TL;DR Fun to play… until you finish the main progression. Then it’s just you, the grind, and your poor overheating PC.

Overview There’s no grand epic tale here — you literally just spawn in and try not to die. You get:

16 characters
4 stages
A ridiculous pile of items to mix, match, and wonder, “What if I combine this with THAT?”
Game modes & challenges (x Stage):

5 preset difficulties
Endless mode after those 5 (for when you really want to suffer)
x2 mode that doubles everything
Custom stat multiplier: from +100% to an absurd +9,999 × 100%
Yes, you can mix these settings however you want. Example: 1st difficulty, no x2, but 5000× enemy stats… or x2 mode with +9000% stats on Endless. The possibilities range from “chill walk in the woods” to “what is wrong with me?”

Grinding: The True Story Mode Can you actually beat +999900% enemies? Yes — but only if your life motto is “patience is a virtue” and your PC enjoys being tortured. Every enemy has a small chance to drop a card:

Each card gives a tiny permanent stat boost.
It stacks forever.
Eventually, you’ll be a walking god with numbers so big they look fake.
You can disable the system… but why do that, when you can ascend into the forest’s final boss yourself?

Achievements Want 100% completion? It’s almost suspiciously easy. With a decent run or two..., you’ll unlock them all — no hundreds of hours, no “jump 1,000,000 times” nonsense.

Potential & Polish Right now, the game feels a bit unfinished — like someone handed you a cake that’s tasty but missing the frosting and decorations. But the core loop? Addictive. The systems? Full of potential. If the dev keeps working on it, “In Woods” could go from “fun little grindfest” to “legendary time sink.”

Final Thoughts “In Woods” is basically:

No story. Just vibes. Lots of trees.
You vs math.
And maybe your PC’s cooling system.
If you like endless progression, silly difficulty sliders, and testing the limits of your hardware, this one’s worth a try — especially if you want an easy 100% achievement run.

I gave the game a chance and I'm impressed, recommended! The dev is fairly active with lots of updates still coming in. Here's what I like: - Upgrades feel impactful; every level up serves a purpose - Nice graphics. Lots of little details relating to attacks, spells, status, etc - Spells and upgrades include lots of creative ideas - Not many +/- upgrades: like when +5 atk, -3 armor. They exist, but not enough to feel like every upgrade is a downgrade. - Perm upgrades aren't absurdly expensive - Enemies are intelligently designed. Nice diversity in enemy behavior after first biome - Lots of characters to choose from for playstyle diversity - Monster cards for infinite perma progress is cool for players that want ultra progression - Rounds aren't too long; they're about 20 mins each up until the finish - Support for lots of languages Here are some areas for improvement: - Controller support, while decent, is incomplete. Require mouse for some things, like viewing stats - Little bugs exist, but not game breaking, that I've discovered. Once the game made me use mouse to select an ability, then controller worked again after, and several times screen gets a transparent overlay stuck that requires pause/unpause to clear - Could use more content in general, e.g. more biomes, objectives, etc. - Would be nice to have a dodge/roll mechanic - Maybe an ultimate ability that is manually triggered, per char? Specific to whether melee/ranged is toggled when cast - Some impassable terrain on some biomes could add diversity to movement, to reduce circled kiting fatigue - It's difficult to tell when the player is damaged; would be nice to have it be more obvious, and when health is low - More diversity and scaling of specific elemental effects would be nice. Each should feel truly unique, and have creative ways of scaling Great little game!

Pretty fun, especially for the surprisingly low asking price. I can already see myself playing this off and on years down the line, particularly when I get that crusader's itch. The only bad thing, it appears there is not a necromancer class. Maybe for a future update or dlc, pretty please?
