Sylvarcon 2049: A Cybersecurity Adventure Reviews

I LOVE IT !!!!!!! THE DEVELOPERS ARE AWESOME !!!!

This review is based on the initial first release, and the date Nov 23. Overall: Recommend 9/10 This is basically a Cyberpunk meets Mr. Robot. You get a classic dystopia of oppression of people, and you working to make sure it stays that way. The storytelling is like Max Payne 1 narration of a static image with nice cyberpunk drawings. That's just for the story. For actual work, you get a fullscreen Virtualbox image of Kali Linux. Hopefully it stays updated with releases. You have snapshots and to revert to initial state if something is not working as it should. You do not get a virtualbox bar when in fullscreen, only two buttons on the lower right side of the screen at all times. To complete an objective, you need to write answers to questions like in exams. The questions are on the right, hidden, so you need to click and drag to the left to expose the questions on the right. That needs improvement as not everyone may not see it and get confused as to what to do next. This happens in the MENU of the mission with hints and stuff, NOT in the KALI. Videos with brief explanation of the relevant topic is a nice addition. And hints are good, but for those not in cybersecurity/forensics will struggle to move on, so more hints and guides and help for them would be a good idea to expand in the future. The reason for one point down is music. Needs more cyberpunky but it will be improved in time. Much much more music, otherwise people will turn it off at some point in time. What else is there to say? It's a cyberpunk game with a kali linux and objectives to complete and write the answers down with easy, medium and hard difficulty. Cyber and IT folks [and students] will find it fun and engaging, basically they'll be gaming while seriously working. For those who want to mash "press E to win", look elsewhere. This is not for you. If you find linux, terminal and looking at a bunch of text in a log file seem like boring or rocket science, skip. I am glad I got this and when I have time I will play with it. Hopefully the dev stays updated with Virtualbox images from Kali with new releases because updating Kali after a very long time is gonna be a PITA.

One of the best hacking games i've seen to date. High learning curve, but using the actual Kali linux VM is great!

Great concept, but awful execution. This game needs a lot more work, it should not be released in this state.
