A middling entry in the RE franchise. I give it a Thumbs Up, but a small one.
It exists in that weird period between RE5 and RE6 where Capcom was unsure on where to take the series. This game largely plays similarly to RE5, but more of an emphasis on classic RE: find keys to open doors and get from A to B.
It unfortunately suffers from the bizarre choice to make the game episodic. Yeah... this has not aged well at all. If anything, this game would have greatly benefited from being just Jill on the ship. No Parker and no other scenarios. Just JIll exploring around on this large ship, because the design of the ship itself is quite Resident Evil-y.
In fact, there's a mission in the game's side mode, Raid Mode, that really should have been what the main campaign was: Ghost Ship has you trek through majority of the ship and fight increasingly difficult enemies as you progress.
Instead, the main campaign will interrupt your current gameplay flow by throwing in different episodes with characters in different areas that you honestly don't give a crap about. It's kind of annoying. You'll be playing as Jill going through the ship and just having a good time exploring, but Oh No - we need to know the lore on Terragrigia and what happened to Parker and Jessica on the day it fell. We also apparently deeply needed to know the lore on what Chris and Jessica were up to during all this while exploring a bland snowy tundra. These side segments play just as well as I am describing them - it's easy to tell that they were developed after the ship was as they just feel so tacked on.
When you do play as Jill, the game is mostly fun... as long as you aren't fighting a lot of enemies. This game's big bad BOW is the Oozes. Basically, imagine if you took the Regenerators from RE4 and made them more goofy. There's a wide variety of what these Oozes will come in: some just shamble at ya, some will shoot stuff at you, some have really long claws and will try to rip you up, some explode, some have a shield and sword and act like zombie knights.
It's interesting to see what they did with the idea of the Oozes, but fighting them ranges from easy-peasy to extremely frustrating.
Constantly, you'll be shot at by something off screen, and you'll be like "Where the hell did that come from??? Oh. That dude way over there."
And the knight ones can be quite a threat when you destroy one of its parts.
Destroy its torso and you got a walking electric tentacle spamming slaps at you.
Destroy its legs and now you got this crawling lunging sword coming at you.
Cool ideas, but boy does it get frustrating to deal with especially in Raid Mode where the enemies get different modifiers. Some get super speed. Some get a big buff to their physical attack power. Some get super tanky and take forever to kill. Etc.
Raid Mode itself was a good idea, but Jesus is it grindy as hell. I don't think it's actually possible to complete Raid Mode without using co-op at some point. Maybe you can, but damn, you will be grinding a metric ass ton. Interestingly enough, completing the Ghost Ship level with a Trinity Bonus (no damage taken, all enemies killed, and be at the appropriate level) gives you some of the best weapon parts in the game - the problem is - you definitely need some of that gear to complete Ghost Ship. It's a weird circle of dependencies. I do not envy the person who completed Ghost Ship without any of that gear as that must have been one hell of a slog to play through.
I actually prefer the 3DS version of this game's Raid Mode as it was way more straight-forward. I don't know why they felt the need to make it so MMO-y in this version.
So, Revelations as a whole is decent, but it has its quirky rough spots. I very tacitly recommend it if you are just looking for something to scratch an RE itch or if you want to play a grindy loot based third-person-shooter in Raid Mode. It has its fun moments - especially when you get to explore the ship, but the lows are deep. If you can put up with, give it a play.

A decent game overall, but it suffers a bit from being originally developed for the 3DS, having a lower budget that its main series counterparts. I recommended it over RE6, as it is easier to follow the plot, and it is provides a more consistent experience overall. Despite this, RE5 provides a better horror-action experience in my opinion.

You know what’s worse than being stranded in the middle of the ocean? Being stranded in the middle of the ocean with zombies. So this is a spin off/ important titles in the games. It’s gets confusing what’s cannon when the make games for handheld system. Looking at you Kingdom Hearts. Anyways for being a 3Ds game being ported to PC was weird experience. The game was deigned for 3DS controls so the can feel wacky at times with its control scheme ported to keyboard or Xbox controller. The map it’s self is really small since of the smaller game file it was for, although for a Resident Evil game it still works. The story goes that Chris has been kidnapped and it’s up to Jill to go save him. However it was a trap for her she must fight for her life to get off the cruise ship of horror. It had good atmosphere and it is a truly scary place to be trapped with by monsters. It worth a play through, but there is no co op for the story which is a bummer . RE game be fun co op games. Is it my favorite? No. It got a couple of hiccups here and there but still a spooky ride. If I was stuck on a boat with these monsters I might just sink the ship. 6.5/10

3ds game that doesn't feel like one, good bio campaign specially at inferno difficulty, but the real game is the raid mode. Being on the spectrum is required to enjoy it, the 5 people that still play it are all japanese so this is extremely niche japan autism cock and ball grinding torture. I have played quite a few greedy gacha games and all of them are a lot more forgiving with the drops.
The dogshit clunky dodge system is the closest thing to voice training I have ever seen in a game and I wouldn't change it for nothing, you either get it kinda fast with little to no practice or it's some esoteric skill that a mere mortal cannot learn in a lifetime and you complain about it being the most bullshit thing ever.
CAPCOM I beg you, make an entire raid game instead of the slop like resistance or umbrella corps, add more maps, weapons, enemies, parts, skills, proper online play, events, special stages like the ghost ship, characters, even worse grinding (if that's even possible) and this beautiful dodge system that will age the game in 15 years at launch, I wouldn't play anything else for the rest of my life.

Resident Evil Revelations fails to deliver a satisfying experience, feeling more like a chore than a compelling survival horror game. The gameplay lacks excitement, with dull and unintuitive enemy design that makes encounters feel uninspired. The constant need to scan environments for items quickly becomes tedious rather than engaging, and the puzzles offer little challenge or enjoyment. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is the horrendous user interface, which is clunky and poorly designed. Overall, too many elements feel off, making this entry a disappointing misstep for the franchise.

Overall Score: 8.5/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐️⭐️
Pros: ✅ Classic survival horror vibes ✅ Atmospheric and tense setting ✅ Engaging story ✅ Solid gameplay and gunplay ✅ Raid Mode is fun and addictive
Cons: ❌ Some backtracking issues ❌ Occasional pacing problems ❌ Controls feel clunky at times
Review Breakdown
1. Gameplay - 8.5/10 🎮
"Resident Evil: Revelations" brings back the tense survival horror elements of classic RE games while blending in modern action mechanics. The game is structured like an episodic TV series, which helps keep the suspense high. You’ll explore creepy, claustrophobic environments, manage limited ammo, and take on grotesque bio-organic weapons (B.O.Ws).
✅ A strong mix of horror and action
✅ Tense, atmospheric combat with limited resources
✅ Raid Mode is an addictive co-op experience
❌ Some sections feel repetitive with too much backtracking
2. Story & Atmosphere - 9/10 🧩
Set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Revelations follows Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they investigate a derelict cruise ship, the Queen Zenobia. The setting is a standout feature—dark, eerie hallways reminiscent of the Spencer Mansion make for an excellent horror atmosphere.
✅ Well-paced, intriguing storyline
✅ Strong survival horror elements bring back old-school RE vibes
✅ Memorable set pieces and enemy encounters
❌ Some side characters feel underdeveloped
3. Graphics & Sound - 8/10 🎵
Originally designed for the 3DS, the HD versions received a visual overhaul. While it’s not as polished as later RE games, the lighting and environmental design are effective at creating tension. The soundtrack and sound design amplify the horror—creepy noises, eerie silence, and monster roars all add to the immersion.
✅ Great atmosphere with improved HD visuals
✅ Strong use of lighting and sound for tension
❌ Character animations can feel stiff at times
4. Combat & Controls - 8/10 🔫
The over-the-shoulder combat works well, similar to Resident Evil 4/5, but movement can feel a bit clunky at times. The addition of scanning mechanics (Genesis Scanner) to find hidden items adds a layer of strategy but isn’t always fun to use repeatedly.
✅ Satisfying gunplay with tense, limited ammo mechanics
✅ Enemy designs are creepy and engaging
❌ Movement and aiming can feel sluggish
5. Multiplayer & Raid Mode - 9/10 👥
One of Revelations’ best features is Raid Mode, which turns the game into a fast-paced, action-packed experience with co-op options. It offers tons of replayability with different weapons, difficulty levels, and characters to unlock.
✅ Raid Mode is incredibly fun and addictive
✅ Multiplayer co-op extends replay value
❌ Main campaign is strictly single-player
Final Verdict: 8.5/10 - A Fantastic Blend of Horror & Action
"Resident Evil: Revelations" successfully blends old-school survival horror with modern action, making it a must-play for Resident Evil fans. The eerie ship setting, tense atmosphere, and engaging story make it stand out, while Raid Mode adds hours of replayability. However, some pacing issues, backtracking, and slightly clunky controls keep it from reaching perfection.
🔹 Recommended for: Resident Evil fans, survival horror lovers, players who enjoy co-op modes
🔹 Not for: Players who dislike slower-paced horror games or prefer pure action
Would I recommend Resident Evil: Revelations? Yes—especially if you love classic RE tension with a modern twist! 🧟♂️
