Worst purchase of my life. Never thought i would actually hate a Devil May Cry game. The story is super basic and bad. The characters are so cliche that it felt like im watching a bad TV show instead of a cutscene. Colorcoded enemies like it was 2005 again. There is not a single good thing about this game.If you have EVER played a Devil May Cry game you most likely wont like this "thing". If it wasnt for a challenge to 100% this piece of shit i would never have even gone past the first 30 minutes before refunding it

The game itself is pretty darn neat. Great visuals. Decent game-play. I haven't finished it yet but here are the "negatives" so far are: - This could totally be labelled as a "personal problem" but the story is a total 'Devil May Cry' fan-fiction that took liberties. So if you're a purist this could irk you. - Automatic lock-on with no target indicator rather than the manual lock-on we're use to in all other "Devil May Cry" titles. There are times I go to do particular moves on a certain enemy but I'm unknowingly targeting the wrong enemy. - There are different weapons but no different styles. I can understand why this game was divisive on release. But it definitely doesn't deserve hate.

It was great back then and it still is an awesome game for the deck nowadays.

First time trying out this style of game, and I was amazed. Its an incredible experience. As someone who plays gacha games all day, this is definitely harder than what I'm used to, but still enjoyable.

One of the best hack-and-slash games of the 2010s. Amazing gameplay, incredible visuals, great soundtrack, a fresh look of how the mainstay series conflict between Dante and Virgil came about, and despite the initial hate and unjustified negative comparisons upon its release, the game still remains a fine example of having numerous combat and movement improvements over the original.

I have enjoyed playing this game minus the issue with certain combos being unachievable on keyboard, however, I have enjoyed this game. Completely understandable that others would dismiss it due to it being a reboot of the Devil May Cry series with a more edgy teen take. Yet I enjoy the chemistry between the characters and the worldbuilding, I haven't played the other Devil May Cry games yet but do plan to, so my opinion of this game is bias admitly, but that won't stop me. To conclude my rant above, I would recommended this game, I'd recommended giving it a chance.

This was my introduction to DmC. The gameplay on Steam Deck is FANTASTIC and it's unlike anything I've experienced before. Also, I found the story & characters fun and interesting. I went in knowing nothing about the franchise. After completing the game, I went onto YouTube to watch some let's plays as I usually do. You know, to get a different perspective. I was VERY surprised to find that this game gets quite a bit of hate from DmC fans, pointing to the fact that this is "different", "out of style". I was shocked. In my opinion, this is one of the best action games I've ever played. I agree that the story could be better, but the gameplay is a solid 10/10 for me.

Despite what people are saying, this is a fantastic game. The combat is top notch, very fluid and responsive. The level design and the overall art direction are also great in my opinion. You don’t see creativity like that everywhere. Although, I can agree that the story and characters are it’s shortfall. What they did as a base is great but the narative lacks. Is the game good? Hell yes! Do Dante and Vergil live up to the originals? Heavens no! I liked playing as Vergil here too, feels like Minato Namikaze of sorts with the teleporting daggers. Overall, I wish they made a sequel in this universe. It deserves one!

🩸 DmC: Devil May Cry – A Rebellion Reforged 🩸 ⭐ Review by a longtime Devil May Cry fan ⭐ 🎮 Playtime: 400+ hours (multiple playthroughs, all difficulties) 🔁 Completed: Human to Dante Must Die + Vergil's Downfall DLC 👿💔 “Reboots are always controversial – but this one? This one tore the fanbase in half like a demon under Ebony & Ivory.” 💔👿 Let me say this upfront: I'm a HUGE fan of the classic DMC series. I grew up with the gothic style of DMC1, the relentless combat of DMC3, and the stylish chaos of DMC4. So when Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry dropped in 2013, I was ready to hate it. But guess what? I didn’t. I played it. I replayed it. And then I replayed it again. And somewhere along the line... I learned to love it. 💥🖤 🎭 STORY: A REBELLION AGAINST CONTROL This version of Dante isn’t the wisecracking pizza-gobbling half-demon rockstar from the old days. He’s more raw. More angry. More… punk. 🧑‍🎤 The world of DmC is a twisted dystopia where demons control humanity through media, finance, and sugary drinks 🍷📺💰 (Yes, I’m looking at you, Virility). It’s satire, it’s edgy, and sometimes it tries a little too hard—but it WORKS. Dante starts out as a trash-talking orphan with no direction and ends up awakening to his heritage as the son of Sparda and Eva, discovering his humanity and learning compassion. It’s not Shakespeare—but it’s a damn good ride. And yes, Vergil is here too, rocking a fedora and preaching cold hard "order" like he's auditioning for a Jordan Peterson video. 🧢📚 Their final clash in the reboot is 💯 chef’s kiss—raw, emotional, and soaked in betrayal. 🧠 Story Score: 8/10 ⚔️ COMBAT: A STYLISH EVOLUTION Okay, let’s talk meat and potatoes: the combat. Does it reach the sublime heights of DMC3 or DMC5? Not quite. But is it fluid, tight, and addictive as hell? Absolutely. 🔥 You wield: Rebellion (standard sword) Arbiter (demonic axe with slow, massive hits) Osiris (angelic scythe—fast and crowd-clearing) Eryx (demonic fists—HULK SMASH) Aquila (angelic throwing blades—aka "death frisbees" 🥏) Shotguns, pistols, grapples, launchers, and of course... the twin pistols Ebony & Ivory 🔫🔫 Combat is combo-heavy and style-focused, encouraging experimentation with your entire arsenal. And those angel/demon pull mechanics? Game changers. They turn Dante into a mid-air ballet of death, flying between enemies like a crimson tornado. 🌪️🩸 Yes, it lacks the style switch system of later games, but the weapon wheel is responsive, and the controls are buttery smooth. Add the SFX-heavy feedback, the slow-mo dodge counter, and the crunch of every hit? You FEEL the power. 💪🎧 🕹️ Combat Score: 8.5/10 🌌 LEVEL DESIGN & VISUALS: A NIGHTMARE YOU WANT TO LIVE IN Limbo is the star here. Environments shift, morph, and try to kill you in real time. Floors collapse. Walls scream. Billboards lie. It’s like fighting your way through a demon’s fever dream. 🌆🔮 Some stages are genuinely jaw-dropping: The News Network level, with propaganda turning against you 📺 The upside-down world of Virility The twisted realm of The Raptor where Dante is literally hated on by a demonic Alex Jones clone 😈🎙️ And yes, the final showdown with Vergil atop the fractured skyline? Cinematic GOLD. 💻 Art Direction Score: 9/10 🎨 Style is different from old DMC, yes—but it has its own gritty beauty. 🎧 SOUND DESIGN & MUSIC: HEADBANGING IN HELL You may hate nu-metal. But damn... Combichrist and Noisia NAILED the tone. 🤘 Every battle theme pumps adrenaline directly into your veins. Boss themes are violent. Ambient tracks are haunting. Dante’s new voice? Tim Phillips brings raw emotion, anger, and a surprising vulnerability. Yes, the “F*** YOU” exchange with the Succubus is dumb. But other moments? Surprisingly well-acted. 🎤 🎵 Music Score: 8/10 🎙️ Voice Acting Score: 7.5/10 🤖 AI & ENEMIES: THE BAD AND THE BRUTAL The enemy roster is decent, if not massive. Demons have color-coded weaknesses (blue = angel, red = demon), so you have to use your full arsenal. Some hate this—I loved it. It adds tactical depth and stops you from spamming one weapon. ⚖️🛠️ Boss fights? Mixed bag. Hunter: Intro boss, sets the tone Succubus: Gross but creative Bob Barbas: PURE GOLD. Best level. Best boss. "F*CK YOU, DANTE" hits hard 😂 Mundus: Meh... anticlimactic. Vergil fight: Actually amazing. 🧟 Enemy Design Score: 7.5/10 👾 Boss Score: 8/10 🧩 VERGIL’S DOWNFALL DLC: UNDERAPPRECIATED GEM You get to play as Vergil, with his own move set, cutscenes, and tragic descent into madness. He’s not as polished as in DMC4SE or DMC5, but still a solid, katana-slicing experience. Yamato feels snappy. Teleports are satisfying. And that final twist? OOF. DLC Score: 7.5/10 🥷 Vergil Simp Level: OVER 9000 💙 👎 CONS: WHAT DIDN’T WORK? Dante’s early personality is too try-hard edgy. The “F-bomb” overload feels like it’s trying to impress 13-year-olds. Final boss is weak compared to series standards. No style switch mechanic. Some fans still hate it for not being “DMC enough”. 👑 FINAL VERDICT: IT’S NOT YOUR DAD’S DMC—BUT IT’S A DAMN GOOD ONE 📝 If you're a fan of pure gameplay, dark satire, and stylish violence, give this reboot a real shot. It’s not perfect. It’s not classic Dante. But it’s bold, bloody, and stylish in its own rebellious way. 🎯💥 Even now, in 2025, this game holds up remarkably well. 🩸 Would Sparda approve? Maybe not. 😎 Would this Dante flip him off and do it anyway? Absolutely. 🎯 Final Score: 8.5/10 🔥 “Stylish as Hell” / “Smoking Slightly Sexy Style” 🔥 ❤️ Loved by those who gave it a chance 🖤 Hated by those stuck in the past 🗨️ “Not in a million years would I’ve thought I’d love this Dante. But here we are. Me, Rebellion, and a whole lot of demons to slay.” 🗡️ 🖤 Thanks for reading, demon slayers. 👺 See you in Limbo. 💬 Feel free to comment your own rating below.
