This game is widely considered as a contender for the best ARPG of all time. The most impact in storytelling in this game for me is the survivors you meet on the map, as well as the inner conflicts in the camps and between factions. They do a good job of building a world where you can sense the distrust between factions, and you can honestly just understand why they hate and kill each other when you see how their values clash. As well as having long histories of wars.
I might be reading a bit too far into it, but the insinuated politics and history in this game is distinctly human. The conflicts are a parallell to very real historic and current conflicts, especially between religions, and some references to the old witchhunting thing we did in Europe. When someone who is different lives among a group in the game, you can sense the distrust and often they say it outright, and some times even asks you to kill the different person. There are backstabbings, liars, robbers, scammers, fathers, mothers, sons, lovers, family, one-sided love, obsession, greed, infidelity, shame, loss.
As far as i can tell the game does a great job at avoiding especially two topics, misogyny and racism. It just isn't there. There are some thematic parallells, but not anything direct, so you'd have to look for it in order to find something in these topics.
In terms of mechanics the game plays great, and i love to theory craft my own builds. Most of them fail in some sense, but i learn. There are so many slots for gear to augment your character, and that gear also have many possibilities to be augmented.
Coop is LOVELY, there are SO many ways to buff eachother and help eachother. Something i miss from many other ARPGs. If you want you can really theory craft redicelous synergies, and there isn't really any coop guides that i know about online.
The main story never really got to me. It's a big corruption of some sort i guess, and it never feels like i'm making much of an impact really. Compared to the predecessor titan quest the main story is weak. In titan quest you are doing the bidding of the gods, it's all very grand. In grim dawn you align yourself with lesser factions and their lesser gods that may or may not exist, and the factions description and understanding of their gods may or may not be accurate. And the motivation of the faction leader may or may not be in the best interest of the faction.
It's all very small compared to killing titans and saving the "real" gods of Greece and old Northern mythology in Titan quest. But then again, i never really paid much attention to the main story in grim dawn, so maybe i missed something and i'm wrong.
Best (Diablo like) Action RPG game of all time.
The vanilla game with DLC provides a ton of content for thousands of hours, thanks to regular updates and a bunch of mechanics. Also the game has a large community that has created giant mods, like a complete port of Diablo 2 to the Grim Dawn engine or literally seasons with their own rules like in Path of Exile

This is a great single player game hearkens back to the first Diablo game with a fun and easy to understand gameplay loop. The hardest aspect comes with learning where to put your skill points when you level up, how to balance two classes, and which area to wear to give you a max resistance so you don't get killed by the mobs of enemies, heroes (minibosses), and bosses.
The weakest point of Grim Dawn is co-op. I bought this game to play multiplayer with my friends who bough it separately without dlc. I did not understand when buying this game that if you own the dlc it is very difficult/almost impossible to play with someone that doesn't have it. You can disable the dlc and put in the launch options /nogdx1 /nogdx2, but even that still doesn't guarantee that you will be able to access multiplayer. For that reason I am giving it a negative review.

An ARPG that's all about build variety and replayability. Not the prettiest or hardest game, but it's just fun. I liked it.
Bad completion. Just so grindy.

For me it's a comfort game I always return to.
It's a beginners friendly ARPG with a lot of replayability.
It iis a great game for relaxation, but also good for the die hard min-maxers.

Played a pirated version for about 20 hours and decided to get the definitive edition on sale.
The game seemed a bit overwhelming at first with all the characters, skills, devotion and items but after a couple hours it clicked, and now I wan't to discover more of its world.
Pros:
- Great atmosphere
- Great depth in character creation
- A interesting story with some good voice acting, although not all of it is voiced, so you'll have to read quite a bit.
- Great modding scene. Smash N Grab mod basically speeds up the leveling process, grants bigger inventory space, rare item chance increase and enemies scale with your level, which makes building characters a lot quicker and less grindy.
- Can be played mostly with mouse, depending on the build, which is relaxing to me
Cons:
- Can be overwhelming at first
- Sorting through the inventory and deciding on what to keep can be tedious
