A buggy mess, but a fine game once you use a patch.

While this game is great, it's kinda inconsistent.
Levels 1-5 are phenomenal
Levels 6-7 are pretty bad, aside from the Shoggoth
Level 8 is Fantastic
Level 9 is pretty good, but it has some annoying bits
Levels 10-11 are meh
The ending is really good

a truly underrated piece of work buried alive in the steam store by modern sludge, this is just what the average Lovecraft fan is looking for. reading about insmouth in the books was so interesting for years, and i truly despise the new call of cthulhu decription with a passion. but i truly do believe this game does that town and its damn residence dearly. the 1920s guns, the dark grime ascetic with a classic early 2000's cool guy main character, the unique damage and body portion healing system, this game has elements i wish most modern games hadn't forgotten about. if youre looking for a good resident evil style puzzle shooter this is perfect for you. just make sure not to go mad.
remember stranger, innsmouth doesn't take kindly outsiders.
The most authentic Call of Cthulhu game
“Who knows the end? What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise. Loathsomeness waits and dreams in the deep, and decay spreads over the tottering cities of men.”
Before buying this game
The game have a lot of tech issues and bugs. [strike] You can literally go crazy trying to fix them [/strike]
What steps did i take to solve:
1.Used DCoTE Unofficial Patch v1.7(note that you will need to get the original retail exe. file for it to work properly).
2.Checked all boxes in bug fixes in the patcher.
3.Used Double time for the last level escape sequence. (use godmode if you still can't complete the sequence).
4.Checked always show extended end movie box in the patcher.
The review
If you have read any of the H.P. Lovecraft's novels, you will find yourself a bit more immersed by playing this title.
The game is not player friendly and does not tell you what you should do to progress, no markers, no objective lists, etc.
Also be ready for a lot of stealth stages in the first 3 to 4 hours of the game, after that the pace takes a swing and it becomes more adventure shooter based.
Some of the mechanics are pretty wonky and clunky, but aside from that, this game consists of everything Call of Cthulhu title should have: interesting story, gloomy atmosphere, well written dialogues, detective elements, mystery, horror, insanity, thriller, puzzles, stealth elements.
Overall:
This forgotten classic probably one of the best psychological horror games of all time.

Another buggy mess. Crashes, weird screen glitches, broken overlay, play the windows sound for hitting too many keys every time I pressed a movement key, jittery screen, and so much more!
