no indication that tells you that you can press the door again, and the speed in which you'd have to do this together just makes it boring. Then there's the outside part where you can get 1 shot by chester at spawn, and you're also able to get grabbed by the smaller ones, and cornered over and over.
Night 5's beginning returns with the smaller chesters, except now you have to keep an eye on those, and a computer screen, and build 3 toys, and find all the keys at the exact same time and if the tiny chesters or the computer goes off you have a total of what feels like 5-6 seconds to respond, so you may aswell give up once you hear that they've touched it.
I'm trying to enjoy the game so far, from that point, I'm sure I'll update this review.

Really great lil horror experience, reminded me a lot of among the sleep and a lil bit fnaf. The mechanics are very simple but the game is actually more challenging than I expected, which helps keep you on edge. Visually very impressive, runs very smoothly, and my playthrough was entirely bug free. For sure worth the price of admission! I'll probably go back through to finish off the hidden toys I missed, and I'll look forward to future projects from this dev.

Aaaah, I have been waiting for this! Daniel George is a dear friend of mine, an independent horror games developer of the sunny California I first knew when I played the predecessor of this game, i.e., the first Chester game. As I moved my first steps into the first version of that little title (that, FYI, has been updated multiple times), I clearly felt that it had been assembled with limited resources and experience by a person that, although outstandingly talented and passionate... let's say did not completely know what he was doing at the time! But that inexperienced person grew very fast. He listened to feedback with a completely open mind, he learned, he took the brave life decision to fully concentrate on game developing, and now here he is, publishing the successor of Chester. What I am seeing now goes far beyond my initial expectations. Really, let's forget Daniel is a friend of mine and look at this game objectively. Chester: Into The Light is no common indie title, it can easily aspire to greatness. I saw huge leaps forward in practically every single aspect of game developing. The graphics and the visuals are spectacular. The sound design is flawless. The level design is always on spot. And above all that, what truly made my mouth widely open up was the variety of the gameplay. Every single chapter, every single one of them, comes with new challenges that must be faced with new mechanics. I cannot stress enough the importance of this. There is no repetition here. No recycled mechanics. There is always something new that keeps the game fresh and interesting. You are kept glued to the screen until the very end, with no pauses. This particular feature, that was pretty normal back in the days when games were still good, is practically non-existent nowadays, when repetition seems to be mandatory. I repeat, this game is much more ambbitious than it may seem at a first glance, and could easily achieve a huge success. But be aware: this game is designed to be tough, and is heavily based on trial and error. If you are not ok with that, than you won't like it. It is a matter of taste, really, so think well before giving it a try. That said, I have just two major complaints, that I'll explain below:
- the volume of the voice over is really too low, at least in comparison with the volume of all other sound effects. I enourmously appreciated the inclusion of a proper plot, but... unfortunately, due to this issue, I couldn't hear a single word! Due to health issues I cannot wear headphones, so, really, all I could hear was a confused mess
- sometimes the difficulty is honestly artificial. Many deaths are honestly not deserved by the player due to unarguably unbalanced design choices. For example,
in the mini-chesters section of chapter 4, why on Earth can't we get past the row of cups on the table???? The challenge is hard enough as it is without this unexplicable limitation! Another example: in many challenges Chester randomly teleports around, and we have absolutely no clue about where he is going to appear next, so if we are in the wrong place at the wrong time, simply by chance, well... instant death out of nowhere!
These are the only flaws that come to my mind as of now. To conclude, I am extremely happy to see that my friend has grown so much, and, let me say, I am very proud that, in a very very very small percentage, I am responsible for this growth process ;)
Cheers guys!

Main Review:
In a time where every horror game is a rushed, incomplete money grab with 7 different parts to suck out every penny from player, this game is a gem. The game is complete, it tells an intriguing story, as well as a relatable one depending on the person, and I have not experienced a single bug. The game played smoothly, and to be honest really scared me at times. Each level is fresh with a different objective and feel, and game play stays super exciting throughout. On top of that, the achievements give a nice feeling of accomplishment (especially the secret one lol). Lastly, I just want to mention that this game is beautiful too. Not super important to everyone, but I personally appreciated it. Overall, loved the game, 10/10.
Disclaimer:
I do want to say that the third level is very hard. For those of you who can't seem to beat it, just know that I found a full proof strategy that works every single time to beat it. It takes a bit to figure out, but trust me, with a little determination, the level is absolutely doable.
