The game doesn't offer much for such a big cost. It works if you want to kill time I guess, but I suggest to wait for a discount, or even better - go download Dogz 5 for free

I will start right off the bat by saying, as gorgeous as this game is and as much as it gives warm cozy feelings or can hit hard with nostalgia vibes if you're someone who liked nintendo dogs, petz, or other similar games - It's genuinely best to catch on sale for a multitude of reasons including it frequently glitches, can easily be fully completed including achievements in under 24 hours, has a limited amount of dog breeds, and primarily is just a walking simulator with dogs. I will say the concept of developing an island into the perfect pup paradise was a refreshing take, and was surprisingly relaxing to do.
Overall rating: 5-6 out of 10
\_ Game play time - There's roughly about 15-20 hours worth of gameplay simply just completing the main storyline, the quests, and getting all the achievements. You can get more play time if you try to get every color variant of dog and/or all the toys or clothes.
{Warning for general spoilers}
Pros:
* It's a fairly open world game, which allows the human to move around pretty freely.
* It's primarily a nintendo dogs/foopets/petz meets walking simulator with dogs type game.
* When encountering obstacles that your dog must conquer, there are really cute and fun little mini-games with a gorgeous pixelated style.
* The loading screen between areas has helpful as well as fun facts about dogs in general and tips/tricks for the game.
* With the exception of a handful of aspects, a lot of the tutorial is fairly comprehensive and encompassing.
* Beautiful atmosphere and graphics, which leads to a very cozy feel! Literally every action is animated from feeding, to walks, to fetch, to exploring, to training, etc. (Yes, you also get to see the pup beans up close!)
* Lots of adorable outfits to dress your pups up in, with several choices immediately available; additionally more choices are unlocked as you progress or can be found throughout the world as you explore. Additionally, in-game currency can be found frequently throughout the world, as well as from doing jobs (or sending your pups to complete jobs) or completing quests.
* (pro or con depending on how you view it) - unlike nintendo dogs where new pups are available pretty steadily with little work involved to unlock them, new pups in this game have to be befriended while out exploring the world.
* Does not appear to be a limit to how many dogs you can befriend.
Cons:
* Game was released in 2023, last update in the steam log was 2023 - so realistically the current bugs and glitches will probably not be fixed.
* The audio is extremely glitchy, it frequently cuts in and out consistently. This includes both the music and sound effects, which honestly sucks because there are many times in which the music would be genuinely beautiful or relaxing if it didn't clip in and out so badly or frequently.
* Despite being controller compatible, you will need to use a keyboard to type - it will not connect to a controller for keyboard input.
* A lot of the game is pretty straightforward, like most pet games in which it primarily consists of feeding, walking, bathing, and training your dogs while you explore the world.
* Some aspects of the tutorial utilize pictures with no instructions to explain different aspects of the game (i.e. squirrel obedience training or frisbee tournament), additionally the tutorial is long and unskippable.
* While a lot of the graphics are decent or beautiful, several graphics seem sub-par such as some fur textures or patterns on various dogs (i.e.
lab, corgi - specifically the texture doesn't look good but the pattern looks decent, chocolate dachshund which is the same color as the dirt/mud
, etc)
* There are TONS of glitches which happen extremely frequently, from just funny ones such as when pups pick up the food bowls instead of carrying it in their mouth the bowl frequently floats drastically high above them and follows behind them (almost like their being chased by a haunted food bowl), to the dogs themselves frequently glitching out or just horribly clipping in general. Frequently dogs will freeze especially during games of fetch or frisbee, in which the game becomes completely unresponsive and you have to wait several minutes before the dogs unfreeze (this glitch also happens while in the frisbee tournament, in which the timer will still actively count down while your dog is frozen and unresponsive). Some breeds seem to glitch or clip worse than others (such as the
lab
), which frequently clips especially while it's playing with other dogs. There is also a glitch in which your dog randomly walks progressively further away from you (frequently running into things or basically running off screen), will not respond to a whistle or pet, etc. There is also a game breaking glitch where you look down at your dog while they look away, however the entire game becomes unresponsive and requires force closing in order to fix it.
* Can only have 3 dogs in the yard at a time (it isn't explained in the game that you can select your top 3 favorites via hearting them, otherwise they will be cycled in and out by the most recently taken on a walk).
* (pro or con depending on your viewpoint) - Pups do use the bathroom in the game randomly (which like everything else is animated), however it's only depicted by a squat and dribble sound (there is no depiction of actual urine or feces, and you do not need to clean it up either). {Personally, I feel like this feature is pointless and unnecessary.}
* In order to progress, your dog needs to frequently conquer obstacles which require mini-games to complete. However, if you want to return to a previous area you will need to replay the same mini-games (this can become tedious extremely quickly).
* Can't save manually at all, the only save feature is an auto save (although it does frequently auto save)
* There is no catalog/archive for items, clothing, or the various color variants of dogs.
* There are only 9 breeds; the "140" color variants appear to just be the other breeds colors put on the various models. The 9 breeds include:
Husky, Lab, Dachshund, Shiba Inu, Bulldog, Chihuahua, Dalmatian, Pug, & Corgi.
