30 minutes of walking to a chilly classic music, and collecting woods and rosehips. Cons: No ending, the game just drops you out instead of final credits. Pretty repeatative gameplay. Move from one bonfire to another and track your hunger level to eat rosehips on time. Pros: Relaxing Cheap Conclusion: Actually, for 0.38$ it's not bad at all. Why not? P.S. Never try eating rosehips, it's hecking dangerous! P.S.S. Those bums who finally could afford a game, and wrote 2 meters-long detailed reviews "Why this game is bad." Lol. As the game is about 40 minutes, go ahead, complete it and apply for refund to buy another 0,1$ game to write another maximally serious review on it.

I read the reviews before buying this for 0.49€. It's a walking simulator with survival elements, but once you figure things out, surviving is just a time management issue. i died a couple of times before figuring things out, but it still took me just 42 minutes to play it through. It's not a well designed game, but it's not horrible either. I'm giving it Yes, since it was what I expected after reading the reviews, and I think I got my money's worth.

Yeah this game isn't all that great. However the music and atmosphere is rather relaxing, and all you do is walk and collect berries/wood the game is also not in English..Not at all worth $5

Even tho I dont speak any what I assume to be Russian, the game was quite good, a scenic walk where you need to find recourses to survive, there were some minor bugs like fences floating on top of the berry bushes but I can overlook those so over all a short but pleasent experience

There's no story in this game aside from what you read in the description. Nothing happens or progresses aside from your character trying to stay warm and full. There's no exploration or character development or anything interesting. The music is very nice, though.

While "The Cold Forest" isn't completely terrible, it's also simply not interesting enough to make it worth the asking price. You're dropped without fanfare into a frozen wilderness where you are greeted by floating instruction panels in Russian. The store page claims the game also supports English, German, French, Italian but I couldn't find a way to switch (nor is there any code to support localization). Anyway, your task is to survive the walk to the lighthouse. Apparently you're wounded so you're bleeding constantly, but somehow your health never really drops until you are either freezing or starving. To avoid freezing to death you can collect firewood and light a fire at specific points and to get food you can pick berries from bushes. As there are no instructions I had to try half of the keyboard to find the hotkey for eating is "B", as in ... well, not remotely related to "eat". The problem with all of this is that all of the required resources are way too abundant to ever get into a dire situation. Campfires aren't to spread out, firewood and berries are everywhere, and the path is completely obvious, so the game consists of walking until you need to warm up at a campfire and then some more walking. I reached the lighthouse after about 25 minutes and never even got into a pickle. Hell, there's a campfire right before the lighthouse even though it's not needed. Without the urgency the game is reduced to a quite boring 25 minute stroll. Technically it's neither here nor there. While the art style could be called "painterly" there are some glaring billboarding issues and also lots of repetition. The audio department is mostly comprised of a track of piano elevator music and some sound effects which were taken from freesound.org, mostly without adhering to the Creative Commons licene: A pile of wood - https://freesound.org/people/jorickhoofd/sounds/178740/ - BY-4.0 PickupBook1.wav - https://freesound.org/people/jomse/sounds/428666/ - BY-3.0 Ambience, Seaside Waves, Close, A.wav - https://freesound.org/people/InspectorJ/sounds/400632/ - BY-4.0 Whistling antarctic blizzard - https://freesound.org/people/stormpetrel/sounds/173096/ - BY-NC-3.0 campfire_01.wav - https://freesound.org/people/matucha/sounds/170247/ - BY-4.0 Windy Window.wav - https://freesound.org/people/Pedaling%20Prince/sounds/338952/ - BY-3.0 The "BY-NC" license doesn't allow commercial exploitation, by the way, so this is a clear copyright violation. All things considered I can't recommend "The Cold Forest". While equipped with a sound premise the execution is too boring to warrant a thumbs up from me.
