Now that I have finished Dead Of Darkness I can say that it has both Dead and Darkness. They even drop the name of the game inside the game so you can point out and say "Wow, that's the name of the game!". This is a great survival horror game with decent puzzles and some cool mechanics. The story is interesting and it's all around a good time. If you are looking for some indie survival horror, give this a go. I streamed the whole game and it took me something like 11 hours or so because I am also kind of bad at games survival horror. Thank you for reading, and if you didn't read I give this game an 8/10 and I refuse to expand on that further. Get the game. The Voice acting is also really good.

Fantastic game. Well executed and satisfying Survival Horror experience, especially for the cost. Highly recommend for Survival Horror fans.

A very neat little pixelated take on the Resident Evil-esque formula. A cool story with some satisfying twists. Hope to see more from this universe.

I'll admit I was initially put off by the RPGMaker nature of this title, more how much of the games assets didn't look unique and therefore I felt the game was probably an outrageously overpriced asset jumble. I will gladly say for anyone that cares enough to read "I was grossly mistaken". That is to say, I was entirely wrong about the nature of this game and I think anyone that likes the genre this game belongs to will enjoy it thoroughly. It doesn't do anything to push any boundaries but a game with full voice acting and a clear labour of love gets bonus points for being something the devs had a lot of fun making. A good rule of thumb, if the devs had fun making it, its more likely to reach a more appreciative audience. That isn't to say the game is complain free, it plays well enough and I can't say that I suffered any setbacks or crashes while playing. The guns sound nice though melee is underbaked, as it probably would be given the engine the game used. If I have any major gripes it'd be that I noticed a lot of American English, words spelt incorrectly by anyone that learned English the UK way. Also the sections you need to use the lamp, those are awful. The game deserves its very positive score and frankly I am glad I took the dive.

At first i thought this could be a fun experience cause of the style, and i love horror even if pixel graphics like this are usually not my cup of tea.And i must say, they did an amazing job with this. It played really well, had really solid voice acting for the most part, the story went off the rails in ways i didn't expect(thought it would just be a zombie game) and it was way longer then i thought it would be.so if you are looking at this and don't mind the artstyle,i would say,GO FOR IT!!

If you like the fixed-camera era of Resident Evil, you're gonna love Dead of Darkness. Remember Spencer Mansion and RPD? Most of DoD's dungeons follow the same non-linear, puzzle-focused layout, complete with limited inventory. This is a must-play if you're into that kind of exploration, but you need to really like it, because DoD has a lot more than just "big mansion + cave + underground lab." A playthrough of DoD is significantly longer than a lot of other indie surv horrors out right now, and the number of locations might get tiring if you're not a fan of the formula to begin with. (If you're wondering about my play time: my in-game time in my first playthrough was ~9 hours, when I put the game in sleep mode on Steam Deck I think it counted as keeping the game on all night) The pixel style is consistent and works well; the protagonist's model might look a bit odd at some angles but you'll be focusing more on the environment and the enemies, which all have unique and terrifying designs. I especially love the boss designs, even if the strategy for handling most enemies and bosses is the same. The game's combat is simple; you only have a few types of weapons (gun and bigger gun) and most enemies have no strategy except for "shoot until dead." Unfortunately, no enemies respawn or get back up once they're down, so the game loses tension once you're cleared all the monsters out of the dungeon and you're just running around with all the keys in your inventory. Higher difficulties keep the tension in check, since you can't expect to kill everything you come across, but the low running speed is a bother whether you're running from danger or trying to transport keys from one edge of a building to the other. The game is overall very fun. Every dungeon is unique, and despite the pixel style, every location looks different and has a different vibe, so exploring is one of the game's strongest suits. Revisiting the first main dungeon is one of the best parts of the game, and really nails the horror vibes due to stronger enemies, darker music, and the lack of light. On the other hand, the only part of the game that suffers is the underground Cistern section, or any section that involves a certain multi-legged beast. These sections are much more frustrating than scary when you realize the main monster in these sections can OHKO you, thus requiring you to navigate the exact same maze with the exact same traps all over again, while still equipped with a low run speed. It's a total slog and not a section I enjoy playing through, but at least it's only a small portion of the game. (Also, I managed to kill the creature, take its item, and open a secret room, but there was nothing to interact with. Is that room just an easter egg, or did I miss something else?) The clues system is a unique idea that helps you to gain key items without using a ton of inventory, but it also hurts the game's replay value, since you can't ever sequence break anything unless you've interacted with all the right items first. Speaking of hurting replay value: the opening cutscenes play no matter how many times you've beaten the game, so it will take a while to get a NG+ run going, even though you can skip dialogue boxes one at a time. The game has good characters, good voice acting, and a unique story. I'm glad that there is a good ending as well, although learning that "Dead of Darkness" is more than just the title of the game was a pretty big surprise. Still, I'm blown away by the credits; this is an impressive game despite the number of people that worked on it. You should be proud for producing something this big!
