Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps And Beans 2 Reviews

After the shipwreck in Africa, Bud and Terence save a village from criminals and make their way home on a raft loaded with bananas. But of course it wouldn't be a Bud and Terence adventure if everything went according to plan.

More Bud and Terence fun. Slightly more jazzed up fighting moves compared to the first one, although I found Bud significantly more useful/easier to play in a fight. Terence gets a lot of flashier 'opportunity' moves based on if he's holding certain weapons or what scenery is near him, but he lacks effectiveness in the rather large swarms of enemies you'll face. Of course, this is fairly on par with how the actors were in the movies; Bud being a near unstoppable cranky tank of a man and Terence being the soul of finesse. I will say that I like that Terence gets the ability to target his throws, but with the massive enemy swarms and interrupting attacks, they can be difficult to use with the sluggish slow locking aim. Most notable in Slaps and Beans 2 is the presence of team puzzles. These typically have Terence climbing things or being acrobatic to access switches so Bud can access elevators or punch down walls. These weren't terrible, but there were a couple of spots later in the game where it wasn't clear what needed to be accessed to move a thing. I also found the puzzles were the most likely place where glitches could happen in terms of triggers not responding, requiring a restart or the surveillance challenge in the military zone being very stingy on hit detection. All in all, some were implemented better than others, but nothing was impossible to solve. I like the voice acting done. Although not perfect, they felt like good impressions of our favorite bi-polar duo. Enemy voice work... ehh. There's a few supervisor type enemies that keep spawning enemies (I think) while shouting over and over "Arrest them, there's only two of them" regardless if the line makes any sense in that sequence or not. A simple 'get them' would have been better. Other bosses just have silly voices in general. Granted, B+T movies are never too serious, but the comedic timing feels off at times with the npcs. Generally speaking, this was a fun romp and respectful to the legendary team. The mini games are rather fun too. Can you really have a B+T game without them aggressively inhaling food? I think not. The only game I couldn't really get my head around was the pelota match. While none of the games are really hard once you know the rules, this one just plays oddly and doesn't explain itself very well. I was rather happy to see the original got a sequel and you can tell the developers have a genuine love for Bud and Terrence's slapstick brawling and delivery. It's one of those games that if anyone half assed it, it would be readily apparent, but this was a good job. Would recommend.
