This remake was not only borderline unplayable, i spent 50 minutes wrangling sony and then it crashed 3 times trying to open (not to mention terrible controls), it also made a series of minor plot changes that added up to huge changes in the theme and overall plot. terrible experience. i hate leaving negative reviews but damn. like within the first 20 minutes in and i couldnt keep playing

As this is a remake/remaster of the original Until Dawn, I will cover this game as a standalone and also in relation to the original. As a standalone game, this is probably the best narrative choice game I've ever played, along with being a great horror game in general. It's the type of experience you have where, afterwards, you have to wiki everything about the world, the characters, other choices you could've made, etc. The story itself, (like the original) is extremely cleverly written and executed, extremely subtle and extremely complex. I played the whole thing in one go (the full story took about 7 hours for me to complete) as I simply couldn't put it down until its conclusion. I actually lost track of how long I'd been playing at one point, and I didn't care at all! I was going to keep playing! The decisions you make feel like they have a lot of weight, and decisions can be very sudden. For example, in my playthrough (SPOILER WARNING):
I had to make a very quick decision which got one of the characters, Jess, killed near to the end of the game. After having created that outcome, I felt the stakes and the weight of that loss even though it was only a game. It had an emotional effect on me, which is exactly bang on what you want in a branching narrative, choice-based game.
I absolutely recommend this game in either version. As a remaster, this game has itself branched off from the original and gone in a pretty different direction in regards to many things. Often with a remaster, you'd expect that the graphics are improved, maybe some of the shadows or character models have been polished more, etc. You do get that in this version of the game, however it's also gone in a slightly different creative direction in regards to tone, setting, lighting, soundtrack and camera angles that quite a few of the players of the original game may or may not approve of. The disagreement is based on the identity of the original game versus the remake and how all those different parts create different tones. I wouldn't say I like either version better than the other based on what I've seen, as it's more based on what you prefer in all those aspects. A few of the original creative decisions have been removed in the remake whereas new other ones have been added into it. If you were only to play this version, as I did, you wouldn't fault this game at all, I'd just say you can see where the criticism the remaster has gotten from fans of the original is coming from once you actually study some of the differences between the two versions. As a standalone game, this is absolutely worth getting a copy of. As a remaster, opinions may vary, both from new fans and old, but I'd still recommend it. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Very good game! Although some aspects of the old version compared to the remake were better, it's still fun to play and gives you the chills!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Experience – Even Better With a Friend! I'm currently in Chapter 5 of Until Dawn and have been playing it with my caretaker and best friend Jessica. We've been recording our gameplay, and it’s been an absolute blast! The tension, choices, and storytelling have kept us glued to the screen—and we even watched the Until Dawn movie together, which made the experience even more memorable. One thing we wish the game had is a proper co-op or controller-pass mode like The Quarry or The Casting of Frank Stone. Taking turns manually works, but official support would make this kind of shared experience even better. Still, this is easily one of the best narrative horror games I’ve played. Highly recommended, especially if you can enjoy it with someone close!

I will change my review from negative to positive if this catastrophic bug is ever fixed - unfortunately, we ran into an infinite loading screen at a fairly widely reported spot in the game, resulting in me needing to force close the game and lose all of our progress. You can see people discussing this infinite loading screen in threads all around the internet, even in several reviews here. While the community has identified a fix when you boot the game, it shouldn’t be on the community to fix the game, and that doesn’t bring back your lost progress. The part of the game I was able to play was enjoyable, and I hope the devs will either patch or revert it to a more playable state soon.

keep your hopes down. you might not even be able to play the game at all. i've wished for a PC port for Until Dawn for so long so i could finally play it myself after having watched countless playthroughs since it first came out. i love this game. i got a steam gift card for my birthday. yippee i can finally play until dawn!!!! yeah i can't even start it. my pc meets the requirements. but i (and a lot of other people, you'll find in the discussion threads here + elsewhere online) run into the issue of the game booting up to a black screen for a few seconds, and then instantly closing. i don't even get a title screen, man. i've tried different solutions for hours. genuinely started crying. i really DON'T want to refund this game, but i fear i might have to because it is quite literally unplayable (unless i find a miracle that makes it work) and they're no longer updating it. so. 10/10 for most disappointing end to a birthday. listen to the other reviews. way too many issues for $60. i gave it a chance because i've wanted to play this game for everrrrr. sigh

Super intense and scary a** game. I have never been so immersed into a game anything like this. This game is even better with an audience watching. Worth every bit of the $60 I spent on this!

Until Dawn is absolutely peak. I played it back in 2015 and seeing it remastered is absolutely fantastic. My favorite horror game by far. I’m not a super big fan of horror but this game is absolutely phenomenal!

It required me to link my PlayStation account "only reason I bought this game was because I read they took that away but sadly they didn't"

Absolute stuttering mess of a game, capped at 60fps but good luck keeping that up. It will drop to 6 if there's more than one character on screen. After 6 months or more since release there's no justification for this. Still the classic until dawn though. Good characters, amazing story. I'm dusting off my ps4.
