Killing Floor - Robot Special Character Pack DLC

Following on from releasing Horzine's D. Jeffrey Tamm in an earlier DLC pack, here is one of his key creations from Horzine's Robotics Division: the Domestic Assistance Robot (DAR to its friends) (or "DARling" to Dr. Jeff, but that is another story...).

The Domestic Assistance Robot Special Character Pack for Killing Floor contains one (1) robot. It is a pretty nice robot and a nice change from most of the game's other characters, but it's also overpriced like the rest of this game's DLC. With the release of Killing Floor 2, this and most of KF1's other DLC are niche products for KF1 uberfans now.

A brand new playable character, that's great? Well, It's basically just a new skin to play with. Pretty much a simple cosmetic for extra cash. I usually just hate cosmetic DLC's like this one. They truly won't increase the overall playtime. And therefore, It's kind of pointless to have it. Sure, It makes you look a bit cooler, whatever. Unless you are rich, you really don't need this. Why did I get this? To support the developers. Killing floor has received a ton of free content. There's a lot of free events and great updates. And I think they do deserve that extra money. Yeah, cosmetics are a very lazy way to earn it. But supporting those developers is important. With that being said: I give a negative review. And why? Because I simply dislike cosmetics. I can't recommend something I didn't enjoy. As I said: I bought this DLC to support them. But that doesn't mean I have to like the DLC. There's a ton of free characters to play with. Purchasing a bonus one seems a bit boring. You really won't gain extra playtime from it. It's a way to give 'more' money to the devs. But in the end, It's just a skin. Nothing else.

DAR's a little robot which will forever stay unique and uniquely voiced, instead of eight/nine different dlc skin packs reusing the same two brit lines and of course the whole "Ash has unique female lines!" when three other skins reused it overtime. Just being fully unique isn't good enough to offset this overpriced shit TW did, get it on a sale then you'll feel loads better. Or I guess you can listen to his voice lines and decide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCk6AvqA95k Either way recommend but only on a sale and to feel truly unique (And to only understand less than half the lines).

The only good Killing Floor DLC character, for the sole reason that it has a unique voice. The phrases are all unintelligible but still entertaining and a nice change from the default.

The one and only truly unique character DLC, with beeping noises followed by an imitation or sound file trying to convey what he means to the rest of the team.

I bought this DLC in '12-'13, about 4-5 years ago as of this review. Since that time DAR has been bugged for myself and many other people and has not received a fix. See for yourself how many people are having problems: http://steamcommunity.com/app/1250/discussions/search/?q=DAR Selecting DAR (and other DLC skins) does not save, requiring the user to re-select it for every single game. I've also searched high and low while troubleshooting - Steam forum, Tripwire forum, Google, and Biggun 93's "How to fix technical problems" guide. I've also erased my /system folder, flushed the Steam config, deleted my Steam .blob files, verified game cache, and even locked my user.ini file to read-only mode. Nothing is working. Due to this and how long this has been a problem without any work or fix from Tripwire, I can not and will not recommend this DLC to anyone.

D.A.R has a really cool design and an awesome voice, however he doesn't have unquie animations, instead he moves and walks like a human and it looks off. Overall great skin!

By far one of the more unique skin DLCs in Killing floor, this pack includes its own sounds and model and has the advantage of being cheaper by default then the other skin DLCs. Although you are only getting one character from this which is overpriced like most of the DLC for KF. The other notable problem with this skin is the fact that the game will not save it as your current skin inbetween games. Meaning that if you want to play as a robot you must select it EVERY single time at the beginning of the match - otherwise you switch to a default skin if you are not quick enough. This problem has never been fixed and is extremely annoying!
