Very fun game. I am trying to complete the game all 4 save slots with 100% and am about halfway through my third playthrough!

Great Lego game. If you've enjoyed other Lego games and like Lord of the Rings you will enjoy this one too.

I absolutely love the Lord of the Rings books, movies, and now this game! I love the open-world style incorporated into a LEGO setting. I love the crafting system which allows players to gather materials and make various tools to complete tasks. I definitely recommend LEGO LotR to fans of the books, the movies, and LEGO games.

You can't go wrong with a classic Lego game. The gameplay is fun, the level design is great, and it feels authentic since they used the voice acting from the movies. I love being able to replay levels after unlocking characters with different abilities.

Summary: Great ideas and lovely details, overshadowed by jank and bugs. If you're just interested in the story, you'll probably be fine, but anything past that gets tedious.
The game captures the story nicely, the levels are well designed and some care has clearly been put into certain details. Keeping iconic voicelines and scenes from the films is a nice touch, and the opportunity to explore an open world Middle Earth was exciting.
Unfortunately, my experience was badly soured by a pile of inconveniences, mostly affecting the free play mode. If I can't activate an environment element because I don't have the right item equipped, I can't open the item selection menu to equip it because that requires holding the activation button, which immediately results in the character trying (and failing) to activate that element instead, until I walk some distance away. Trying to switch to a different character (by holding the swap button) may instead swap to the other player (potentially eliminating some platforming progress, if the AI decides to jump down). Equipping special items can be frustrating when they're randomly unequipped again later.
Compounding this, a number of bugs added to the annoyance even in story mode. Some platforming challenges feature narrow walkways, which evidently have invisible barriers to prevent falling off, but occasionally prevent me from landing on them in the first place. Several times, glitches put characters or objects beyond reach and forced me to restart levels or even the game. Sometimes, characters seem unable to hit blocks right in front of them. One particular interaction crashed my game twice and two levels broke if you played them a certain way. One achievement had technical issues that required changing display settings.
Individually, these would be minor issues, but collectively they left me with a bad taste for the second half of the game. I pushed for completion anyways, but eventually the novelty wore off and the further I got, the more irritating each occurrence of these issues became. As much as I am a LotR fan and enjoyed Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones, this one just breaks my heart. I see good intentions in many places, and I feel like the designers put a lot of love into it. I just wish it had the gameplay to match.

Solid puzzle/platformer for all ages. It's mystifying why you have to go through the story before you can select your character -- what's the point of the huge roster if you're locked into the Fellowship for the whole story? But other than that, there's a lot of fun to be had just running around and collecting everything.
I did find that the tone was completely off in some spots. Boromir gets shot with a... Banana? The voice acting actually hurts the cutesy Lego look to this game. Imagine Sean Bean acting his heart out but he's got a goofy cartoon face and a fucking banana sticking out of his chest. I know this is for kids, but it's not like they shy away from violence or death when it happens to other characters. It's just bizarre.
This game adds craftable mythril items that do a combination of silly things or practical things, including character-locked abilities. This makes the character issue even stranger. Regardless, there's a lot of content here even if you're just in it for the story. If you try to 100% it, you could probably double or even triple your time.

Really wanted to love this game. HOWEVER, unfortunately it is just WAAAAY too buggy and poorly configured. It WILL crash your computer and burn out your CPU and GPU. I know, it's just a lego game and should not be demanding but it's that bad. Cannot recommend and unfortunately I would say given the severity of the game's problems - it should be removed from STEAM.

Lego LOTR is my favorite lego game. its just a 10/10 game. However if you are trying to get all the achivements like me then getting 10,000,000,000 studs is a huge pain in the ass. Even with all the stud multipliers it just takes forever.

Underrated Lego game. Has some bugs, but is easily as good as Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga.
