This game is really good. some genuine noodle scratchers when it comes to the riddles. lots of hidden things to collect and reminds me of The Hobbit for the PS2 but less on combat more on stealth and puzzle solving. If you enjoy reading this is definitely for you. lots of lore to collect and read, new scents and recipes to find and NPCS to discover. Discovered a shrine dedicated to Brian Jacques, wont say much else so as not to spoil it but its hard to miss if you enjoy exploring (which this game rewards the player for, always a nice touch). I would definitely recommend this game if you are a fan of Redwall or just enjoy a nice..umm..3D narrated puzzle story adventure. I got this on the steam sale but honestly, If I wasnt so mistrusting of every single game that comes out, I would of payed the £20.99. its worth it.

Updating my review for this now im a little further into it! There are a few... what i thought were bugs that i encountered, it was me not being able to solve puzzles without a game hand holding me and highlighting things with a big red circle or flashing icon, i had to get my brain on for some of these! This game is dripping with dialogue and lore, the graphical style is actually really charming, and there is a really nice pace and sense of adventure to this game! Its just like reading a book with how non fast-paced it all feels! This is a really lovely game and the developers have clearly poured a lot of love and effort into this! There are a few rough edges such as trying to cheese your way through an area and skip a step and it looks like you can just about spam jump and make it but you hit an invisible wall, but you have to take a step back and appreciate the game for what it is and not treat it as something to be rushed. Its a story to be told, not a platformer to speed run. Also the scent feature in the game is really unique and fun! there is such a variety of different game styles in here I love it! :)

This game surprised me. It's primarily a lot of sneaking and finding different ways of misguiding enemies, rather than having direct confrontations. There hasn't been a lot of weapon use like you might expect from a game set in the Redwall world, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as you are instead kept occupied with storytelling and problem-solving. It is heavy on the dialogue and lore but you can skip it or read to your heart's content. There's many hidden rooms, collectibles, nods to the original books, and some parkour/platforming, all of which I appreciate and find they fit well in the world. I love the scent mechanic, it's very unique and helps immerse you into feeling like a real woodlander. It's one of the things that takes this game from "good" to "great," in my eyes. I also enjoyed the mechanic where you have to "convince" another character without losing too many "hearts," although it got me eaten by Captain Snow. A small gripe of mine is that the game can hold your hand at times (such as the thumbnail images of the characters' emotional faces displayed during the "convince" mechanic), but at other times it'll leave you on your own to figure out a tough riddle. That back-and-forth is a little confusing. Otherwise, the gameplay can be rather addicting. The 2D static transitory scenes added a lot of dimension to the narration, it was a great stylistic choice and the art was beautiful. The 3D character models look very natural and the atmosphere of the environments is perfect. For example, the slough with Asmodeus. It really felt like stepping into the Redwall world.

The game is... interesting. It was made with a lot of effort and love, and it shows. The voice acting is SUPER well done, and the setting is, as you'd expect, pretty expansive. There is a LOT of dialogue for characters just idling around, and the numerous bits of collectible 'lore' around the game are all hand-drawn on different kinds of parchment. The art for the characters and cutscenes are quite good, as well. The problems lay in the actual gameplay aspects. The in-game graphics are... 'good' at best, but much of the game is kind of glitchy. There's a whole 'scent' system that isn't really interesting and useful, and for some reason even after you are acknowledged to have collected every scent in the game, there are still a bunch of ??? entries in the log. I was never HUGE into Redwall but even I can catch SOME of the various cameos and such... Martin the Warrior, the snake Asmodeus... but quite a few elements of the game are never really explained and/or resolved and I'm not SURE if that's because they're part of the larger book setting, if they're intended to be brought up in later game(s), or if they're just... I dunno, dropped plot hooks? There are also a number of 'riddles' throughout the game, but even having cheated and looked the answers up, I don't think they really... work. Ultimately it's a rather linear and simple game that's probably best for, y'know, children. But it's not BAD by any means.
