DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A POLISHED EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!! Trench Tales is an amazing and intriguing concept that I WILL absolutely be playing once its fully released. That being said this game is in a very unpolished state, so expect plenty of bugs and subpar performance (even with a NASA PC). I highly recommend you go and check this game out for yourself and tell the developer about any bugs you might find (You can always play for a little bit and refund it)

Going to break my cardinal rule of "don't grade Indie games on a curve just because they're indie". The truth is you should absolutely not buy this game if you are looking to get your money's worth today - it's a tech demo if the tech itself was half finished. You should buy Trench Tales if you want to support the foundations of a promising future project at a reduced price, however. I've been optimistically following this game for a while and was really disappointed when the reviews came out for early access launch confirming the game was a buggy mess. Normally solo dev projects are already a negative for me and if they launch in a poor state, I'm out, but I had such high hopes initially that I continued to follow the game news. What I saw was very encouraging: the developer has been pushing out updates near daily, constantly improving the state of the game. So when i saw it for 25% off in the Steam Summer sale, i decided to check how far it's come. The unfortunate answer is that it is still buggy from the jump, and mechanics not very well explained, but the foundations look excellent. The atmosphere, visuals, movement, and gunplay are all very good. Trench Tales nails the 3rd person dark WWII aesthetic in a way that I'm not sure I've seen before. The game just "feels" right; something even AAA games frequently whiff on for me. While it certainly has a ways to go on the technical side, I would venture that in a year's time, the game will be in a perfectly playable state and ready to add to its excellent foundations.

Extremely early on in development but has a nice World War-ish setting and is a soulslike. That's my only positive for the time being as the game has a lot of polishing to go through. If you do not want to support very early development, I'd wait quite a few months so the dev can dial in some of the aspects.

I dont think ive ever stopped playing a game just to run with excitement to leave a review so quickly. The setting of this game is flat out breath taking. The WW1-ish setting, atmosphere, equipment ect are down right perfect. Ive seen in other reviews theyve mentioned poor performance, but Im running 80+ fps. I havent gotten hung up on anything yet so im assuming those issues must have been addressed. Theres only been 2 things ive noticed, 1 some of the water cuts off with a hard edge, and 2 the enemies foot steps can still be heard for about 5 seconds after theyve died. Which has freaked my out lol. All in all, this is already a top favorite game to me even being early access. Do NOT hesitate to try this out, its an experience and im gonna follow this like a hawk.

Despite this game being very unfinished and unpolished, I would definitely say I really enjoy the concept design and atmosphere this game. To anyone who is on the fence I would definitely say get this game time! It is deserves to see success!!!

Combat and UI is just terrible. Clear that they want the game to look better than it actually plays. Tutorial is very basic and found that some sections and text of the prompts were mixed up or duplicated. Options don't save at all meaning you are stuck with the audio and graphics you first launch with. melee combat is pointless, swings with the shovel rarely hit even when they are clearly making contact with enemies. Abilities hardly work or don't work as they should. Inventory UI is confusing and nothing is explained at all.

While I hope one day this game will be good... Right now it's not. For now it's barely playable, there is preatty much no gamplay loop, invisible walls between trees that you should easily be able to pass, kick looks pathetic, shotgun sounds like some laser gun, and there is of course the price. Anyone who thinks this is worth playing right now for this price and with this amount of content is delusional. Right now I don't find any reason to play and buy this beyond it looking cool and having WWI vibes. Hopefully one day it will be good but right now it trully deserves mixed reviews.

The game feels really clunky. It definitely needs more time in the oven, but I love the idea of it. As of this moment? I can't recommend it. I really hope the developers stick with it. But as of this time, I'm getting my money back.

I will follow this game still because I'm excited to see it work. But this is barely a beta test at this point. The game is slow and sluggish. It's not worth it at the moment but I'm hoping it becomes worth it eventually.

Extremely jank, some major issues, but it's a dude's passion project with some amazing asthetic. Can't wait to see where it goes and what it becomes. This won't be for everyone, but if you endorse indie devs, I'd support this guy and his dream. Updates are near daily, even if they're minor fixes and tweaks.
