as i enjoy backgammon this is a forerunner to that game so i enjoy the concept. However, in this version sticks are thrown until 2 or 3 is rolled, before moves are made. If you can remember all your throws which could easily go to 5 plus then good on you, because I cannot. One rule that is in common useage is to roll then move and roll further if the prequisite number was rolled previously. I have seen one board where the numbers rolled are kept but others boards NOT!

I learned about the game of Senet in 2020 and even made a simple but elegant wooden game board with pebbles to play it with my girlfriend. Back then subconsciously I also hoped someone, someday will develop an elegant PC game based on Senet. And here we are! This is exactly what I was hoping for! Absolutely elegant, beautiful with a well thought out mechanism. If you asked me back in 2020 how would I imagine the Senet on a computer, I would have precisely described this one. Spot on, very well done!

Senet offers a captivating journey into ancient Egypt. The attention to detail shines through the recreation of actual boards found in tomb, echoing the historical charm displayed in museums. A delightful blend of nostalgia and innovation.

The classic, ancient Egyptian game, done quite well. A smart AI, plenty of boards and pieces, good atmosphere. Been trying to find music in the game (since there's a toggle for it) but can't find it so far.

The original game of life (and death). Easy to learn but satisfying in it's simplicity. Nearly every game comes down to the wire. You can be killing it the whole time and then get stomped by your opponent in the final turns. The game quality is excellent as well. Would recommend.

Gorgeous, atmospheric, intuitive. Fine rewards upon progress in the form of exquisite new boards/sets of pieces.

Great game with a sensible price. Is great looking and I'm impressed how the strategic part is included in the game (is not only pure luck) since you can plan ahead the number of steps your pawn can move. Relaxing to play when you're watching streams or tv-series. Recommended if you like puzzle games or if you're a Senet fan :), The feeling of reaching Aaru is 10/10!

If you are curious about the ancient game Senet and want to try it out, this is the version to pick up. The developer has gone out of their way to accurately recreate boards found in Egypt (such as Tutankhamun's own personal sets), the rules are clearly and concisely explained, and the game runs very smoothly. It is also worth mentioning that the AI is also quite challenging and impressive, so you typically won't feel the need to take on a human player for a competitive game. One thing worth mentioning is that the game does not have music but it really is not an issue, I typically just put a podcast or my own music on instead. If you are interested in Egyptology or board games, give this a chance.
Initial Thoughts
My initial thoughts on Senet... It's really fun! Much like the Game of Ur, it's rules make for interesting strategies and randomness mitigation. The graphics are great. Very smooth animations. I look forward to playing more Senet this weekend! Try it! Once you have the basics down, play a friend.
Would make a great mobile game
I imagine this would make a great mobile version too if the developers were up to the task. It's in Unity, so I imagine a port to iOS and Android wouldn't be too difficult. We'll see.
Tutorial
The tutorial is okay. It took a little while to figure out the rules by hovering over each square, and experimenting in the tutorial, but it's a very straightforward game.
History of Senet
I saw a video about the history of the game on Wondrium, "Board Games of the Ancient World", episode 02, "Senet: Egypt's Game of the Afterlife" and was intrigued.
Wishlist
Variant controls. I've been reviewing many different rule sets online, and there are quite a few variants out there. Some make more sense than others. It would be AWESOME to have a rules variant page where you could turn different rules on and off.
Updates
I've gotten to the third hour in the campaign. I won the last game by one roll! So close! Yikes! I highly recommend this game. I'm on the edge of my seat sometimes! Nail biting! Just made it to the fourth hour. It's definitely getting harder. Still really fun! Wow. It's definitely getting harder. Made it to the fifth hour. Opponent is definitely getting hard. Blocking is a huge part of the strategy: groups of two and three pieces together form a good wall. Five pieces together completely blocks your opponent. Yikes. It took me four tries to get through the 6th hour. Definitely getting heavily dependent on blocking. AI is tough! I am sweating bullets on how tense this is getting! Just finished the seventh hour. It really gets down to the wire. This is gripping your seat kinda action! :-)
Conclustion
This is an excellent rule set, implementation, and aesthetic.
