After about 107 hours, I finally beat this on Hell Difficulty and opened Endless mode.
Lots of luck involved due to the RNG, depending on what EX upgrades will be available near the end, and which kind of build you make. There's a fine balance between being too offensive (great early on but doomed near the later battles) or too defensive (where they cannot hurt you, but you cannot hurt them and time runs out).
My best run was with an advanced fighter, a basic fighter, an advanced Idol, and massive damage dealer pirate, with a lot of revive type EX abilities, plus AOE damage.
I enjoyed the game immensely and is what I start playing each day. Tried the endless mode which is interesting too. More skills (7) can be used at once instead of the normal (3), but you start with only one rookie and can purchase additional people as money allows. You can also purchase books, spells, and new people directly before the boss battle.
Good job Heartfun!
