Eh... its alright as far as rpg maker games goes. It's just a simple story with a few key locations to go to. I have 6 hours but you can likely finish it a little sooner then that since i went exploring around immediately when i had access to the ship, and over explored as i kept wondering if there was more to find.
Location-wise there really is just the initial castle and a random town selling upgraded gear, the shops in those locations also baits you a bit thinking that you'll get more party members since there is heavy armour that you can buy but no one that can equip it. The rest of the locations are dungeons or dungeon-like. There are some areas where you think might be a secret with 1 tile that looks off from the ones around it, but no, no secrets here sadly, everything you can access is shown as is.
As for how dungeon's go... eh. there is a few floors in some of them, but you'll always encounter a giant room with a generated maze filled with enemies and chests spotted around. There is a bit of a pattern when it comes to chest colors and their contents but it sometimes breaks off at random. Like some red chests will often have gold but will sometimes have general items in them for example.
There are no random encounters, just roaming enemies that initiate a fight when you touch them, they'll also charge after you if you get within line of sight, which makes you think there might be some benefit to skip encounters, but honestly i don't recommend it. These enemies don't respawn so you have a limited amount of them to get exp and gold off of, even if you leave the dungeon and come back they are still gone so you might as well get the experience while you're there.
The Encounters themselves are just re-skins of one another. Basically you go to a trial dungeon and find a generic mob that themes to the element and a sylph that often spams aoes. You see this in every trial and even the final dungeon. Honestly it was almost refreshing to go back to the story progressions to find undead lol. Buffing is also weird in that you can apply any buff twice, they use the buff up indicator as the first stack and the buff down indicator is the 2nd stack, i thought there was some weird overflow going on but no, that's just how it shows when you have 2 stacks of a particular buff lol.
Bosses are alright, mostly hp sponges as you just wail on them for turns at a time, occasionally reapplying buffs. All of them are susceptible to ailments so you can just silence them and stack armour to take barely anything.
All in all and TLDR... it's just alright. Protagonists are neat, Antagonists are kind of generic ngl but the heroes have to fight through something to get to the dragon i guess. Not particularly hard if you gain all the experience around the world, just annoying. It allowed me to burn some time so thumbs up from me.
