My Lovey-Dovey Demon is a fantastic visual novel by ebi-hime. Elisabeth is a super-cute demon lass, (inadvertently) summoned from hell by Taiki; (with some help from sister Nene). The story is brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable - 13 year old Nene adds a delightful twist to the humour too. The artwork and music are excellent and I recommend My Lovey-Dovey Demon as a wonderful read!

While My Lovey-Dovey Demon is competently produced for an indie visual novel,—with its nice-looking visuals and limited-yet-excellent soundtrack—it's uninteresting story leaves something to be desired. Speaking of, the story follows the protagonist Taiki, a university student, on summer break with his three younger siblings—Chiharu, Nene, and Reza—at their grandparents house in the Japanese countryside. At the conclusion of a far-too-long hide-and-seek game, Taiki finds Nene hiding in his grandpa's off-limits study, which is full of occult tomes and paraphernalia. While trying to dissuade Nene from messing up the study, Taiki suddenly feels compelled to chant a spell from one of those tomes, accidentally summoning Elisabeth, the titular Lovey-Dovey Demon. From there, Elisabeth disproves Taiki and siblings' preconceptions of what a demon should be like with her innocent and kind-hearted disposition, and the grandparents (who were once friends with Elisabeth's mother) make her an honorary member of the family. And, for the limited time she can manifest herself in the human world, she, Taiki, and family go on a number of lighthearted slice-of-life adventures. The story hits all the usual suspects for slice-of-life scenes—the shopping trip, the picnic, the beach day—and characters—Chiharu is tsun, Nene is chuuni, Reza is the helpless younger sibling, Elisabeth is a bit of an airhead. While these scenes and characters are often cliché (I'd expect every slice-of-life story to have at least a few of them) and thus boring, they're not inherently dull. But, in order to make those common scenes interesting, the characters themselves have to have good chemistry and interact within those scenes in an interesting, natural manner. My Lovey-Dovey Demon, though, fails to hit that mark. As a result, most of the story until the climax and denouement (which I did actually somewhat enjoy, seeing
Taiki and Elisabeth finally develop their relationship, and Taiki devotedly study to re-summon her
) was lackluster, aside from the few genuinely funny moments in which Nene drops her chuuni persona. Also, the short but well-budgeted soundtrack kept me coming back when nothing else would. There are the usual lighthearted romps for comedic moments, which I fortunately found less annoying—and in fact, not annoying at all—compared to songs that fulfilled a similar purpose in other visual novels. But, there was also a slow, ominously droning and swelling track that, in a good way, reminded me of YU-NO, as well as some nice, relaxing tunes to accompany slower moments in the story. Overall, while I enjoyed My Lovey-Dovey Demon's presentation, and the final quarter of it story, I can't say that it was worth the trudge through the boring, derivative slice-of-life scenes that led up to it. 5/10
